Yes they've had great stuff since 1994 of course, but wow I sure love "Awake". Still remember holding the CD in my hand, seeing the guys in there, thinking "it just won't be the same anymore with Kevin gone." They're an amazing band, but it really hasn't been the same since he's left.
***** A prick? Many people who have met him (including myself)can attest to the exact opposite. Without a doubt one of the most down to earth and humble human beings I've ever met. "Kevin's song" or not, it's a Dream Theater song. When you write a song for a band, you surrender that song to the band, whether you're still part of that band or not. What better way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Awake than to play a song from that album they've not played?
I really miss Kevin. Jordan contributes a lot, too, but Kevin had such a different style and was so forceful that he tortured out a different sound from the band. Everything he's done since in Fate's Warning, Chroma Key and OSI has been really good, thankfully.
Yeah, the same to me when in Mexico City, I was happily listening to that song and I was surprised that they were playing it and then that solo came, it made me really sad that I coudn't enjoy the rest of the concert properly since it is one of my very favorite songs of all time...
Nope, well, a bit Trial of Tears and well, I don't like that much SFAM but I think I could have enjoyed it more, it was like that case when you paint a moustache to a famous painting you know, so well, that's why, in my opinion.
regardless of the performances authenticity to the recorded track, its still pretty damn good. they had to gear it up a bit more for live performance so it isnt to out of place from the rest of the set
Wow! It had become almost legend among us fans that Dream Theater would *NEVER* play 'Space-Dye' live, or without Kevin on stage. Wouldn't it be great if Kevin did come on...
***** Kevin's the one who left, that's not the rest of the band's fault lol it's like saying Mike Portnoy left the band, let's not play a single song we released in the last 25 years haha
An interesting choice although tonight James was flat as hell. Kinda boring as it is on the album. John's solo saves it somewhat. So many other tunes could have fill this almost 8 minutes. How about tossing in Raise the Knife.
