Dre & Bow Struggle with a Long Church Service - black-ish 

My uncle actually set off his own car alarm to have an excuse to leave the lengthy church service.

They missed the "turn to your neighbor"

They forgot the part where the pastor says “I’m about to close up right now” and someone in the crowd goes “TAKE YOUR TIME PASTOR” even though y’all been sitting there from 8am-12pm

My cousin is a Southern Baptist, and I learned this escape trick: when the uplifting song comes on, you start dancing to it, then you get so full of the Spirit you start dancing in the aisles, then you start dancing toward the door, then the Spirit makes you open the doors and start dancing down the stairs towards you car. When you get to your car, the Spirit goes back in the church, so you might as well take off and go to IHOP or something.

I went to a white church for my birthday once and it was the best present I had. They sang 2 songs, made announcements, collected offerings, preached about 20 minutes, sang a last so song, a short ending prayer and I was on my way home.

I grew up Christian and went to church weekly, but a girl I dated, who was black, invited me to her church... I gotta say the service felt like it would never end.

My black church starts at 9 the ends at 2 or 3 then everyone goes out to get something to eat. Then we have another service at 4 at that service depends on who is preaching. We usually get out around 7 or at most 10 pm

The preaching starts at 10.30 and it finishes whatever time the Pastor finishes praying, around hmmm 3 and 4ish.

this is so accurate for my church, they had so many complaints about the service being way too long and they finally gave in and now a whole bunch of things have been cut out of service. and my parents wonder why i hated going to church lmao

I just started watching Blackish, and this was the funniest episode to me!

when i was little in jamaica church would be from 9am until 2/3pm. then you have night services . This put me off church so much.

I'm from Nigeria. I traveled to visit an aunt and went to church with her and it was predominately white. After 45 minutes, we were done. I thought it was just the introduction. Church can go on for 3-5 hours . . . if we're lucky. And that was on Christmas! I expected praise and worship. three speakers, rambling testimonies, offerings, presentations from children's church and announcements!

when I was a kid, some Black dude would usually go off on a "spontaneous" long ass prayer, the preacher would say gently but firmly: "courtement mon frère, courtement". (be brief brother, be brief). the 1st time I went to a 1h long Reformed Church service I praised the Lord. no more 3h services for this gal. periodt.

And they forgot the preacher saying I’m getting ready to close 5x after a lengthy sermon. Govern yourselves accordingly after the announcement.

This is why I'm glad I was raised Catholic. Mass is 45 minutes tops, an hour if the priest is feeling extra holy. It's like clockwork. You sit, stand, kneel, prayer, eat communion and boom before you know it it's back in the car for IHOP.

As a Mormon, we generally have 3 hour blocks every Sunday consisting of two classes (one combined between men and women, the other separated) that involve discussions about the words of the Prophets and stories from the Bible and Book of Mormon, as well as Sacrament Meeting (basically just a one hour version of this). And it still feels like it takes forever😅
