This guitar solo is heart touching, insane, technical, masterclass, furious, and perfect, you can hear that his guitar is crying. The best guitar solo of all time. Petrucci is born to play guitar
I was almost ready to shut this one off, honestly. Your markers are correct. At "The Realization" I said 'holy shit, she's getting it'. At "It begins to hit", I wiped the tears from my eyes and pointed at the monitor with both index fingers and said 'ahh HAHHH, GOTCHA!'. Sweetheart, if you continue to do this, you have to track up the lyrics, as well and do NOT read ahead because some songs (if they're written right) will give you true insight and fill in what the music doesn't.
I honestly can't believe it took her so long to realized. My english listening skill is not really good, but even I can tell this song is about a father and son relationship at first listening. It's literally on the first part of the lyrics ("A young boy and his father, an idol and best friend")
That's right you will never understand the lyrics without understand the origin of it. When my dad dies, Portnoy wrote this song 3 months later, It makes me cry like a baby when a I listen to it!
Mike Portnoy, the drummer, wrote this song for his father who was dying of cancer. Luckily, there is a version where Mike is singing, and you can definitely hear the soul in his voice, much better than LaBrie's. It was the final song Mike wrote for the band before leaving not long after her father had passed away. This was his Magnum Opus. He played the hell out of the drums, and then John Petrucci(the guitarist) knocked the song out of the park with the ending solo.
mi papa fallecio en 1990 cuando tenia 10 años, desde q escuche esta cancion pro primera vez la reaccion a sido siempre la misma, lagrimas, esta cancion es todo lo q esta bien
This was written by the drummer, Mike Portnoy, about his father who was dying of cancer. He presented the song at his father's deathbed and he got share his appreciation for him. They both shared tears over it. The song was also played at his father's funeral.
Dream Theater : Breaking all Illusions, or The Shattered Fortress. Both from Breaking the fourth Wall live concert. Keep the dream alive and let DT touch your soul!
Gm my beautiful Russian friend. Nice song. Relaxing, love the guitar. The sounds of acoustics, piano.. then it goes mad wild..solo guitar, pounding of drums, remember days of yesterdays.. funny how they all fade away and becomes a distance memory... Dream theater were very underrated. When I was growing up ppl say they sucked. Well they dont know what good music is about. Thank you for your reaction. As usual you didn't disappoint. And still being the best person I know who reacts differently.. well be safe out there my friend...
Was beautiful the vocal arrangement you did in the background! I don´t know if it's possible because of copyright, but it will be amazing to see a full "cover" of this song with your voice, and i will be glad to hear it! Greetings from Mexico!
@@daphenomenalz4100 That 'underrated' bandwagon just keeps chugging along doesn't it? It's like Simon Cowell is out there telling everyone their career is shit after 40+ years :) lol
A lot of people were commenting correctly, this was for the drummer, Mike Portnoy’s father and his father had been sick and passed away around the time this album was recorded... Mike Portnoy’s mother tragically passed away in a plane crash when he was young, and his family was tighter because of it. That’s what makes this song so sad...and happy at the same time.... They also wrote the song A Change Of Seasons mostly about his mother and about getting older, etc.
Just found your reaction. I love your accent! You have very good musical instincts as you harmonized with the song. Great reaction! Hope you try more Dream Theater.
you summed it up really well at the end there. the whole song the singer is talking and telling a story, but the guitar solo sent the actual message much more effectively without words.
Mi padre falleció hace un mes y aunque ya conocía la canción para mi ha cobrado un gran sentido,no puedo escucharla sin llorar aún así es una de mis canciones favoritas junto a "Spirit carries on "
Hey, You got it, that song was written by Mike Portnoy (former drummer of the band) for his father who passed away shortly before they recorded this album The acoustic guitar on the intro always made me think of "still got the blues" by Gary Moore personally ....
Liked your Reaction.. Dream Theater is the most talented band ever.. ( its not everyone’s band cuz they make Progressive music but everyone respects and accept their talent and what they have done for Music),.. and the Guitarist JOHN PETRUCCI is a God.. that solo is one of the best in music history.. thanx for sharing and keep rocking 🌸
People forget the level of emotion that they can actually put into these tracks and although I'm new cause I really am mostly a prog fan outside of a few outliers. It really showed in her reaction and she caught on right away at the end what it was about. Plus I love her jacket and she has an amazing voice too
Nice vocal improvisation there. Actually the song was written as a tribute by Mike Portnoy for his father “before” he passed away from battling cancer. They are a very theatrical band, so yes I get what you mean about the feel of some sections in their the songs.
Yes John petrucci is a great guitar player the drums 👌 good rock 🎸 bass 🔊 vocals all mixed into won perfect song 🎵 the way these guys play is magical the power in these stories into the music 🎶 great power cords on the guitar solos i have seen dreamtheather live on stage a while back 😀
Yeah, The Best Of Times is a The Best Of Solo by John Petrucci.. the most powerfull of emotions & soul, and technically.. next, *Illumination Theory - Live Boston Opera House* it will blow your mind !!!
BREAKING ALL..., OUTCRY, I. THEORY, LIES, PULL ME..., TAKE THE TIME, ALL OF METROPOLIS 2, LINES IN THE SAND... PETRUCCI (SUSPENDED ANIMATION), JORDAN RUDESS (CDS), LIQUID TENSION, G3 (PETRUCCI, VAI, SATRIANI), (PETRUCCI, SATRIANI, MORSE), AND MUCH MORE. ¡THANK U I YOU!
OTHERS GREATS SOLOS OF JOHN: UNDER A GLASS MOON, LINES IN THE SAND, BREAKING ALL ILLUSIONS, ILLUMINATION THEORY, HOLLOW (LIVE AT BUDOKAN), THE SPIRIT CARRIES ON...
I am sure you have a special talent to make passionate about everything, looking at your eyes i can feel your passion , listening to your stories i feel the details you notice about every song you can hear to make it yours inside! I started smiling about mushrooms and others crazy boyfriends of the past ( not asshole this time i hope ) , and i ended it up getting interested to listen Dream Theatre with you , a group that i dont like at all i find it boring and long-winded ! But You are really good at making emotions alive telling stories , i think the luckiest person will be' your daughter who has a Mom who tells so many things and emotions 🖤
Thank you Andrea, you make me to think about reaction to Britney) ☮️ I didn’t know about DT much before, but I understand why ppl love them, although I always pay attention to voice of singer, and I feel that it’s too soft for me. 🤷🏻♀️
@@IYOU yes i agree DT i dont like for style sound and voice of the singer ...maybe it would be' nice for me a reaction to Britney 😂! Several songs are very pretty and i guess you would be' able to make it pleasant also to ppl standing here ! Specially usefull for your workout that i'm going to see now , because the streaming is about 7 in the morning italy, i cant watch it in direct 😥
This masterpiece of a song should be heard with headphones on otherwise i like your reaction it is exactly like my own every time i hear it please do more Dream Theater but with headphones on you will get a better sound from it.
You should really listen to something on the new album. Nothing to progressive but their song writing has improved so much over the years. Like “At Wits End” off of “Distance Over Time”
The Best of Times is the fifth song on Dream Theater's 10th studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings. A tender song written by Mike Portnoy for his dad, as he was dying of cancer. Celebrates Portnoy's relationship with his father. A version featuring Portnoy on vocals can be found on the Wither EP, and was played to Howard Portnoy on his hospital bed and at his funeral. It has not been played live yet as it was too emotional for Portnoy. Due to the personal nature of the song, it is unlikely to be played live without Portnoy. John Petrucci recorded this song using a 6-string guitar in standard tuning (E-A-D-G-B-E).
Thanks for your reaction to this amazing song! Dream Theater was always my favorite band until Devin Townsend came into my life! Please react to Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall)!
Beautiful woman and beautiful reaction dream theater best band ever. Please listen to the spirit carries on its all about feelings really wish to see your reaction on that song.
Hello dear! Yes the song is very personal, not for his mother just for his father this is a litle history about mike portnoy the dream theater creator and his father in life! He was so smashed about his death and this song is a very inspired deep feeling as a tribute for his father! This song makes me cry remembering my father and his departure of this world!
That solo at the end - John Petrucci is one of the best, no doubt about it! If you'd like there's a 16-year-old girl from France called "Tina S" on RU-vid that plays that, if you want to see how it's done. But there's nothing quite like Dream Theater - amazing songs and instrumentals. If you want to hear a song by the same writer about his mother, listen to "A Change of Seasons". Warning, it's twice as long as this song, but absolutely amazing.
There are a number of different directions one could go when recommending other DT songs. And, I think I'll leave that to others. Instead, I'm going to go in a slightly different direction. Another heart-tugger. Rush. "The Garden" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsBNzf5JlZA.html Of the 167 (or so) Rush tunes, this is the only one that I consistently recommend. It's the last song on their last album. And, it just works.
That song is too powerful lol, I definitely cried the first time I heard it, and a few times after that 👀 Your harmonizing was impressive. Normally I would just wanna hear the song but I actually liked hearing you sing along.
First of all, you're very cute!! Second, loved the video very much, your reaction was so genuine, totally loved it. You definitely should react to "The Spirit Carries On" by them. Such a great song. Such a great Guitar solo. The Outro solo for The Best Of Times is so amazing and melodic, but the solo for The Spirit Carries On is even more melodic! I'm talking about the main solo of The Spirit Carries On, there is also an outro solo which is also amazing
