Just what I wanted to see today! I can't wait for your overnight experience and review of this hammock. Please keep up the good work man. Love your videos!

Great product review. We love the research you bring us. I have a 3 person tent, weights 3 lbs and some change but we divy it up between the 3 of us, so just over 1 lb each. At 17 oz, the Dream Hammock is a similar weight. But solo hiking this might fit the bill. I love that's it's semi customizable. I'm like you, cost conscious, looking to shed ounces where it makes sense. Being 5'-10", 155 lbs figure we are similar builds, so I trust your opinion on comfort. As me and my hiking buddies are shifting from the Adirondack 46ers I'll be doing more solo so looking for a new tent or hammock setup. Your review of this product is a huge help. You are a true asset for us outdoor enthusiasts. Thank you Sintax!

I've been in a hammock for a couple years now. My main 3-season hammock is almost identical to this, except mine was about 80% DIY. Started with a BIAS Weight Weenie Micro. Same 1.0 Digital camo fabric, added my own bug net, made a gear organizer etc. I recently added tie outs to the sides. Great deal for $125, and nice review! Enjoy, happy hanging!

You're a huge help to me. Are people really giving your grief about changing to cinch buckles or brands of hammock and stuff like that? You just keep doing your thing, man. Keep the great info coming. The comparisons of the gear alone is worth watching.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking for a new hammock and this was very helpful. Earlier today I purchased another gadget you did a review before (RavPower battery charger). By the way, I really enjoy watching your 1 hr long hiking/camping videos.

Thanks for the review. I've been considering buying one of their hammocks but I've only had my current hammock for a year and I hate to replace it so soon. I have a Hammock Bliss which I like, but the bug net drives me crazy because there is so much material that it gets in my face. I like how the bug net on yours is tight and out of the way. I appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work.

Great review, was seriously considering this model as an option, along with the weight weenie micro from Butt In A Sling(B.I.A.S Hammocks). But,I ultimately went with the DD Hammock Superlight Hammock and bug net, total weight including whoopie sling, straps, and soft shackles( come standard) 16.23 oz. Great review as always, keep up the great work.

Wow prices have really come down. I went with a Darien SUL which isnt even listed on the site anymore. Same weight in material. The only major differences were I got a cuban stuff sack, cuban gear hang, and went with the whoopie hook suspension and paid $100 more. You def got a steal. Awesome hammock and congrats on the new purchase.

You could pick up a sturdy stick and use it as a toggle through the loop (hard to describe without a pic, sorry) and not worry about the Dutch clips. Wrap around the tree just like you are setting up the Dutch, but pass the main part of the webbing through the sewn in loop, forming another loop and put your stick in to hold it from going back through. 0 weight as long as you think you can find a couple sturdy sticks (and if you can't you probably can't find trees either)

I've been watching your videos for about a year now, pretty cool, and you give pretty good info. I just ordered a Darien for myself and I got it in 10' like you said yours is. I was just curious if you've ever regretted not getting the 11'? Mine will be longer than any of the three hammocks I own now, and I'm 5'10" so I think it should be fine.

I always wanted to give the Darien Dream Hammock a try and I just ordered one. Since I have the Half-Wit for my ultralight setup and the heavier Warbonnet BB for comfort this is more in between. The new Chameleon is a little heavy so that's why I went with the Dream Hammock. Do you ever plan on using your Darien DH again?
@sintax77
@sintax77 7 лет назад
+uptrail71 I love my Darien. The only downside to mine is that I ordered in as a 10 footer back before I knew that my preference was 10.5' to 11', but it's an awesome hammock. Plus, I got it as a single layer in the 1.0 fabric right before he stopped offering it that way. Collector's edition :)
@cfraimondo233
@cfraimondo233 9 лет назад
I'd be interested to see the weight of the hammock and needed tarp versus a single man tent and comfort comparisons
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
Personally, I find hammocks to be hands down more comfortable. Weight wise, my Darien coupled with a Cuban tarp would run about 1.5 lbs for a price similar to many quality UL tents. Or run it with a Hennessy Hex tarp: 2.5 pounds, total cost $205

Would you recommend this hammock for a first time hammock camper? I have never camped in a hammock and would like to get into it. I don't own a sleep system now but from research, UL hammock camping is what seems best fit for me. I am thinking of getting this hammock with the cinch buckle option.

Yes, it's a standard 83% ridgeline. I'm sure you could always contact Randy at DH to discuss the possibility of customization though.
@aklags
@aklags 9 лет назад
Just curious, did you order this in "single layer?" The site now seems to suggest under that fabric page that your chosen fabric is not available on "single layer" hammocks... Have you noticed that on their site? How did you get around that? I wouldn't want to add a second layer to add weight...
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
aklags Yeah, I got mine right before Randy stopped doing the UL single layer hammocks. I think some users had some unrealistic expectations and probably some failures from not treating them with a higher level of care, but that's just a guess. I remember him saying on the forums that there was going to still be one type of either 1.0 or 1.2 fabric that he felt was still acceptable for a single layer. It may be a special order though - I would call or e-mail Randy directly and see what he can do.

what's your rain-fly solution? Does the one you have on your Hennessey work for this one?
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
werm69 Yes, both my Hennessy tarps (stock as well as the larger deluxe model) should work fine with it. I started hanging my Hennessy tarps separate from the hammock, so switching between systems should be pretty simple.

Hey sintax77 was wondering how you got into/decided to use hammocks instead of going tarp tent or other light weight options? Thanks for all the great videos/letting us tag along on your trips!
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
My top reason is really comfort and fun. The weight is certainly a factor, but if weight is the only concern, you can probably go lighter with a single person tarp-tent and a foam pad.

UQ recommendation..... I ordered this hammock in 11ft with UQ hooks. Looking for recommendations on an all around 3 season full length UQ. Capable of 20* but able to vent and use in the summer. I have a ENO ember and its not much good outside summer. Any suggestions before I spend a crapload of money? Darien comparable... 20* and above... Weight is important.... I section hike 3-14 days Thanks for any help, A.Short

sintax77 I currently have a Hennessy Hammock that I've been using for about 5 years now. mine beening before they had the zipper models and my velcro is failing and im looking to upgrade to a zippered. I have been looking at getting the dream hammock darien but was wondering how it compared to the hennessy in regards to the asymetric design. would you say that it is similar? can you lay at a well diagonal and get pretty flat compared to your hennessy?
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
Kodiblack I had no problem transitioning from the Hennessy to the Dream Hammock and getting a nice diagonal lay. I think you'll like it a lot. One thing to keep in mind though, is that the Darien model doesn't have side pull-outs, which you may have gotten used to on your Hennessy. Personally, I had stopped using my pull-outs when I switched to using an underquilt, so it didn't bother me. Most of the other Dream Hammocks have pull-outs, so you could always check them out as well. One other thing to think about - I went with a 1.0 fabric, which reduced my weight dramatically compared to the Hennessy, but the lighter fabrics typically do have more stretch. I find it quite comfy, but if you prefer the feel of the heavier Hennessy fabric, there are a ton of fabric options on the Dream Hammock site, including double layer options. Enjoy the research! :)
@TheJakeConley

sintax77 Thanks, thats good to hear. i think im going to do with the Darien with the 1.6oz diamond ripstop. and I had seen that you can add tie offs for like $10 which I think Ill do. not a bad price when compared to the hennessy ultra light which is what i was considering. Im thinking im going to order one and hopfully have it in time for a trip up the the boundary waters canoe area in late June. Thanks for the input, and keep the videos coming!! Do you ever have problems with mosquito bites thru the hammock material where your body is pressing down on the hammock material?
@sintax77
@sintax77 5 лет назад
No, I haven't personally had that issue, but keep in mind that I'm using an underquilt with it, so that provides extra protection. A lot of people do seem to like the double layer hammocks for that very reason, though.
@Arbitrage69

Thanks - I did not realize the double layer would be enough to stop them. I think some folks use Sawyer Permethrin Clothing and Fabric Insect Repellent - spray it on and it lasts 6 weeks. @@sintax77

@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
jim jones Actually, I've found that the underquilt works even easier without the pullouts. Once I hop in, it just sort of nests right down in there and makes for a pretty solid seal against the hammock body.
@jimjones9323
@jimjones9323 9 лет назад
sintax77 thanks, I've seen in other videos were the under quilt attaches to the sling lines at the ends of the hammock. I'm starting to get the idea. On another subject do you mainly walk trails? The reason I ask this is your gear is very light and would most probably get damages having to push your way through the scrub. Where I'm from you make your own trails as there are few marked a cleared trails.

sintax77 can you use the henessy snake skins on this hammock?
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
Colton D'Agostino The Darien is far less bulky than the Hennessy, so I don't see why not. You may have to thread the cinch buckle loops through the skins first, before attaching to the hammock - I don't think the cinch buckles will fit through the narrow end of the snakes skins.

Ouch! 10:40 If you're still using the Dutch clips hopefully you've since reviewed Dutch's setup instructions (currently there's also a diagram on the product page). You don't want your webbing sheered back to the hammock like that. In this shot, the clip should be on the other side of the post so that it takes a straighter path to the hammock. It may pull to the front side of the post under load but that's okay. Sheering will cause premature wear and reduces the strength of any rope or webbing.

syntax7701 If I have a good sleeping bag, do I need an underquilt as well? Or is it more of a judgement call based on the weather? I like the idea of a hammock for backpacking, but hammock + tarp + underquilt = a lot of money, a lot more than I expected it would cost, and more than a high end minimalist shelter.
@sintax77
@sintax77 9 лет назад
Alexander Finlay Unless it's really hot out, you'll want either a pad or underquilt, since the down underneath you will compress and have minimal effect, resulting in a cold butt. For my first couple years of hammock camping, I just used my existing sleeping pad and and sleeping bagand it got the job done at no extra cost. That way, you can focus on the hammock system for now, and transition to quilts down the road.
