2:47 - I love that James LaBrie got the 'Dance of eternity' question right. I realise he's the vocalist and not an instrumentalist, but I love the man and I love this band and the idea of James even just rocking around on stage during that instrumental just melts my heart.
Watch his foot tapping during certain verses in certain songs, he usually keeps really accurate beat on the time signature to help him sing, he was a drummer as a kid so he prolly has some chops on that stuff (having in mind he can make vocal melodies for them lol)
@@theozuretti6091And his son is a drummer and has a band currently! Like father like son hahaha, or I guess you could say he is “Honoring Thy Father” 😉
It took time but I'm starting to look at Mangini in a different way. It's like if he were like "my mother's new husband", the one you hate just because he is not "dad" but in the end happens to be a nice guy. Then and only then I open my ears to what he sounds like and consider listening to the new albums.
Seriously. I was going to go all the way to Denver from SLC just to see them, but that is now up in the air... Hope they can decide on getting out and touring.
He said 160. And he probably got confused like I did and counted the eight parts of 6DOIT, three parts of A Mind Beside Itself and two parts of In the Presence of Enemies to bump up the song count
Man what bums me out is that Portnoy would probably be the best one at this because of him being apparently being such an obsessed control freak over everything DT related
Scoreboard: JP: 7 JM: 7 MM: 6 JR: 6 JL: 5 Mangini did a pretty solid job tho! The way he said "Nah, I don't know ... two?" at 4:35 and nails it cracks me up :D
I love how even I knew that The Dance of Eternity had the most time signature changes, and I got nothing else correct, and the rest of the band got it correct.
I got a question: Total amount of time John Myung has spoken over Dream theaters existence ? I’m guessing around 45 seconds in the last 20 years or so.
Hi guys! Man, these men + Mike Portnoy and his site projects (Flying Colours, Neil Morse, Transatlantic, Son of Apollo) influenced my life that much! Thank you all for what you've created! Awesome! My first song of DT I listened t was 6 o'clock and I was young and a beginner on the drums, and I thought...hmmm. ... Quite fast bass pattern. And I found out that there is something called double bass! Actually about 20 years ago. Time flies! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks to them I am professional classical musician now (yeah I know it's kinda weird since prog metal and classical are not exactly the same), and I love what I do. Also I basically learned to love music thanks to DT. I don't always listen to them like I used to, but I am very grateful to them for influencing me so much in my life. Have a nice night over there! PD: As a hobby, I also play bass thanks to John Myung.
Manuel, hi there from Australia! It's always special to look back on those first songs that hit our ears from Dream Theater and remember the effect it had on us. For me, the introduction to DT was the Awake album and in some ways, it was a challenging introduction - it was a dark album, even the photos and album liner notes. The mix was heavy and dark and just everything was so fresh and new to my ears - especially blown away by Petruccis solo at the outro of 'Lie'.
Mike Portnoy probably remembers stuff like how many people were in the audience at Budokan and the pair of socks he was wearing during the last gig of the 1998 tour.
It was even unfair to ask LaBrie. He joined when the album had pretty much been already written. But that's not really an excuse. Mangini was the only one who knew Disappear had been played only twice (MSG and Budokan) and he wasn't there when either of those shows happened.
I can't avoid thinking that Mike Portnoy would've answer each question correctly, the guy knew every little detail of the band including dates, trivia of course, after all this time it still hurts he's not with them anymore, with that being said it's good to see that the new dt is getting along.
Nice trivia, this is so fun! But my one dream is to hear "Change of seasons" being played live. Would that ever be possible again? That's the best song ever!
@@AviationMusicR7 hell ya man that’s great I’m a bass player I’ve been playing 11 years I don’t really post much on RU-vid but I post a lot on instagram
Been a fan since 92 and these guys are still making magic. I am going out on a limb but I have always loved the Awake album and the last song on it Space Dyed Vest.
