Yesterday, I received a review sample of the Dragon Sparrow Dao from LK Chen Swords. Today, I practiced drawing and cutting with this sword. My assumption was that the sword should be drawn in a similar manner to other hidden hilt cavalry swords, such as the Caucasian Shashka. The only real change needed was to adjust the grip for the edge down orientation of the blade in the scabbard. This Dragon Sparrow Dao can be drawn and deliver a cut quickly. This method of drawing and cutting determines the hand placement on the hilt, with the last 2 or 3 fingers on the segmented brass collar next to the ring pommel and the index finger and thumb on the wooden grip. This gives the sword maximum reach and plenty of blade presence for the cut. As can be seen in this video, this sword cuts very well.
