This solo is placed at the end of the song Lie on the album Awake, but it's actually a reprise from The Mirror. In fact they usually play it live at the end of both songs.
I remember when I was one of a few people in high school that knew about this band. Nobody cared about them then except for musicians. Well, there were some people that thought Pull Me Under was a cool song and thought the band was a one hit wonder. Now that the internet is not just a technological dream but a way of life, these guys have finally been exposed all over the world to music lovers everywhere and they are getting the recognition they deserve.
Oh wow, when I watched it, that riff right at the beginning I was sure that it was the mirror, but I just had a listen and you're right, just before the solo at the end of Lie he does a similar riff to the intro riff to the mirror!
yeah, actually the mirror and lie are the antecedent of Mike s 12 step suite wich talks about his issues with alcohol´....both songs are kind of the base for that suite...and yeap, both complete each other perfectly...
On the Train of Thought tour, they did The Mirror/The Mirror (reprise) (which is the end part of Lie) as a single song. Look it up. So everybody's half right, basically.
yea him falling down is true there is video for it on you tube...it was on only a matter time when labrie came in and the were singing it from the first record and so yea he did fall down while playing that and it was a bad trip man....
The DVD of them in Tokyo around '91 (or '92, I can't remember) is funny to watch because it's almost like watching a different band. Even Myung is jumping around like crazy. I'm all right with DT not moving around so much because their music kicks ass. Too much movement would probably be sensory overload.
yeah i respect your opinion, i personally disagree but i can see why you would think he is pretentious, i sort of agree with that but i still enjoy his music. Dont get me wrong i also really really like gilbert.
why do people talk shit on how he plays his guitar??? hhahah,, man i wish i could fucking play like him standing, sitting, moving jumping or however the fuck,,what a bunch of buzz kills...
lol nice one kungfuman82 i feel the same way there they dint need to be running round they are just as exiting when they are just playing what they do best!
same way with keyboard i find myself playing it better if i have the exact sound he uses, the distortion organ in erotomania? pretty much dead on, the pad/synth pad in the beginning of this video is pretty much the same sound too.
Vai Does NOT jump all over the place, he walks around. The reason bands jump around is because their music is way too easy to play, and they need to make the crowd excited with their jumping and spinning and headbanbing (watch for stupid 2-second glimpses of hot chicks every half a minute). Petrucci's passages are very hard, so are Vai's, so they concentrate on their music.
For this solo at least he has the excuse of having to stick around next to the wah pedal, but yes dt have become drastically less animated since the mid 90s.
I hate how he just stands there when he plays his solos now with his leg up on the monitor now. he needs to watch a steve vai video. vai jumps all over the place
