The only thing missing is the guitar opening, but the song itself seems even better than Areosmith. Loved the dystopian set. Eli, Cesar, and Omar are a real power trio anchored by Eli's solid rock tenor.
That's the thing about song covers. They make it their own, not as close to the original as possible. Besides, unlike the violin, the guitar would take away more of them being an acapella group.
Thank you for another great reaction. I think the scattering sound that Layne was making is to represent critters scurrying around the vacant run down building. The ending is what gave me delicious chills when Omar, Cesar & Eli hit those high notes. The three of them are phenomenal together.
Remember the first time you watch this because that's the very moment when you saw a cover become a classic in its own right., that stands up to the original and may eventually surpass it given the test of time
I've spent most of my night listening to this. It's well and truly in my head... Can't even fully remember the original now... Not that the original isn't brilliant toio... Love your analogy to the tap dancing. ☺️☺️
This was filmed in Eli's old high school and was the perfect place for this song. Geoff hit G1s in this, but that high Tyler scream done in high G# harmony was fantastic! And the runs they do, and Layne's cool beatboxing! So, SO good! Omar was a great choice for this cover.
I really enjoy your reactions to Voiceplay and was also pleasantly surprised to see that you finally acknowledged Layne. Each member has their own wonderful specialties, but without Layne's consistent rhythm with percussion, it just wouldn't be as effective. You really need to listen to each of these songs and concentrate on just what Layne brings to these arrangements. You'll not regret it!! :)
This wasn't everything I wanted in a Dream On cover by Voice Play. It was good, great even, but I think it could've been so much more if we would've gotten what everyone expected, even if it was only for a second. That Eli metal scream. I wanted, so much, that Eli metal power vocal that we all know he's capable of and this was the absolute perfect opportunity for them to give it to us...and they didn't. *sigh* Oh, well. Still a great cover.
I’m really not disappointed in the song-Eli had some amazing riffs and I could also see an argument for Geoff getting to do some of the screams, only basso, but what they did was fabulous. I am more and more impressed with Cesar every time I hear him. He can do so much. And I can’t imagine this song without Omar, either. Then Layne hit us with whatever the heck that was-awesome, and Geoff drilled down to the earth’s core. It worked. But yeah, I did expect to see Eli in his element in this song. To make it up to us they need to do Queen’s Princes of the Universe and let Eli rock out.
Are you nuts ? That ending with Omar, Cesar & Eli were so high it blew my ears off. The three of them together are phenomenal. That is exactly what was needed to showcase the three of them together.
This could have been a great cover, but in my mind it was disconnected and felt unfinished. The sound was there, there were great harmonies, the guys sang their asses off, but it was disjointed and didn't flow well in my mind. A classic like this deserves better.
@@marshayoung9387 I disagree. However, that's okay. I think that reversing the roles played on the highest note for the final "dream on" of the set would've given everyone what they both expected and wanted. That one note, IMO, that one change wouldn't have changed the arrangement so much as to take anything away from anyone, and would've given so much to the fans. They chose a different route for the arrangement, though, and that's fine. As I said, it's still a really, really good cover.
