Hey y’all! I wanted to share a few tips on how to balance making art & working. I’m currently working full time this summer & this is my second year doing so. Drawing consistently while having other priorities is hard but I think it’s possible to do as long as u have a plan & a routine to make it easier. Just found your channel and omg you have some of the best practical and mindset advice I’ve heard about drawing, it seems crazy how simple yet effective everything you talk about is. As basically a complete beginner (been drawing for a month), do you know where I should go to learn how to draw faces, or any RU-vid videos to watch along while I draw? 😅 thanks for posting this and thanks if u answer!

Awww!! Thank u so much, im so Happy to hear that. Yesss 🤩🥳i’ll write down my favorites! 1. Thedrawingdatabase (they have a playlist called “the basics” for beginners & one on portrait they’re GREATTT) I suggest u go through their playlists & see what u want to practice the most. They have tutorials on almost everything 😅 2. Mmmmonexx: has great videos for beginners as well!! They’re easy to follow & have sm great info 3. Alphonso Dunn: I’ve been watching Alphonso since I was a kid and his videos rlly helped me when I was younger I would always follow his tutorials I suggest u look through his playlist “tutorials on drawing basics fundamentals” 4. Proko (his playlist on drawing basics is great) I even recently watched some of his videos they are super helpful & here are some more advanced artists for when u get further along on ur journey! 1. Have a clean desk it can be a deal breaker if there's a mess in your workspace. 2. Schedule time to draw. make it a habit! Also draw on weekends. don't draw every day (at least not at first) 3. set an alarm for a timeframe 4. draw while uninspired. like study, copy, or follow tutorial 5. know why you want to draw. 6. read books also go to museums 7. draw with someone. i kinda co run a discord for this exact purpose, drawing in a vc! 8. change your environment 9. keep a small sketchbook at hand 10. have fun, and chill out when needed. i just want to look at the whole list plus my own thoughts/notes. i love this video!

my struggle is always not doing it unless I can make giant progress or start and finish in a sitting like I did in high school, which is impossible like i had no responsibilities. really truly it’s learning to be okay with that 15-30 minutes of work even if you don’t see a lot of “progress”

as someone that has a physical disabilitie that makes drawing hard, i still do it just for me as i find it fun and enjoyable. On top of being working a job aswell and with me going back to college this fall these tips will be helpful for me as ive just been finding a good balance of drawing for fun but enjoying my other hobbies aswell.

Loved a lot of this advice, thank you! Your advice on keeping a sketchbook at hand reminded me of Stephen King's recommendation in On Writing to always have a book so you can read in small moments. I generally don't draw but I'm hoping to use your advice when I get back into filming in the future. Thank you!
