Wow this is amazing. It took six hours and it isnt even coloured or lined. I'm guessing with the additoin of those it probably takes around two entire days just to make one page. Huge respect for comic drawers.
I don't know if you even read the comments or if some one gives you feed back on what is being said, but I can't thank you enough for this. If I would have had this as a teen in 1992, maybe I would have perused my dream to create comics a little more tenaciously. Truly inspirational!
I'm 15 and work on comics is my dream work I'm working hard on that and this man is just a legend helping a whole new generation of artists since he started the world of comics owes a lot to Jim (sorry for the English I'm Spanish)
Don't give up on your dreams. I have the same dream.. and still working on to realise it. Plz don't give up.. let's motivate each other. Thanks to Jim Lee for this channel
Hello Jim Kind regards from Mexico, Monclova City Coahuila state I'm you fan since a lot years ago since your first comics for X-Men, I'm amateur cómic trace I made a few copies according at your style probably I will share some of this drawing to receive your comments ... Thanks for your work !
I still have THAT Magneto poster from the 90's that I got from my older brother in '98. You are a god amongst men, Jim. I'm happy to have to seen you work at least once in my life. Hugs from Brazil!
Yes i've always had problems drawing a panel on an A4 because it was too small but my art teacher said its normal and that i need to draw on a bigger surface
Loving this full page process, I'm an illustrator myself and I have these videos on whilst I'm working, they're hugely inspirational when it comes to narrative composition and figure dynamics.
sitting in the chair and drawing for six hours strait...real veteran artist. great work, as usual. jim, you know you can blow your nose on a page and it would sell for top dollar...powerful. thanks or all your valuable insight and teaching. cheers.
Funny how he talks about people criticizing the work of artists and writers who may not even read comics. That's exactly who DC and Marvel are trying to cater to these days, while dumping on long-time fans who just want quality. They are unfortunately also hiring untalented activists who are only there to spread a message (and "cancel" those who don't fit their narrow mold even when they agree on 99% of issues) despite a clear lack of talent. Rather than creating new, well written characters who embody what they want to communicate and doing the hard work to make them stand on their own, they only know how to appropriate or replace established characters and shame those who protest inappropriate changes to long established characters. Manga figured all this out already and have enough genres to cover every possible type of reader, while mainstream American comics seem to want to force every comic into the same obvious mold and shame those readers who have no desire for their product anymore.
I've been a big fan of your work since your days at marvel (I'm not a rarity I'm sure), and I wanted to express how awesome it is for fans like me that not only are you willing to share your artistic process with us, but more importantly you've been able to consistently make time for streaming with what must be a very busy life and work schedule. I feel like I've gotten to know you a bit since I started watching the channel; you are a gentleman and a scholar sir, thanks for all the cool tips and insight. Not only a great artist (one might say legendary), but a super nice guy with a lot of great things to share. Thank you for your vision, here's to future stories yet untold- Jack Ziebold
The most common paper used for drawing a comic is 11x17 Bristol board. The best brand is starthmore, here is a link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027AEO7Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=vzvizead-20&linkId=9c346639f6c6e5a7261c004ff98ba5dc I’m fairly certain Jim has used this paper before
I love your work! I am from El Salvador, central America. I wanted to ask you if the panels have a flow so you direct the eye of the viewer to the next panel! Thanks!
I wish you were zoomed in just a little bit more. Also, I see no reason for the extra frame speed. Better the video be 1080p, and skip the extra frames. IMO...
Here's a quick Batman page I did, I'm not much of an inker, I've gotten better since. sorry, my camera sucked its a little blury fabledcomics.deviantart.com/art/20151130-104133-575568522
Lessons from arguably the greatest comic artist of all time. Wow. Who better to teach comic book art. Breakdowns are the hard part. I would pay over half just for breakdowns. Even if the Breakdowns are bad they still help because I'd feel so much better and confident and I'd get it done much faster.
Seeing how the sketches arent immediately perfect and hes just jotting out ideas and fixing it along the way, makes me feel so much better. i also can't believe how much work it takes to draw out one page of a comic yet he makes it seem so effortless due to all his experience making comics. 😳
Thank you very much, Jim for do these streamings, are inspiring and I learn a lot, if read this (or somebody can let him know) please talk about the use of negative space,
This was a blast to see. I wish every artist att DC and Marvel did livestreams like this. Then again, if they did, yours would still be probably the most enjoyable
Did he ever explained about the three pencils he is using. Like 0.5mm 2b for shading or 0.9 hb for this or that. I mean he is using them with definite purpose obviously and i like to know what characteristics he finds useful for certain things. Notice is not about the specific brands or models (though i can recognize the gg 1000) i'm asking but lead hardness and lead mms in relation to the task. Thanks.
Hello Mr Lee. I was wondering would you ever relaunch Gen13 Comics as i know you were once part of Image Comics the guy’s behind Gen13 Wildcats and a bunch of other comics in the 80' I must say i kinda miss Gen13 it was a good story line. loads of humor and as a comic book artist myself now getting into storyboard for films i would love to collaborate on a relaunch of Gen13
This is interesting, no small roughs, I mean no thumbnails at all? Great to see the process though, I think a lot of people enjoy this seeing the mind of an artist that actually draws, its good for people to understand that, a creative artist makes stuff up, he doesn't have to copy.
