@@williamf.buckleymusic666 Not shocking at all. James hasn't been sounding good since 2017 (he couldn't even hold a tune to their LATEST song Untethered Angel back in 2019). I'm more surprised at the fact that they didn't downtune their classic songs to make James a bit more comfortable. They used to do it during Mangini era, with minimal success. Maybe that's why they don't bother doing it this time, lol.
@@abohsukampretnah newer stuff in the keys he can sing sound ok but going back to sing songs he can get up there without sounding not great is a whole other matter. Lowering the keys on there would help him tremendously
One horrific bout of food poisoning and violently vomiting for hours caused irrevocable damage (especially because this occurred in 1994 and he couldn't take the six months medical leave because DT was scheduled to tour less than two weeks later) that's a very tough moment in the budding career and at a pinnacle moment of a singer and the band. I can't sing, but one would think that despite his efforts over the years and belting out amazing songs, that there would be in 2024, 30 years later information / technology that's developed to perhaps help build back up or repair what he once had, idk... it's too bad. I'm sure if there was, he'd be doing something about it more than tea and vocal warmups. He'd be a great candidate for educational vocal analysis / go through the tests with "the charismatic voice". Their prior interview should just be step one. It'd be interesting to see and hear explanations as to how the damage occurred and why only immediate rest was the "forever" cure. I saw DT almost 20 years ago, he sounded amazing! Age plays a factor too.
@@ThePoorBoy I know his voice is not what it used to be, but I cannot imagine Dream Theater without James. James will definitely retire from Dream Theater with that day. Will be when the entire band retires.
@@EntitySevenParanormal I'm already seeing comments from people who don't want to see the band any longer because of James. I love James, but it's time.
@@ThePoorBoy I don’t disagree. I just can’t see James not being a part of Dream Theater. It’s one of those things where I grew up listening to the band. When James was in his prime, my God, he had a powerful voice that could just reach height. Since he messed up his vocal cords and age plays a factor, he’s just struggling. When it comes live shows, he just doesn’t have it anymore. It really pains me to see and hear him struggle.
2:05 this is the only vocal range where James still sounds listenable. They either need to tune down the old stuff a whole step (if not a step and a half) or part ways. I say this as a massive lifelong DT fan. It’s not just not being able to hit certain higher notes, James is starting to miss the actual melodic lines altogether.
I went last night and maybe it was because I was singing even more badly over it that I didn’t notice but jlb didn’t seem to be anywhere near as bad as he sounds here at the time!
🙏👍 yes couldn’t afford the hundred pounds plus for the ticket plus the train fair plus the hassle; so well done whoever you are for uploading the footage
As a lifelong Dream Theater fan for the past 30 years, I can no longer tolerate how James LaBrie's failing vocals diminish the quality of their live sound
@@CreateBeautifulLives it's a shame..i understand he can't go high now,but sometimes it's seems like he's not trying even a little, speaking words and not singing..i don't want him being like 1994 self,but..maybe 2005.. in cameo videos we see that he even can sing surrounded well if he tries a little...i'm not a best singer and not singer at all,but it seems like even i can go better and closer to how this song needs to be sing..sorry for my bad english and harsh comment, hope you understand me
Such an amazing setlist this time. Vocals are unlistenable as usual. I wish I could remove them from my mix like Petrucci said he does in his monitors.
once again LaBria is a drama. this guy sings so off-key that it takes away the pleasure of watching and listening to this band. someone should finally give him autotune at concerts because his howling hurts my ears :( :(
Why on earth did they not lower the key to their old songs? Right out of the gate James is singing the original key to Metropolis and it’s a rookie mistake knowing the past in how he sounds now. I mean they lowered the keys on there SFAM anniversary tour and I think I&W anniversary tour then so why not now? Ballsy move on their part
The lineup? Do you mean the members? James Labrie in voice, Mike Portnoy in drums, John Petrucci in guitar, Jordan Rudess in keys and John Myung in bass
Me encanta la voz de Labrie en estudio, pero en directo es insufrible, hasta el gran Freddie Mercury tenía bajones en directo, pero lo de Labrie es digno de análisis
Jame's singing is just straight up horrible - there's no way of saying it politely anymore. He ruins every show and they've had SO MUCH time to replace him. END THIS MADNESS FOR GOD'S SAKE!
@@DanyNMacF Im a huge fan of DT, and sadly Im agree with you. Im musician, (not at DT level obviusly) and is impossible that the rest of the band doesnt notice and hear it every night
Hey MP you will never be better than MM no matter how big is your kit..Now you have the answer why they/he asked MM to reduce his kit..before they kicked him out of the band without any warning or explanation.Miss you Mike Mangini!Much love !
go listen to mike mangini stuff Mike portnoy is original drummer on this band even he not good as mangini and by the way Mp and MM they both are friend I just can't wait to see mangini and portnoy play together on this monster drum set like they did on 2004 tour
I love Labrie's voice in the studio, but live it is unbearable. Even the great Freddie Mercury had lows live, but Labrie's voice is worthy of analysis.
Labrie is cooked 🫥 I get wanting to be honorable and keep your singer and have his back, but this is just embarrassing for the entire band in my opinion
I think he is fine in this song. He obviously doesn’t have the high note anymore… but his voice sounds much better than in the previous tour. He have to find the best solutions to perform this old song with his actual range.
@@SkiFiX it’s not just that. his vocal tone is severely suffering and not only is he not able to hit the high notes. He’s incredibly pitchy on the notes that he can hit. I’m not sure if people just don’t notice or what but especially coming from somebody who has a musically trained ear. This is very hard to watch
It is sad but true! Unfortunately, even trying to find different melodies, he's out of tune 50% of the time... I love this band, but he definitely not prepared as the rest of the band is! :/ And I'm not talking about reaching high notes... It's just a matter of singing on tune!
@@nickplentzas5750 He was always pitchy… even in the past. He was never a singer with the perfect pitch… the difference is that now he has a lower range and he cannot perform the old songs without a lot of changes. But the voice sounds powerful and this is the first concert of the tour. He can do better in the next days…
