Build a base for your island and get it to the height you are comfortable with. To do anything less is a disservice to your level of professionalism. I love your kitchen and am so happy for you.
Gaz ive watched you for years.... This beautiful and excellently thought out space is perfect for you. And the gratitude just oozes out of you. Im genuinely so proud of you and so encouraged for this next season with this exquisite space. Ive been in gardening and food forestry for nearly two decades this year and my husband just built my dream island to help accomodate the harvests better. Just that one piece took so much TLC, i cant imagine the entire kitchen. Being created with this in mind. Congrats!!!

I’m blessed to have been grateful for the cooking I did today too and I realized I used to write letters on how I served up the foods I did once before in life as well too! Shared it with people and found some relaxation with all of that as well too!

The best part is seeing your joy in your lovely new space! We bought a house 3 years ago and changed nothing because everything is working and functioning and didn’t want to spend on aesthetics but you inspired me to go ahead and make it something that sparks joy and pride.
Just hearing your enthusiasm as you gave us the tour, I can tell you put your heart and soul into this kitchen. Your attention to detail shows in every inch of this beautiful kitchen. I absolutely love the island, don’t get rid of it. With just a small pedestal built under it, it will fit in perfectly and fit you perfectly as well.

I really love your kitchen Gaz and also collect old and arty stuff, beautiful how you have put it all together! In my last house, I fitted a glass panel behind my stove so I could see the colour of my wall...it was perfect and easy to keep clean! Love your videos and amazing food, you are truly a natural! The kitchen is gorgeous. If you want to keep the same plan with using cutting boards behind the stove, I think you could. You could collect some rough or damaged vintage cutting boards and cut them into small tiles and attach them to the wall like a tile backsplash made of rustic wood. The difference in thickness of the tiles would add an interesting texture. Only if you are concerned about that wall getting greasy or discolored. It's an absolute dream kitchen. You're such a lovely person, I am so happy that you got this excellent space to work and present from.

I love the kitchen, very warm and it looks like an old movie set or the hobbit house. I would definitely keep the island. If you feel it is to low, raise it and try and salvage the trim piece at bottom to cover the feet that will elevate it.
It’s damn near perfect! I agree with the others about raising the island. The only thing I would change (for filming) would be to have 2 pendant lights over the island so that the one doesn't block the beautiful stained glass window. I found that distracting. I would also find a place to store the dish drainer. It detracts from the beauty of the kitchen. Im so jealous of that kitchen! I remodeled the kitchen in my Airstream a few years ago & its grayscale. I wish it was green instead 😢

Very nice kitchen, love that u went for the textured earthy look. I'd probably break up that long shelf at the back wall up into 3 to give it some. interest and 2 different heights. One straight line is a bit boring to look at but otherwise I love all your details and the old finds, timber and Bauwerk paint. Lovely job Gaz I bet your loving it!!!
You could get a load of old second hand chopping boards and use adhesive to stick them on as a splash back, it would be so unique! They’d just need varnishing to protect them from oil\staining I think. You could do the same with the top of your island too, to create a higher worktop X
Working on my outdoor kitchen, where I can cook for the summers, when it is too hot to be cooking indoors, and making the AC and conditioned basement air work harder than it needs to. Thinking about using retaining wall bricks for the bottom, and rivercane harvested from the property to make a windbreak and rain cover.... And I want it to look similar to the cooking pit in Howl's Moving Castle, a large, open fosh mouth. 🐟🎏🍚🥧🥘🍕 🍲

I love it, I wouldn’t change a thing, it’s an experience kitchen . You’ve managed to achieve an organic feel while Incorporating modern gadgets. Love the floor, the walls, all of it.
I LOVE the island!! You could put it on a low platform or "Feet" to bring it up. One thing I do like is that we can see the entire counter and stovetop behind you, in the shot. But maybe they can angle the shot so we can still see the counter tops.
Add a worktop to the island, you could get creative and have something really unique made. Could go down the epoxy resin route and then the options for the top would be boundless, wood, coppers etc

I love your kitchen and how much thought you've put into every part of it. In case you are interested in someone else's perspective and comments: I think if you put the things on the shelves e.g. the glass jars in a more random order and less evenly spaced out, it will give that more natural and 'used' kitchen look, also think the back wall would like nice with something else on it for example a back splash (a tile one would like nice)

Gaz, I love your place there and the kitchen is gorgeous! If you want your island to be higher, have the builder add a few inches or more by raising it up from the bottom with some feet or boards.Happy cooking and can't wait to see your garden and the chickens.

What a lovely kitchen... It's absolutely dreamy. About the texture in the countertops I'll tell you that probably more texture in there, more patterns, may be too much and would feel overwhelming, so I think it may have been the right decision after all. But I have a question: What about the extractor hood!?!? Also you seem so excited and happy... it's refreshing to see!
I think a little raise at the bottom of the center piece with some addition storage that tie in the new cabinetry and old center piece would be perfect, but overall love how all the pieces are collected over time, really makes it your own and unique

❤❤ Adore the kitchen, & utility they have the most beautiful blend of rustic timeless charm, professional simplicity & aesthetic excellence. The island fits the style and suits the kitchen, if you would like it raised a little, maybe ask the kitchen cabinet makers to make a plinth to raise it? It will save you back for years to come, especially as this gorgeous kitchen is also your creative space, work zone and film studio. Watching you create delicious dishes outside, was a joy, and teaches us all, that outside cuisine can be dishes of homegrown abundant decadence, creative and delicious & a joy to make to sustain us :) I would consider a protective edge where your pans touch the wall, to protect both the wall & pan edges, even if it is a temporary wooden strip, whilst you deceide / get made / get fitted the wall covering / splash backs etc. Your kitchen is beautiful & 3 years to design & master that design truely shows the level of thought & consideration that has taken place, to perfect the practicality & aesthetic :) Gorgeous on every level.

I adore the antique shop counter as an island! I think you should keep it, it's a great piece, and If it is too low for you to work on, ask your carpenter to raise it and add a toe kick, you don't want to micro strain your back. The antique professional term for worn older items is "patina", meaning they have acquired a special finish due to use, whereas the word "tatty" implies worn out and falling apart.
