In The Presence of Enemies really shows what Labrie is capable of. He gets so much shit for his inconsistent vocal, but when he nails it, he fucking NAILS it.
Labrie understands how to sing at a high level. Back in the day he used to nail performances all the time. Now he’s just this shell of his former self. Maybe it’s the constant touring singing these insane songs where he’s got to be insanely dynamic all the time just wearing his vocal cords down. Maybe it’s 100% percent the injury. The criticisms against him are 100% legitimate but he’s not this shitty singer people say he is. He’s a world class singer that just seems to be washed up or what would be the worst of all, lazy.
@@tylerjacobson8012 he ruptured his vocal chords from throwing up after getting food poisoning in '94. He may not be perfect but he's a damn good vocalist. I'd love to see anyone bounce back after something I've that.
It's normally not my taste, and I would not consider myself a DT fan, but I enjoy a lot of their work. And although LaBrie's style does not nail my personal taste, I find that it matches the music perfectly. I really appreciate that DT never replaced him or anything -- that's what some people just seem to "expect" on the web. Not cool. He is part of this work, and rightfully so. If you dislike it, you do not have to listen.
This song has aged like the finest of wines. I did love it when Systematic Chaos released, but over the years it has become one of my absolute favorite of their epics.
@@booklover_222 Oh yeah! I didn’t intend it, but it may have been in the back of my head when I wrote the comment. “All the finest wines improve with age” 🤘
When James LaBrie has the right day, he beats most singers. When James LaBrie has the wrong day, most singers beat him. This performance definitely belongs in the first category
BTW, It all makes me think LaBrie is just amazing but he has issues keeping his health on top condition (even though he of course tries) and that's what makes him suck sometimes.
@mightysmeagol Thing is, in a bad day, Labrie sounds bad, like real bad, headache inducing bad. I love the guy, but with him it is gamble whether will sound like an amazing singer or a dying cat. I know he has had several health problems with his vocal chords and I try to be forgiving with him, but sometimes it is not even listenable, it gives too much secondhand embarrassment.
00:00 - I. Prelude 04:19 - II. Resurrection 08:53 - III. Heretic 15:08 - IV. The Slaughter of the Damned 18:18 - V. The Reckoning 22:03 - VI. Salvation
IIRC The reason why it was split into two parts was because of Octavarium; they didn't want to repeat Octavarium by having another 24 minute final track in Systematic Chaos so they decided to split it
I was so shocked the first time I saw this on the DVD, I couldn't believe how insanely skillfull and talented this guys are. If I would've been actually there in the front row I would just fuckin' die...
I wouldn't want 2 be in the "front row' or really close to the stage because I'd be too fixated om Petrucci's L hand.(trying 2 scope out how he plays the song) (He has a youtube "channel" with a demonstration of "stream of consciousness)".
I can't believe how lucky this audience is. This song has been played in its entirety very few times. This is absolutely over the top, man. My favourite of all time. I just can't get enough of this fucking masterpiece.
I saw em do it live, didn't dig it (aside from the first JP solo, which is a sweet spot), went to get a beer. I clicked to double check my 13 year old math here. It doesn't really work as a song for my buck. Just odd to me that it's anyone's all time fav. Peace
There are no words enough to describe how immensely epic and huge this song is. It describes an entire world of music in just one song, the way Yes did it with Close to the edge, Or Genesis with Supper's Ready. Or ELP with Tarkus. It's just too awesome. And I had the privilege of watching it live twice: Once in 2008 and the other 2019. Dream Theater are the absolute best.

Sumpah..! aku tidak faham jalan pikiran mereka membuat musik seperti ini, sungguh diluar nalar.. apalagi lagu "A Change of Seasons" I Love it.. I Love so much DREAM THEATER 🤘
Saw them last night supporting their new album and playing Metropolis in its entirety. The band is outstandingly awesome, it's not even funny ! Petrucci is indeed a god, maybe even more now judging by his performance. Amazing doesn't begin to describe this band
I don't care about who is faster than who or has a better technique, I just know that I enjoy so much listening to and seeing MP playing along with the others, the chemistry that he had with JP (most of all), and that vibe that they all had back then, they're like a different molecule now, I just prefer this one. Sweet performance!
Greatest Prog Power Metal band ever!!!!! Each musician is a virtuoso! Kan't think of any other band with that kind of ingenuity and a perfect symbiosis between thwem while playing! AMAZING! I LOVE YOU GUYS !
Jordan Rudess' intro performance for ITPOE Part 2 truly gave a chilling effect to me. Thing song successfully conveyed the atmosphere of where its inspiration come from, "Priest" Korean manhwa (comic). Can't stop listening to this song...reminds me that evil lurks in every corner of earth
This is one of the best live performances of the band, including LaBrie, you can hear every instrument and voice colocated exactly where they must be in.
This is such an AMAZING story and song. DT has been my very favorite band since I first heard Images & Words in 1992... and nobody has ever been able to top them, in 32 years now. I LOVE you guys..
Nah. This album had good reviews. I think Awake was silly, because the guitars were trying to imitate the Pantera sound, which was the trend at the time. You had great songs but the result was guitar riffs that didn’t fit.
Portnoy era demais cara, arrebentava mesmo, nos passava energia, eu tive o prazer de ir no show quando ele ainda estava e vieram para sao paulo, fodastico
I really wish they had gotten better cameras for this. a lot of it looks like it was shot on some video cameras they got on sale at walmart instead of pro level cameras.
+Perry D I agree, but the whole point of this DVD is that is was (meant to be) the best performances of tracks from the entire tour. I can't imagine how much it would have cost to have pro cameras at every single show.
Portnoy noted in his FAQ on his website that a full DVD shoot usually costs about $100,000. Considering that Chaos in Motion was to highlight the best performances from the whole tour cycle, that would be a lot of money to set up at every show, plus add extra money to have everything moved from show to show and camera operators would have to travel with the band too. It’s a lot to manage. Besides, it really doesn’t bother me too much, the performance alone is what I’m here for, and man does DT deliver.
i went to both of the systematic chaos tours in detroit, ‘07 and ‘08, i was 9 & 10 at the time and this is the only way i can relive this show so thanks for uploading 🤙🏻
