Here is one of the rare before black turbo Buicks. Before 1984, the turbo Buick Regal had 4 barrel carburetors on their turbo engines in a draw through configuration. This means that the fuel air mixture goes from the carburetor to the inlet of turbocharger compressor, compresses and forced in the intake manifold creating great boost when the intake valve opens to let the boosted air in. I remember in the 80s I used to test drive those cars at my friends dealership. They were fun but then when I try to grand national it was wow in comparison.

I know you probably won’t agree with me but this car deserves to be properly restored. With all the OEM factory parts put back on the engine and factory OEM wheels. Do a frame off. Have your front seats re-upholstered in the factory material, color, and pattern. Either replace or have your dashboard gauge plastic trim housing wood simulation restored. Get rid of the stripes, have the entire body, hood, trunk, and doors stripped down to bare metal, all the dents removed, and a proper multi-step repaint in the OEM white paint code. You have a unique car. Might not be “highly collectible” but it’s worth restoring to OEM stock.

When I purchased the car, it was sitting on an Indian reservation being used as a storage container. The engine would not start and they gave up on it. I put it on a trailer took it to my place, Put a bunch of work in it and it runs pretty well. If it was in better shape when I bought it, it would have made a good restoration. This one will be a resto mod unless someone wants to pay me my price for it. I am willing to sell any of my cars for the right price.

I had a green buick regal landau quarter top but I didn't have a Turbo 3,8 just a standard 3.8 one . my engine burned oil and if i would fixed the engine she would of been fine

Yes, the beginning of the production turbo Buick Regal. The turbo compressor inlet mixes the fuel and air mixture from the carburetor and pushes it under boost into the intake manifold draw through carbureted turbocharging. It is a fun car, before fuel injection, just an engine, HEI distributor, turbo and carburetor. No fancy computers or fuel injection. A simple turbo car.

I do not have spare any parts. I used a 1987 Turbo Buick Garrett turbocharger, a carb spread bore conversion to go from quadrajet to holley bolt pattern. I had a friend do the welding to change direction of the compressor discharge, the external wastegate conversion, and the exhaust tubing for the different turbo housing outlet direction. It is fabrication any good exhaust shop with tube bender could do. Could do it another way too, get a universal T3/T4 turbocharger with Vband flange and have an exhaust shop weld a T3 flange to your stock exhaust turbo inlet, and fabricate the draw through manifold to fit the compressor inlet of the turbocharger. I only installed the necessary, vacuum lines, such as distributor, external wastegate, and the boost sensor indicator and some others. I don’t recall at the moment.

with draw through turbocharging, the fuel and the air mix in the compressor which cools the air before being pushed directly into the engine. The only type of intercooling technique that can work with draw through carb is a small methanol injector on the intake tube so the carb draws the methanol in to mix with fuel and air making it cooler. Another way would be a fuel cooler to cool the fuel that much more before it enters the carburetor therefore atomization of fuel and air would be much cooler. Blow through turbocharging on the other hand you can run air to air intercooler due to no fuel is in the boost until after boosted air passes through the carburetor.

Actually false the first version and model of the turbo charged Buicks was a lesabre which was the first turbo Buick in 1978 which I am a happy owner of one it’s a 1978 Buick Lasebre sport coupe v1 version of the turbocharged Buicks

1978 there was also the turbo g body Regal, it was the first year. Mine is an 80 is third year but first generation of turbo Regals. Yes the Lesabre and Rivera also had turbo versions.
