Fun fact: in the Disney+ adaptation of the Togo story. It is shown that after Togo finishes his run he exaustedly lays down for some well deserved rest. But in reality the dog had so much energy that almost as soon as he was let out of his harness, he started chasing caribou and didn't come back for like three days.

Karina couldn't find historical accounts of catboys so she went with dogboys.

As an Alaskan Native, I very much appreciate that Karina used a darker skin tone for the dog bois.

Karina picking to also draw Togo is honestly so ironic, because if you read Togo's backstory, it is INCREDIBLY sports anime. To put it shortly, he was sick as a puppy & needed lots of extra care. When he got better, he became a real rowdy boy, a real delinquent, & his owner gave him away as a pet. THEN HE JUMPED THROUGH A CLOSED WINDOW to go back home & his owner was like damn!!! okay!! fine!!! But he was still a bad boy and kept fighting other dogs until a malamute taught him a lesson. Then when he was 8 months old, his owner got a gig to transport gold & locked Togo to the kennel, but if a closed window couldn't hold Togo back, a lock sure couldn't. He followed the sled dogs & even made them rowdy enough to try to fight reindeer, so finally his owner just put him in a harness AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW. Born natural leader! Born to be the best! And he wasn't even a year old yet!! SO sports anime!!!!

Julias almost made me cry because as a black person during black history month, I love seeing the history of my people and how POWERFUL they are especially the women

Learned a lot this episode. Now I'm curious in part of the social factors that led to Josephine Baker being so accepted in France, beyond just "less racism," like was she more defined by being American or a performer or her personality than ethnicity or what? It's interesting in what defines our identity to others and how that can change from place to place, country to country.

Fun fact: Balto & Togo were actually owned by the musher who drove Togo's team. He also neutered Balto because he wasn't "sled-dog" material and Balto's team were essentially the reject dog team that Gunnar put together when another team was needed and worked for the dogs' owner as a musher as well.

I love how down-pat Nathan has the Jojo style! His Jojo’s look like a blend of the best elements from parts 4 and 5 while remaining unique to him! And I am HERE for it! Also, you know someone’s setting out to draw a Jojo when their wireframe sketch looks like its a base in a fashion designer’s notebook XD (especually with the really broad shoulders, waspy waist, and sharply angled limbs)

I absolutely love it when Drawfee does these episodes where I can watch them draw the drawings in a time lapse manner while they explain what they drew and why. It brings such a fresh and quick aspect to it. Though I will say the traditional sense works really well for a binge day on the couch or in the bed c: these are great while at work though

I wish there was a movie about Josephine Baker, she was amazing! I only heard of her work for the French resistance before this but her whole life and personality are epic. And the other historical people in this video deserve a movie tbf

I recommend a guy named Henry Dunant for a future episode! He was the founder of the Red Cross and was a major contributor to the Geneva Conventions we still abide by today. He was on a business trip around the Italian/Swiss border when he came upon the aftermath of a terrible battle, known as the Battle of Solferino. Men lay wounded and dying amid heaps of their dead comrades and enemies, all just waiting for death to take them. There were over 20,000 soldiers left in the field to die. Dunant was so shocked by this he went to recruit civilians from a nearby town to try and help render medical aid and comfort the dying in their last moments. He wrote a memoir, A Memory of Solferino, about this experience. It’s not a long read! The memoir inspired the creation of the Red Cross, an organization that shall provide relief to all regardless of allegiance. Dunant was Swiss, and the Red Cross symbol came from inverting the Swiss flag!
