Dream Theater - Pull Me Under - Dreamsonic 2023 - Orlando 

The vocals in this band are way too demanding for this guy at this point in his career. He should just pack it in. I feel bad for the guy, but it's just not gonna happen.

The band knows this and I suspect something will happen sooner than later.

Agreed, I went to my first DT show in the Octavarium tour and everyone was like "LaBrie is back" and he fuckin nailed the entire set, he needs to take better care of his voice and find a good vocal coach to help him adapt to the changes that he had in his voice over the years and to find a better way to perform live especially. Wouldn't hurt him to start some cardio to improve his breathing and overall help his singing live too

I understand that Mike and James had a falling out over the way Mike criticized his vocals but in the end that pushed him to fix it. I'm hoping with Portnoy back, he might "diplomatically" find a way to tell LaBrie to bring back the vocal coach.

The problem is vocal fatigue. The Man is not in 20s anymore. He needs a rest an the band needs to drop the octave... would sound way better than forced attempts at hitting high notes.

Petrucci has famously said that he has zero vocals in his in-ears. So my guess is they will tune James out completely while the audience just has to deal with it.

Hahaha I actually fell for that and went to 3:00 and holy smoke. I thought maybe he actually did sound better because of the recent videos I’ve viewed he sounds horrendous. Hes not got it anymore

@@steve-o-is-awesome2000 yeah he's really in need of retirement. It happens to 99% of all singers, the problem is most of them keep at it like they still have it when they clearly don't. I'm not sure who would be a good fit to replace him... I used to think Sebastian Bach would work well. But sadly he too is done for.

@@mauriciofonseca2079 If i remember correctly, he nearly died, and the damage to his vocal cords was so bad, that his ability to speak was in question. So the fact that he was a good singer for many years afterward is very impressive. However, I do agree with everyone; this is rough.

He is a old man. His voice is not same a few years ago. He not sing, he is screaming!! It's a pity!😢

This is really bad for such a talented band. We all get old and for singers, the voice is their instrument that typically fails before all others. Maybe only sing what’s in your range or retire.

I don't understand, they fire the drummer? Meanwhile, the singer can't sing at all anymore. I feel bad for the guy cause there's nothing you can do about it once your voice goes, I think that's just it.

It was definitely his final tour with him @btristin01 . But not the final show. DT still had a few months of DreamSonic shows left at this point

Man I go back in my head to 2005 and he was great the night I saw him. Grateful as that was after the food poisoning ordeal and his vocal damage, but he had a really good night overall when I saw him on Gigantour. If Dream Theater wants to blow out someone else's voice me and a thousand other fans with pipes will happily do live karaoke with them for no money until it wears out, I'll go for it every single time, kill it in a year for all I care it'd be the best year 🤣how can I talk them into pulling a Journey? (Or maybe downtuning the live sets if they don't want a replacement! Poor James man)

I love DT been a fan since 1992, but your description of Barney from the simpsons singing is spot on. This has been brewing for quite some time. Never seen it this bad though. Yikes.

I have seen DT three times in Japan and I agree with you.

Dude, I feel very bad going back through the archival footage and comparing how James was approaching parity to the rest of the band sonically from 91-95 versus how he sings now. You can see why he was chosen based on the live performances from that era. It's been a slow and miserable decline since then.

He has always been a little pitchy live, but he was at one time nevertheless one of the more talented singers in metal with some really awesome vocal performances in the '90s especially, and even today he can turn in some impressive work in the studio with time to rest and capture that right take - his work with Arjen Lucassen has been great in the last few years. He was pretty on when I saw them in 2005, but I wouldn't go to a Dream Theater show today expecting vocals excellence - his instrument has taken the most wear out of any of the group, by far.

Maybe Portnoy is being brought in to do the firing. This video is painful and it's been this way for decades so much that I would never let anyone hear a live album if they asked about DT. It's sad but true as someone famous once said. Having said that I saw DT love in early 2020 and 2022 and the vocals were OK although I suspected tracks were used. I could hear octave doubled parts at times but I didn't notice bad lip syncing.

That was something I noticed about MM as well. Remember the fire he played with for the audition? Well he did not play that way after he got in the band.

​@@ClifftopTragedyI had that thought as well. I imagined MP saying I will come back on the condition that we will have to replace James. I saw them earlier last year and he sounded just like this the entire show. It was horrendous and I can't believe they tour with him sounding like that. Why would Mike want to come back to that? We'll see how it all pans out.

Pretty sure this was his last tour with the group but not the last show. The last Dreamsonic show was in late July.

É cara, o tempo é cruel com todos... O certo era os caras baixarem um pouco o tom das músicas. Os fãs entenderiam. Até o Metallica toca meio tom abaixo pra ajudar o vocalista. DT devia abaixar 1 tom pelo menos.

Ciao Andrea, si critica perché non é più oggettivamente in grado di cantare le sue canzoni. Parliamo della prog metal band più mainstream al mondo (a ragione o no) oltre al fatto che dai, sii sincero, musicalmente sono tutti ancora validissimi, si meritano questo? A me dispiace molto, ma é arrivato il tempo di lasciare spazio a una voce fresca.

Si critica perché il suo ostentare sempre l'ha portato a queste conseguenze, temo irreparabili.

This concert was filmed back in June; Mike Mangini was the drummer at the time.

And sadly no more. They will be a much bigger band with Portnoy back. This to me was about business. Not ability. Because Portnoy, as good as his will never be at the ability of Mangini. That being said, I wish the band well.
