so Dreamcatcher has 7 members they are know as the dark angels of k-pop and also are concidered as the face of rock in k-pop :D they are all amazing in so many ways now for some info (debuted in 2017) members from oldest to youngest JiU - leader, lead vocalist, lead dancer and visual born 17th may 1994 SuA - main dancer, lead rapper and vocalist born 10th august 1994 Siyeon - main vocalist born 1st october 1995 Handong - vocalist born 26th march 1996 (Chinese) Yoohyeon - lead vocalist born 7th january 1997 Dami - main rapper, lead dancer and vocalist born 7th march 1997 Gahyeon - lead rapper, vocalist and maknae (the youngest) born 3rd february 1999 SCREAM (2020) is the time when they really started to grow in popularity they were good before that aswell and had alot of fans but not compared to many other groups at the time and scream was the title track from their first full album wich i concider as one of the best of all time in k-pop its full of really good songs also its the first song from the dystopia trilogy (is about cyber bullying and online hate) (1. scream 2. boca 3. odd eye)(also for those who dont know the difference between a title track and a b-side is a title track is the main song from the album and gets the expensive MV and b-sides is the other song on the album they usally dont get a high budget MV unless their company is filthy rich wich dreamcatcher company is not they are a mid size company) also Handong wasnt there for scream or boca but was back for odd eye DEJA VU (2019) is a song that is made in collaboration whit a mobile game called kings raid thats why the MV got a huge budget and looks like it could be a movie the song is also popular whit insomnia's (the fandom) they also have another collaboration whit kins raid but that is for their anime and the song is called eclipse and is an ost for the anime's 2nd season VISION (2022) is their latest comeback whit their 7th mini album and is the second song from another trilogy they are doing called apocalypse (is about humans ruining the world) and a fun fact after Dami mentioned Jackie Chan in her rap verse Jackie Chan actually started trending on twitter wich i think is a bit funny but anyway this song was released in october REASON (2023) is a fan dedicated song they released on their 6th anniversary on the 13th january friday the 13th by the way and it wasnt a comeback but a stand alone song release its about their struggle to get where they are now and the love and respect they have for insomnia's and say we are the reason they made it so far (i kinda cried a little first time) so that was some info about each song and also you mentioned they changed alot yes they do change their hair every comeback so far they usally do 2 comebacks a year these girls are funny, adorable, cute, chaotic and sometimes dangerous LOL their b-sides are alot of different genres they try to do atleast 3 genres every album and the title tracks always have some rock elements in them im looking forward to your adventure into these 7 amazing girls :D edit: also sorry forgot to use commas and dots

First time listen to Kpop, and you choose Dreamcatcher. What a bold move..

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. Deja Vu is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu. "Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It could be about North Korea as well after all. It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way. So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace. By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well. Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. All in all this is a fantastic release! "Reason" is the fan-song for Dreamcatcher's 6th anniversary. I can't even begin to describe how proud I am of them. They're flexing their rock and vocal muscles, while all three rappers make an appearance. InSomnia might be lifting them up, but they should know, they are also carrying us. Happy 6th anniversary, Dreamcatcher! Can you imagine this song live? With us InSomnia going Whoooo-whoooaaa and them singing over it? 😊 I wouldn't be surprised if the animations were done by a fan, I seem to recognize the style. Whoever did them, they did a great job. I see the book from the Nightmare arc, the mask from Scream, the gun from R.o.S.E Blue, the gagged bust from Boca, the cup from Odd Eye, the hand through the mirror from Good Night and the clock from Piri. Musically, I am in heaven. I'm a metalhead and I love the song. AND THAT RIFF! 🤘🎸 And yes, the song is an absolute anthem!

i will give you some info about the group. dreamcatcher is a 7 memeber girl group JiU the one you liked with the purple hair. she is the leader, lead vocalist and lead dancer she‘s 28. Sua is the main dancer, lead rapper but she does not rap anymore :( and a vocalist she‘s also 28 siyeon is the main vocalist and she‘s 27 handong is a vocalist. she‘s chinese. 26 years old yoohyeon is the lead vocalist. also 26 years old dami is the main rapper, lead dancer and a vocalist. 25 years old gahyeon is the maknae (youngest), lead rapper and a vocalist. she‘s 24 you should check out a guide to know the members more :)

This is not even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Dreamcatcher. They have so many albums and songs released, and you'll struggle to find a bad song. I also recently discovered then about 2 weeks ago, but my my... The Talent, the musicality, the production- I don't think many groups even come close to Dreamcatcher; but in Korea they are still very underrated and overshadowed by average groups from big companies

Well, this is exciting! Came for the Buffy and SPN and got Kpop thrown in too. When you said about no defined lead, that's often the way it works. Kpop groups usually have a leader but not a front person as such. Members often occupy positions such as main and lead vocal, main and lead dancer, rapper and even visual and face of the group (not sure why when they're all flipping gorgeous). And, yes, Kpop groups love to have a different look for every release. I don't know that much about Dreamcatcher as I'm more on the boy group side but I like a few of their songs. My Kpop boy group of choice is Ateez - a group of 8 stunning young men with the most beautiful personalities, cracking music for any mood and a complex, layered storyline. And, although not under the same agency, they just happen to share some of the same music producers as Dreamcatcher. That's if you felt like going further into Kpop. But as you say, "There's no pressure here"! 😆

Man, watching you watch this, especially Reason, their latest fansong, makes me realize how much I just absorbed in these past 13 months since I discovered them. While I do listen to other groups, too, there is no group that feels like them for me. And I don't just mean the music, it's the first time in my life this parasocial relationship thing I heard so much about really kicked in for me. They just seem, and most certainly are, such authentic, lovely people in all their interviews, behind the scenes content and other stuff. Went to their concert in Berlin, never paid that much money for a concert, but it was worth it. You are lucky Dreamcatcher is your gateway group. This is also the first time I am a fandom and overall it's a really likeable bunch of people, from my experience on Reddit and at the concert. Have fun and welcome to the Dreamworld, as we say. (:

Hey, thanks for sharing your first experience! Kpop can be a whole culture of its own. You find a group you vibe with, then learn their names, see their variety + behind the scenes + special content, get to know their personalities, maybe pick a favorite, learn the kpop terms, experience a comeback, the hole can go pretty deep lol. You guessed that behind the scenes stuff was rare but it's actually the opposite, as most groups thrive on being open and accessible to their fans. As I'm sure a lot of people are telling you, DC stands out from the most common mainstream sounds, which is true, but might belie the fact that the genre landscape of kpop is actually pretty diverse. Although DC is many of our favorites, there is a whole industry of talented artists that people with all manner of tastes can vibe with. My recommendation for anyone wanting to really scope out kpop is to just put on a radio station, and see if anything ends up grabbing you. That's how I personally found some of my favorite songs ever, and some of the most admirable artists ever.

She does all kinds of compilation videos, including her "This is..." series. It's three videos each dedicated to each member that compiles all kinds of clips of them under various circumstances that gives a much better view of all of them. She also very recently did a "Road To Fame" video in celebration of their sixth anniversary last month. It gives a brief overview of the group's history, how the members came to join together, and covers some important events.

Interesting to see how people first started to listen kpop from DC, usually people would listen groups like BTS or Blackpink at first BEcause DC's popularity isn't at their level. But I hope you enjoy their music and pls give a lot love for them

"You don't see this behind the scenes as much" In kpop, you do and it's awesome. Kpop bands, artists, and idols are more often than not, very involved with their fans.

If you decide to watch any more, I recommend trying their self made videos. They're very informal and funny, shot backstage while they waited to perform or do interviews. Sahara, Break the Wall, and Poison Love. The purple hair woman you liked in Scream is Jiu (She has pink hair in Vision), She's the oldest member and technically the leader of the group, though as you note they all get plenty of spotlight time.

Yo, props to yours mod! InSomnia really is everywhere haha. I hope you enjoyed it, you won't be disappointed reacting to more but don't feel pressured. Kpop can be very overwhelming at first. I remember seeing one or two videos by other groups and it was too much for me, but then I stumbled upon Scream and that was it. This is my 3rd year as a kpop fan now and I fear that there's no going back. So just be warned, whether Dreamcatcher will be your ults or not, if you decide to get more into this, this won't be the last kpop group you'll react to🤣but for now we'll be happy to recommend other music videos by Dreamcatcher that you can casually enjoy if you'd like. I think I can say that our fandom is mostly chill and a lot of people are international fans who never really got in touch with kpop but were intrigued by Dreamcatcher's style and sound. But there's so much more to kpop than just the music videos, like music shows or the extensive behind the scenes content, so it can be really fun (you need a lot of time to figure everything out though haha)

Young inSomia, They have TONS of Behind The Scenes. They post vlogs on their channel among other stuff. You’ve been watching different eras and so appreciate it. But once you get to know them, you will understand why REASON was so touching to a lot of InSomnias. 😊

Speaking of the most special group in the K-pop scene, both men and women, Dreamcatcher is the only one. Their narrative was also very difficult, but they have been doing it so far.

K-Pop is as wide in styles as Pop. The major difference is it's sang mostly in Korean, it cares a lot of the image, and always include coreo even for soloists working along dancers.

If you wanna react to their older songs, please watch them in order, they have a story! The nightmare arc begins with Chase Me and Goodnight and has a horror vibe, really recommend these. Scream is continued by Boca (an awesome song), and Odd Eye completed this dystopia trilogy. Vision is the second in the apocalypse story, a sequel to Maison. In addition to MV's, they have awesome b-sides, often ballads, and their dance videos, covers and goofy videos are legendary too!

If you're looking for story-heavy MVs, their first two ("Chase Me" and "Good Night") probably have the most obvious/coherent ones. Then maybe "You and I." A trick most new K-pop fans pick up to help them recognise their idols is to pick a member (or at most two) as their "bias" (i.e. favourite) in the group and then learn to recognise that member throughout the group's MVs and other contents. Then once they're comfortable with that, they start learning to recognise the others one by one. It's especially useful for larger groups with more than five members, including Dreamcatcher's seven.

You should definitely watch a guide! Their personalities is one of the best things about Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher is my top favorite group. The struggles they have been through are so heartfelt. The purple hair girl in Scream is the leader named JiU They all do mainly have their positions within the group, few members are in the vocal line (meaning they only do vocals either as the main/lead/or sub vocals), and a few are in the rap line. But even the ones in the rap line can also sing as well. For example: SiYeon (who was the one in the white wig that you saw in the Vision MV), she is the main vocalist, so she is the one hitting all the high notes and usually the one singing the chorus of the song YooHyeon (the one you said looked like a princess in the start of the Deja Vu MV), is a lead vocal, so singing usually after Siyeon or before, also is talented enough to be a main vocalist Sub vocals are usually the ones who are not singing the chorus parts, usually they sing the verses or pre chorus (and they can be anyone in the group) The rappers also have their levels (main/lead/sub), in this case the main rappers name is DaMi (the one with the deeper tone of voice), she does the raps in their songs all of the time. Other rappers are GaHyeon (one who started out that first dance scene in Scream MV) and SuA (the one who had the tiara crown on her head in the Vision MV), they are both considered lead rappers, they dont rap as often, but they do rap when the song needs them. Also they have a main dancer position which is SuA, but of course all of them are great dancers. So TLDR: Each group has a specific role, but can do every role (if that makes sense) Roles are usually: Leader Vocalist (main/lead/sub) Rapper (main/lead/sub) Dancer (main/lead/sub) And the youngest of the group (and yes, that is an actual position in kpop groups)

I bet you would have hard time exploring other group later because you'll be taking the God tier level of Dreamcatcher as your baseline guidance LOL And Mamamoo, (G)-IDLE (I like their more recent work), ITZY (they sound simple but vocally quite stable on live but their dancing skill is incredible but their recent choreographies kinda ahahaha), New Jeans (they sounded quite good and looks pretty soothing for no reason), Lucy Island (their music is so warming but melancholic at the same time), Day6 (I really like some of their songs like 'Zombie'), IU (her songs kinda soothing and she is indeed a great expressive singer!) and many more. Dreamcatcher is kpop in name only they made their career by not sounding like anyone else in kpop (though the last 2 years more groups do a rock song here and there following the path they made). They are ALL vocals and can sing anything from their ballads to Scream live with their powerful choreography, something few idol groups show on a regular basis. Aged 24-29 now but take that back six years and they look super young in the old videos. As intense as their title tracks are you can tell from Reason they're also super wholesome, and REALLY funny too in regular life.

Dreamcatcher is my favourite group! Not your typical kpop though, the rock vibe is pretty unique. Rock is not that popular in Korea (more a Japanese thing), so they struggled a bit to get their first music show win (like what a gold medal is for an athlete). So last year was quite emotional when they finally got not one, but two wins! They are also not from a big company, a few really dominate the market. Despite this they are now doing great, especially internationally, and have a loyal fanbase. Most idols are multi talents that trained for years, and videos are such a high quality. There are many different types of groups, Kpop is most known for sweet cute poppy ones, and "girlcrush" spice girl like groups. It's very divers and many groups vary or mix genre's, some even have jazzy songs.
