Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher's Scream! I'm really happy that you enjoyed it. Scream as the first Dreamcatcher MV that I saw back in late 2020, and I've been a massive fan since. I'll try to provide some context and answer some of your questions. This may be a bit long, so I apologize in advance. Dreamcatcher is a 7-member girl group from South Korea. They're known as the "face of rock in Kpop" and the "Dark Angels of Kpop". They have a very unique musical style and always incorporate rock & metal instrumentals in their title tracks. Their B-sides though span dozens of genres & sub-genres ranging from EDM, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Trap, Pop, and much more. They have, in my opinion, the best and most diverse discography of any group I've ever come across. Scream and Vision (since you mentioned it) are good indicators of the type of musical style that Dreamcatcher release as title tracks, while both songs represent the type of quality that can be found throughout their entire discography. You may see references to "Minx" in comments, including my own. Minx was a 5-member girl group that was comprised of 5 of the 7 members of Dreamcatcher. They were a more traditional sounding k-pop group that wasn't successful, but instead of their company dropping them, they decided to try something different, and Dreamcatcher was born. They are a very lore/concept heavy group who, to date, have 3 main storylines and several one-off stories. Those 3 storylines are. The Nightmare Series - This was Dreamcatcher's debut storyline, and the songs are heavily influenced by J-rock. The lyrical content of the songs addresses the fears or nightmares that idols and people experience in life. Societal expectations, loneliness, feeling directionless, depression, suicide, and much more. The MV's tell a story of how the girls became cursed as Nightmares and their journey to try and break free of the Nightmare world. Personally, I also think the Nightmare series serves as a mirror for the girls own journey from Minx to Dreamcatcher. All of the fear and pain that comes from pouring your heart into something and then failing at it had to have been traumatic. Then to completely re-invent yourself so you can try again, all the while knowing that it probably won't work. For a group to re-debut, especially with all the same members, almost never happens. Let alone with a concept that’s so outside of the mainstream. A Rock/Horror concept was unheard of and only recently have other groups in K-Pop started to come out with similar concepts. The Dystopia Series - This is their second storyline, and it addresses online bullying, hate speech, calling out haters and telling them to shut their boca (mouth), and the realization that social media is just a sweet lie covering up a darker (dystopian) reality. This trilogy came out not long after several idols committed suicide due to online bullying and hate comments and I feel pretty confident that its creation was at least partially influenced by those events. Boca follows Scream in the storyline, and the song is literally Dreamcatcher telling haters to shut their mouths or they'll do it for them. The Apocalypse Series Their newest storyline is the Apocalypse Trilogy. This trilogy was completed in May with the release of Bonvoyage. This trilogy seems to be addressing the more existential treats that we face as humanity with the first song, Maison, being a cry for help and a call to action on Climate Change. To hold those responsible for the damage they are causing to our planet and to stop pretending that everything is okay. The second song in this trilogy, Vision, seems to be a challenge to stand for what you believe in. To do the work necessary to bring about a brighter future. So that we can see the Vision that Dreamcatcher has of a better world. The members, in order of age, are. Jiu | Leader, Visual, Lead dancer, Lead vocalist - She's the one with Purple Hair Sua | Main Dancer, Lead rapper, sub vocalist - She's the one with the sword. Siyeon | Main vocalist - She's the one who's face you paused on because it was such a beautiful shot. Handong | Vocalist & Chinese member - She was absent for Scream & Boca eras as she was In China for Youth with You, a Chinese idol reality show. She got stuck there during Covid lockdowns. Yoohyeon | Lead vocal - She was the second person to sing. Blond Hair Dami | Main rapper, lead dancer, vocalist - She has the deeper rap voice. She does a good bit of singing in their B-sides and has a very light and airy singing voice. Gahyeon | Lead rapper, vocalist. - She was the one who started the second verse with the Mask. If you'd like some more recommendations, then go ahead and finish out the Dystopia trilogy with Boca & Odd Eye next. After that, you can pick any point in their discography to go next but I would recommend just starting at the beginning. They've been releasing amazing music since their debut. Also, they just performed Scream, Boca, & Bonvoyage at K-Con Saudia Arabia yesterday. The K-Con official channel has their performances available for viewing. I'm not sure if you can react to them but they're definitely worth checking out. I hope you decide to check out more of their work. They're fantastic artists and even more amazing individuals. Enjoy!

This is truly incredible. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information with you. You're amazing!! It's such a shame that we didn't get to see Handong in this one. Hopefully we'll recognise her in the next video. It's astounding to realise just how deep the storylines, imagery, references and connectivity between the songs is for this group. It seems like they're adding what they're experiencing, passionate and concerned about to their songs, which makes sense when you listen to how powerful and compelling the music is. It seems from yours (and a few others') recommendations that Boca is the best next track for us, so we'll bring that to the top of the list. From your description of it, we're really excited to see what energy and power they bring to the track Thank you again for the fantastically helpful information!

Dreamcatcher are best known for being intense and powerful, but they're so talented they're great at the ballads you'll eventually discover, as well as relaxing, energizing, and plain funny songs they've done it all in b-sides. Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo are both groups that started at the bottom with unconventional idol looks and sound with criticism they'll never make it. Then used their mountains of talent and were never afraid to show their loud, wierd, hilarious, positive, genuine personalities to earn all their fans and success. Top tier in the business.

Oh yeah, and Siyeon 8:52 has lots of 1 shots like that over the years of videos, because how can they not? The most recent song Bon Voyage all the members got their shots like this which rightly blew people away (but Siyeon's is still the coolest).

@@alongfortheridereacts Boca is another iconic song/video and the part 2 to Scream's TO BE CONTINUED. (The Dystopia trilogy Scream, Boca, Odd Eye about bullying, hate comments, and online respectively). The only negative is one member, Handong, got stuck outside Korea during travel restrictions in 2020 and couldn't be part of the HUGE output of content they produced during that time. Handong had a key role in making Deja Vu one of their most popular songs ever, and they welcomed her return by making her the star of their self-produced m/v for b-side Poison Love If you planned on Vision next she's in everything after 2020 so you can see/hear her for the first time there too.

Scream is part 1 of Dreamcatcher's Dystopia Trilogy. Part 2 is 'BOCA', part 3 is 'Odd Eye'. There is a rough past, present and future theme also running through these three songs. Check 'em out! ❤🖤

@@alongfortheridereacts To go along with the past, present, future themes there is also a hear no evil (Scream), speak no evil (Boca) and see no evil (Odd Eye) theme as well. As you dig deeper into Dreamcatcher you'll discover just how amazing and creative their team and company are. Most of their MV's have more than one layer to them. For example, this video and song are about hate speech, bullying and cyber bullying. But if you pay close attention you'll see references to old time witch hunts (hence the 'past' reference Tracey mentioned) mixed in, such as people trying to flee, one member standing in the center as the others circle her, pointing at her, and so on. The reference makes sense when you consider that cyber bullying hate trains can very often feel like a modern day witch hunt.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

😂😂😂 Reacting to DC's music is one thing, replying to dedicated fans (InSomnias) is totally different experience... We may lack in size of Fandom, but I don't think anyone can match the passion of InSomnias... As you have already experienced, the amount of time and effort to welcome you to the Dreamworld with such details let you know that somewhere in the world, InSomnias are smiling to see yet another discovering Dreamcatcher for the first time... Although already mentioned by others, UK subtitles in few of DC songs really didn't relay the true meaning and intentions... Going against the mainstream style was already hard enough, sticking to what they believe in regardless of public opinions really earned my respect...with success of BTS and Blackpink worldwide, so many groups are created just to make the "scene" and sole purpose of financial gains... I'm sure Dreamcatcher Company wants to make much money as possible as well, but you can feel that they want to make sure their music and message come first... Also another uncommon fact... All members have re-signed with the company, which is pretty rare in K-POP world... Some groups stay together with members sign with different agencies...after initial contract, not too many group/members re-sign with original company... Seeing DC's interactions with staff members behind the scene show how much these ladies are taken care of and loved...true family... Thanks and welcome!!!

Oh wow, you are so right! InSomnia has really shown up in support of this group!! It's incredible :-) We've learnt out lesson about the subtitles... hopefully we'll get a better handle on the message on the next track! That's a really interesting point that they're re-signed with the same company. That's a really good sign that they're well taken care of and that they love and respect the people they work with. I love that! Thank you so much for the warm welcome... we can't wait to dive deeper

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! Honestly, I've only been a fan for about a year but as I went through their discography I just feel they've gotten better and better - their most recent title track, "BONVOYAGE," is actually my favorite. Starting off with "Scream" is a good starting point as I feel like that's where a lot of people come in. Next should be "Boca," followed by "Odd Eye" to finish out this trilogy. From there you could continue on with their following trilogy (which is comprised of the songs "MAISON," "VISION," and ended just this year with "BONVOYAGE") or start from the beginning with the song "Chase Me" and follow their releases chronologically from there. They also have some other main songs that don't fit into their storyline schemes such as "Deja Vu" and "R.o.S.E. Blue" (both video game collaborations), "BEcause" (a "summer" song), and their fan songs: "Full Moon," "Over the Sky," and "Reason." And that's really just scratching the surface. Others have already mentioned, but there is one member missing from this video/song - Handong - who's represented here by the individual in the mask. She's also missing from the following video/song, "Boca." She had gone home to China to perform in a Chinese idol elimination show, but was stuck there due to the pandemic. She came back in time to finish out the trilogy though and has been with us ever since.

Dreamcatcher is the best group you can ever find. They are 7 strong vocalists (yes even the rappers can sing very well) and they all have proven they can rap also with many covers. However 3 will rap usually, and they are Dami, Gahyeon & SuA. Not sure if you notice, they have been taking turns singing each other's lines as they are all capable of belting or singing high notes. In fact, in a high note competition, the 2 rappers Sua (1st) & Dami (2nd) had won xD

Greetings AFTR, welcome to the dreamworld. As you may have already noticed, we InSomnia are an enthusiastic bunch, always happy to welcome new reactors and more then willing to -drag- help them into the Dreamcatcher rabbit hole. Glad you already noticed their incredible vocals, visuals and powerful choreography. They take it another step up in their next title track 'Boca'. When you start do delve deeper into Dreamcatcher (and I deliberately say 'when', not 'if') you will surely also notice their versatility. While all their title-tracks incorporate the rock sound that has become their signature sound, their b-sides are just as good (because Talent!) but cover many different genres from beautiful ballads, reggae, jazz, soul and EDM, to straight up metal. And yes, they absolutely shine with a live band. Another reason why their fanbase is as dedicated as is it, are the members personalities. In an industry that can rely heavily on popularity, trends and image, Dreamcatcher have always been unapologetically their authentic selves with the support of their company. And their authentic selves are hilarious. Absolute professionals on stage, absolute agents of chaos off stage, which has made them much loved guests at variety shows. In short: Dreamcatcher, you come for the music, you stay for the members.

Cause in every Dreamcatcher's concerts, there would be likely we see a lot of kind or type peoples... We may see some swag hiphopers, some vicious metalheads, some trendy Pop Culture, some extravagant emo, etc We also may see girls and boys, men and women, grandmas and grandpas... This only be like that cause Dreamcatcher's discography are one of the most diversed in genre... They known for their genre bending, genre mixing, or genre fusion... You may find pop, rock, metal, edm, jazz, reggae, city pop, trap, and more genres in their discography... We know that all their title tracks are infused with rock/metal, but their b-sides are widely spread according tp the genre... That's why every people would maybe have their own preference song regardless it is a title track or a b-side... The UK English subtitles are badly translated. I don't know if that's the case for other songs, but I always use American English. Dreamcatcher has seven members, but Handong (Chinese member) was stuck in China because of the Covid epidemic when this album was made. Her place was taken by one of the choreographers wearing a mask. Dami is the main rapper while Gahyeon and Sua rap in some of their songs. Dami has the deep voice, Gahyeon was holding the mask, and Sua had the big sword. The next song in the trilogy is Boca and after that is Odd Eye. The trilogy is about cyberbullying and it's tragic results, which in South Korea includes the suicides of high profile Kpop Idols. Boca specifically references the loss of two beautiful young women who were tormented online and ended their lives. Boca is Spanish for mouth.

Here is some context to better understand the video: Dystopia Trilogy: This trilogy talks about Cyberbullying and the power of language and how it can hurt someone if used in a negative way. It portrays their attempt at facing the Dystopian reality that is hidden in the world of social media. The center of the story is the tree of language that is turning black due to negativism after the curse of the evil language was released (depicted as opening Pandora's box in Scream) and the light provided by positive words fade out. The order of the title tracks is: Scream (Hear no Evil) - happening in the Past - Fantasy vibes Boca (Speak no Evil - Boca is the Spanish word for mouth) - Present timeline Odd Eye (See no Evil) - Futuristic vibes M/V: The dancer with the mask on is reserving the spot for Handong. (stuck in China due to CoVid) First you mostly see the members wearing white, that is their pure uncorrupted form and they gradually take on the black outfit after waking up to new world of hatred. The masks otherwise represent anonymity provided by social media. 8:18 is when Gahyeon breaks the container of the curse and negativism starts spreading (Explosion around the tree) It is also shown that this has happened some time in the past and negativism is ever since part of our society. (8:20 the ancient texts light up) 8:26 they point fingers at her for doing it. Similar to their other M/Vs like Deja Vu the storytelling is not linear. Anyway in Scream the members are already wearing black but still asleep at the beginning 2:28. ("My covered eyes are stained with blood", use the US subtitle as it is better) 4:13 shows the loss of the white form. There is even a transitioning outfit with JiU with White on top of black 4:16. The purple fog with the evil words 3:48 is the curse basically, the scenes with purple with black outfit are the corrupted areas. We see how the spreading works in the bridge when Siyeon is still wearing white 8:33 while the other six members are already in black and around the now corrupted tree (purple) and they walk away from her wearing some black already and in 8:52 she wakes up wearing black. It is also important to note that one of the important message is how the "Please I don't want to scream" turns into Siyeon eventually singing "I just want to make you scream", meaning that basically negativism corrupts people turning them from victims to perpetrators. 9:30 "Dami: and one by one everyone becomes crazy - again, US subtitle is better". And finally now all of them wearing black walk away. Additional comments to the performance itself: The Choreography of Scream is really hard, worth checking out the dance practice with fix camera for it.

Oh wow! This is amazing. Thank you so much!! The concept and the execution of it are so much deeper than we realised. This feels like the kind of video that you could keep coming back to over and over again, each time seeing something new. Now that we've got this context, I'm sure we'll pick up so much more from it. You're amazing for taking the time to do this! You're also not the first person to mention the issue with the subtitles! We had no idea that they could be so different. We'll make sure we're using the better version next time

@@alongfortheridereacts Dreamcatcher tends to go really deep both on the visuals and the lyrics and it is sometimes really hard to translate and understand, especially with lines having double meanings. Their M/V for BEcause is probably the most complex I have seen so far in K-Pop depicting an abusive obsessive love cycle using the concept of doppelgangers based on the horror movie US by Jordan Peele. After 30+ views now most frames make perfect sense but damn. Also the fact that the explanation video for the visuals used in their Nightmare story line is a 33+min video (covering the 6+1 M/Vs) says a lot. The other thing I love about Dreamcatcher is their visual presence and choreography. If you accept a recommendation the following 4 songs are absolutely amazing and unique in K-Pop. Even though those are so called "B" sides, in some way they are even more important to understand the group Dreamcatcher than just the title tracks alone. Not to mention those 4 are in the top 15 for me out of the about 70 songs of Dreamcatcher. And as they are not part of a story line, they can be just part of a single video or watched in no particular order. After finishing the trilogy, next is BOCA then Odd Eye, and before starting the new apocalypse trilogy, maybe you can get to know the members by reacting to the famous "This is..." series by @insomnicsy. The series already has 4 seasons, where each series has vids for each member.

That's such a great idea. We're really excited to dive deeper into the group and this seems like a brilliant way to fully immerse ourselves. Thank you so much for the recommendation

@@alongfortheridereacts Just seconding kazehime45 here. If you do not wish to hear short clips of the title tracks to remain unspoiled prior to reacting to their title tracks then the "This is ..." series is by far the best way to get to know the women. You can pick any one of the four years' sets though all of them are well done and fun. Welcome to the Dreamworld. You are entering a really special rabbit hole should you choose to learn more about the Dark Queens of Kpop, and InSomnia are here to help you, should you wish such guidance.

dreamcatcher \:D/ I think you chose the uk version english cc? some of the translations were a bit wonky lol, no offense to those across the pond :D - prior to mid-2020 all the cc were done by fans. I just find the uk version a bit shall I say interesting :) anyways the dystopia trilogy is in short a critic of the internet's less desirable qualities. scream addresses online hate/bullying. dreamcatcher likes to use pop-culture imagery to help convey their themes so if you see references you have to figure out how they fit. for example the tree(they call it the tree of language) is representing the weirwood tree in game of thrones, how you can access information past and present. from this and other cues, you can interpret it representing the internet with its roots as portals and inner walls filled with text. you can spend days or weeks trying to interpret all the imagery and everyone will interpret it a different way but as dreamcatcher once said, nothing in their videos is by chance. as for their music, dreamcatcher has perhaps the most diverse discography in all of music by a single artist. once you check out enough of their songs, you will realize almost no two songs are similar. they always mix music from different genres and time periods but never in the same way and in many cases never revisiting a sound/genre previously used. it's always a new ride when you listen to a dreamcatcher song.

Thank you so much for this. It's fascinating to see how deep the imagery and references go. We will definitely be exploring more of the group, so we're really looking forward to seeing more of their diversity as well as their obvious talent. Let's see if we can correctly interpret any of the messaging in the next one :-)
