I call BS on the impartiality on this review. Every other reviewer has called out the side brush that stops when vacuuming carpets. This video shows the x30 side brush spinning but when you show the x40 on carpet, it’s sped up so you can’t tell. If I go into RU-vid’s setting and slow down the video to .25% I can confirm the side brush does not spin in your sped up video. That definitely should have been mentioned.
The side brush does not spin on carpet, but I can't confirm if it had impact on my carpet pickup performance test. Probably not in the middle of the carpet, but yes, definitely at the baseboards. I will let the brand know. I actually didn't notice it wasn't spinning, so my bad on that.
Same applies to the Tri cut brush roll. Other reviews confirm that it is useless. In this product presentation, sorry I mean "review" the brush looks like unused. So thanks for nothing

Thanks for the video! What is important for me is also 1) How high door thresholds it can pass without being stuck, and 2) How quiet it can vacuum on night mode (or “when I work at home-mode”).
1) I don’t know, but the wheels are fairly big so I’d guess about 1/2”. 2) I didn’t test noise level, but it’s not too loud in the quietest mode. If you’re in the next room you probably won’t notice it too much.
Just purchased Dreame X30 direct from Dream (Oct 1 2024) for $639.99 including shipping and with two year Square Trade Guarantee. At that price, the unit is head and shoulders above the competition.
I ordered a X30 Ultra for $690 with 2 yr warranty refurbished from Dreame on Ebay, but then I was able to find the roborock qrevo master for $850 new with 1 yr warranty. I'm wondering if you have any opinions on the two I've gotta decide which one I want to return. Was hoping not to unbox both.
Suction is important, but overall design, brushroll and the path it takes have a bigger impact on pickup. Think of it as an integrated system. Different manufacturers have slightly different approaches.
Dreame calls it cleaning solution, and the base station adds it to the water tank on the robot before it begins mopping. The detergent ends up on your floor and the mops of course.
A useful video. Thanks. The footage of your X40 carpet pickup test was very speeded up so I couldn’t tell but other X40 reviews have shown and commented on the fact that the side brush doesn’t spin at all on carpet (I think Dreame said because they were worried about it getting tangled in high pile carpets). I think one review also said that there was an option to fix that. Did you have the side brush working for the carpet pickup and if yes then did you have to set an option to make that happen or has Dreame made some change in the firmware? My home is mostly carpeted, including into the corners of my rooms, so I really do want the side brush to be doing its stuff on my fairly low pile carpets.
The side brush was not spinning on carpets in my test. I can check the settings when I have time. I can't confirm if it makes a difference or not, but in my pickup test it picked up just about everything I put on the carpet. Will it miss some pet hair near the edges of a room? Possibly yes, but again, I didn't test for every possible scenario.
It will work without internet. Ideally you’ll want internet to set it up. To control it with the app, you’ll want WiFi. I didn’t test this much, but I think you’ll be somewhat limited in the control you have without internet.
@@vacuumnerds thanks very much. I'm concerned about the privacy mainly. With the camera being on and the feed being seen without my knowledge or control.
@@adiands850You can turn off the AI obstacle avoidance setting and you can disable the real time camera. However, I haven’t spent much time testing it. If you don’t want any video, I’d suggest the X30 or maybe the Matic which does all processing on board. They’re an American company.
@@vacuumnerdsthank you so much! Do you think it will go under my furniture with a clearance of ~3.8” or will the X40 back out because there’s not enough spacing it requires?
@vacuumnerds I ordered on aliexpress the Chinese model. Dreame australia didn't help. I found a disassembly video for tge x30. Bending the front springs fixed it. I think the cut out around the camera was too tight.
$1900 for a damn robot vacuum… my $180 ihome has been cleaning my home for years just fine…. In fact I’m about to replace its battery because it doesn’t run as long as it used to without a recharge.
I think this is the most expensive robot on the market. However, you can find discounts on every robot during sales days and near the end of a model run.
i just got this ultra x40. How do i set the mopping pad washing frequency to every 5mins or so? The least it allows me is 10 mins. I do not want the mop pads mop for 10 mins without washing. My previous ecovacs t20 omni would let me choose 6mins.
They update the app frequently, so perhaps they will change it? You can mail or contact them via the app to request a more frequent washing. I'll let them know.
