Love ya, both are relaxing and videos are getting better . I like how you show work on live aboard and the work on other folks sails . You are so busy , but living life to the fullest........keep up being real to the u tube channel videos.
This is great at content. I'm on the north channel, Lake Huron and don't see many wooden boats. I guess I would need dive gear to look at the numerous wrecks around here.
Get rid of that wheel and pedestal, and get a tiller, like a real sailboat, and you can keep the seating and storage and have plenty of room in the cockpit. Plus the steering will be improved, simplified, and made safer. Deck boxes add weight above the center of gravity and add to instability.
I had my doubts, too. There’s something to be said about being behind the wheel, all captain-like. But then I got tired of stumbling around the thing every time I wanted to go forward, or trying to talk to someone while sitting in the cockpit and having it in the way, or that time the steering cable almost severed. So I tore it out. Suddenly there was all this space, people could sit in the cockpit without this thing in the middle, I had one less maintenance item…etc. I’ll never go back. But it’s your boat, so your decision. Fair seas…
@@Jeremy-ge6lr good point honestly. I’m stoked on my steering gear, it’s a huge quadrant and chain, I’m going to add an emergency tiller for certain. That cockpit would be huge without the wheel honestly. Hmmmm. Food for thought. Definitely. I won’t rule it out 😁
Wow ! The boat is coming along very nice . Cockpit is looking awesome with the Cetol on the woodwork. Cant wait till launch day, I am sure you cant wait either!!!
There’s a old wood boat close to Annapolis on the C And C canal . Maybe 55 foot . She was sailing In 2011 . I found some pictures inside. Its around 100 years old . Someone came along ,took all the teak flooring and the midship wood work and portholes. They took a sawzaw and cut out the big butterfly hatch in the middle , set it aside ,then took everything. It’s still possible to save . It’s bullshit.
I know its work and ideas are a dime a dozen:) but what if you rounded just the corner on the bench storage seat? I know you have the talents. Looking very good best luck!
What a great old ship! The content is awesome and I wish prosperity on you both. Looking forward to seeing the Formosa, like the rest of us captain Ron fanboys.
Wow a Grande ole Lady of the sea, she starting to look stunning. If only these boats could talk, the stories they would tell. Great episode, top presentation Thanks. I love it when people bring history back to its prime.
Dagon, (hope I spelled that correctly), is looking so good and you've already came such a long way with her, she's almost ready for the Prom. I'm looking forward to the finished, or as finished as any vessel can be, yacht when you're done. Deleting those lockers in the cockpit was a killer idea and leaves so much room for activities, (think Step Brothers). Then adding those deck boxes will be the icing on the cake. Replacing the lost storage and you can build them to fit what you need them to the true beauty of going custom. That gas locker is going to look so much better once you get it all shined up and varnished/brightened. You two kids are taking a vessel that was sadly very close to an early grave and turning it into something truly spectacular, what an awesome job of it you're doing. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...
Yea, the locker scupper could use some love for sure. The cockpit main area has two 2 inch scuppers and doesn’t collect water thankfully. Mostly the locker drain just had a ton of boat yard debris in it.
Comin' along kiddywinks, comin' along well. I dont know whats lurking under that port aft seating area. If it could be refashioned too, I'd go with "esthetique and practique". Leaving a square watertight seat/storage on both port and starboard sides. Then from the aft corner inboard of each square locker, continue the seating back aft diagonally, to finish in the aft corners of the cockpit. It would not only give essential free movement 360° around the helm but the over hanging (not closed in underneath) diagonal seats would help with water runoff should a wave come from forward or on the beam. What about draining hanging bags for ropes, sheets, etc ? Will you be "fairing" the rudder at some point ? I nearly pooped myself waitin' all weekend !! Oh, just sayin, and Im a musician, you guys were doin' great with the sound balance up until this 'lil video. I must of adjusted the sound twenty times !! (Liar, Liar, pants on fiyaaaa !!) No seriously, my neighbours thought I was watchin' soft porn (just sayin') 🤪🤪🤪 Big Big Hugs and Bisous from (Mark) in Normandy. PS I'll Insta you Barry of whats happenin' over here on the Cotentin peninsula, south of Cherbourg.
Love the continent. Always a dream of mine to restore old boats like that. Sound was a little rough on this one but maybe I’m just getting hard of hearing lol.
Sorry I edit everything on my phone and I slightly rushed this episode so I’m try and focus on sound. We’re going to buy some microphone equipment in the near future to help
Loving these episodes. Not a native english speaker so I've been curious what you're talking about when you're talking about "sea tawl"? Seatall? I gather it's some sort of varnish or maybe stain?
Hey! Thanks for watching, yes, “Cetol” is a varnish from the company “sikkens”. There are many types of “cetol”, we use “cetol marine” and “cetol marine gloss” for a final layer.
Inspectors have that *way* with people...whole messa yeahs-yups, not enough uh-huhs or you bets though...just sayin'...you gonna do the Dodger thing, or just a Bimini?
Yes, I went over to see her last month. simon and I glassed a huge amount of the foredeck and port side scuppers. Headed over there this week hopefully. We have months of footage to go through but will jump back to her soon. She still needs soo much work.
They’re in charge of all commercial vessels and as a commercial vessel providence is subject to a deck inspection every year to maintain commercial status and every four years a prop shaft and running gear / below water inspection.
