I went to this show in Los Angeles. I came as a Dream Theater fan, but left as a Devin Townsend fan as well. Dude was amazing and hearing that power on this song was icing on the cake.
You should check out the video of Devin's rendition of his own song Kingdom at EMGtv (which I'm sure you've already watched and are unable to answer because you're still struggling to pick up your jaw from the floor)
Kevin James Labrie has aged badly in his voice. And he has caused so much BS in Dream Theater, I wouldn’t mind seeing him hit retirement. Let the boys (Petrucci, Portnoy, and Myung) run the show again, as it should be. FYI, LONG TIME Dream Theater fan since the first album. I was there for the music, and vocals weren’t key. God, You choose to not let me play like Petrucci, but I get it. (sobbing into my guitar strings) LOL
Petrucci just has the complete toolkit.. Absolutely blazing proficiency, and the most epic soaring feel.. I'm forever in awe when I see him live (11 times now).
What a show!!! I was blessed to be able to be there that night. AAL was a great opener. Devin Townsend was unbelievable...what an entertainer! And DT was awesome as always!!! 🤘 🤘
Absolutely adore this version of the song. Unlike some commenters here, I love how James sounds live (saw them in February of this year, in 2020 just before the pandemic, and 2017 before that), but it is really cool to hear Devin sing some of the lines. Very awesome!
@@pikchslail550 Yeah, lockdown was kind of a shock to the system. I saw them on their first show in the Eventim Apollo (they played two night so that they had extra footage and audio for Distant Memories). That was the last live experience I had for years. A shame, but tbh it was an excellent show.
Just so epic, love the contrast in the voices. It’s just so good!! Both Labrie and Devin singing together is something I never knew I needed in my life. Wish they do more stuff like this.
It would be too much power and too much awesome in too small of a space...our planet would implode, causing a massive black hole that would grow and grow and start to reverse the Big Bang.
It’s not all about the nice piece they put together… but the joy they spent with each other it seems .. yes they should’ve done more collab 👏🏾👏🏾👍👍🤘🏾 See you guys together sometime again #staysafe❤
I was lucky enough to be there for this and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I appreciate you recording the whole thing so I can relive it!
What a difference it makes to be that much closer to the stage....on the same night we sat right in front of the soundboard techs and all we heard all night was drumset from all three bands...people around us were leaving because the sound was so badly managed.
Honestly, the last few years dream theatre has not had the best live mix. Their FOH engineer is an old dude and probably has lost hearing. Mix probably sounds great to him but to a young guy like me it was just muddy. Hopefully they get a newer, younger FOH engineer soon and their mix can improve.
I thank you profusely for this video. After watching it and missing seeing the show I’ve vowed to see things I want to see whenever possible. Everyone in this is incredible and I’m extremely mad at myself for not seeing this tour live.
Everything I’ve seen with devin and tosin from this tour seems like those two guys really get along well. Imagine a project with those two…I might need a cigarette.
Hey John what about if we get Tosin to come out and play guitar with you? John: that would be really cool Hey James what about if we get Devin to come out and sing with you? James: *profuse sweating*
What the hell are people talking about with JLB being finished? The high part after the solo was bang on. Also, holy shit the Townsend rendition of the bridge is outstanding.
It doesn't sound mean, just different styles. Personally for me Labrie in the 90s was the absolute perfect singer for DT, but nowadays his talent level is just no where close to the others on stage because his voice is just completely shot.
