I have a tip!! For once! To get white charcoal on top of graphite you can use winsor & newton matte varnish spray, spray on the finished graphite about 3 times and the varnish will create a protective rough matte surface for the charcoal to “bite” on to, even on top of dark graphite areas. ⚡️

I think it's better to combine your photos - I can tell a painting from a photo verses plein aire; there's some kind of artifact or odd perspective that comes thru from the photo if the painting follows it too closely. A question: in the final view of the drawing there is a warmish tint on the left side, and the cliff and right side are much bluer. Is this just lighting?

Hey Andrew, another incredible piece from your SketchEndeavour Tutorial. Thank you for sharing this process. There is clearly so much one can learn from you about drawing/Sketching here. Would love to see this in a painting too, but the seascape sketch is clearly able to stand on its own merits as a creative art form. As always, love the way you work mate. Love the content. Ps out of interest just what kind of camera do you use for these recordings and what associated equipment does one need to make this tutorial possible?

Hello Andrew, Jensen Lee here. I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you ever thought about making a quick clip video tutorial on how do you prepare a painting for shipping? Like how to package them and the delivery process, etc. Because I’m going to try to open my own online art shop on Etsy this year and I wanted to see the process, because I haven’t shipped a painting before and I am a little bit afraid. Have a great day!

Hi Andrew: Stephan in Alaska here. First, please tell me about the talisman that you wear. I wear a piece of chevron that was made in Venice in 1492. It was used by seaman and Arab traders as currency in Africa. I have not taken it of since 1989. I want to thank you for your videos. I have artistic blood running in my veins. My great grandmother painted the California coast and the California Spanish Missions. I will make this short. I have grown in my painting because of your guidance. I now understand how to build up my oil paintings. You are right, work everyday or at least regularly is the path to success. Whether it be in drawing or in painting or like Hemingway in writing, we must work. Thank you very much. Someday if you like I will tell you the story about the time I was in the Louvre in Paris and was able to put my hand on Michelangelo's "The Man in Stone". Truly a cosmic experience. Or, drinking red wine as I sat in front of Van Gogh's and Gauguin's work. I have it like many others in my soul. Thank you for helping me bring it out. Your Friend in Alaska, Stephan Gregory,........
@AndrewTischlerArt
@AndrewTischlerArt 4 года назад
Hey Stephan, The pendant I wear is a NZ Greenstone a gift from my wife (a Kiwi). You have to me given a greenstone in order to wear it (so tradition goes). I've always loved them and many New Zealanders wear them. It's significant to Maori culture, but white folks are able to wear these, and by doing so they show appreciation for the land Aotearoa. The shape I wear is called a Toki, which could be either a weapon, signal of strength or courage or a carving implement. Many creative folks in NZ wear this particular shape. This is my limited understanding...I would invite anyone who knows more about this to comment!!

That was amazing Andrew.. sadly I don't do FB or Insta', Twitter etc etc just RU-vid so thanks for putting your art on here.. As awesome as this was and very informative I found the wet sand triangle the most fascinating...just a few stokes of a pencil and there you go, wet sand, reflections and rocks.. how simple you make it look. I'm not very tech savvy so don't even know how to save these videos to watch again it will all come down as to whether I can find them :(... I thought you might have put the snow capped mountains in the background as they were pretty stunning and I think would have added a lot of contrast but what do I know. Congrats to your friend Tony Pridham what an amazing painting of the eagle...'Quill' I must look him up.. cheers from WA

If you spray with fixative, the graphite gets matte, and looks just like charcoal. Only way I have found to make them work together. I find that the more graphite that is put on, the shinier it gets...so it never gets dark enough. If you add charcoal in just the darkest passages, it works...but only if you use the fixative. Otherwise, the matte quality of the charcoal sticks out very unfavorably.

I’ve been disabled for 20 years now and haven’t been able to do my En Plein Aire watercolors or the large oils they inspired. But dammit I can sketch. Thank you. This video is the first time I’ve heard you mention your gallery. That you opened it at the start of 2020 has me worried. I really really hope it survived Covid and is now going strong. Let us know what happened with it. Good luck in all you do. Keep painting. And keep posting.

Dont give up Troy there's more than one way to skin that cat.. if you cant stand then sit, and vice versa. If you cant hold a brush in your hand try your feet, I knew a guy years ago who had polio and he was a mouth painter.. he could hardly move. I burnt my hands as a toddler and learnt to hold pencils in my toes.. cant do it now though but I would give it a go if I had to rather than give up on art. Im 70 now and suffer chronic pain and even though I might not be great I do enjoy it and others like and even buy the odd thing I feel like I am brightening up the world one painting at a time. Cheers from Western Australia.
