By experience, I've been having odd waking dreams as a kid. With all the information that I've gathered and the experiences that I've had.. I tried to find meaning to, first, my waking dreams (Lucid Dreams). I'm 49 yrs old, and during the time of middle school, I borrowed Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud books to try and understand my dreams. I had too many waking dreams, so it had to be of some importance. Everything I know then until now, it's triggered by bad diet, lack of REM sleep, stress. Bad diet is the main factor. I noticed that Corn, Corn Syrup, Fructose, & High Fructose Corn Syrup creates the waking dreams. Nicotine and Caffeine might also attribute to it too. The dream part. I would have no comparison to Carl Jung's diet, but he did experience some horrific visions in his dreams too. I don't recall him ever writing that his dreams were of Lucid Dreams. But he wrote that some were vivid. I believe that at a certain point that somewhere in the brain, it gets damaged. And it tries to send warnings to you that it is trying to repair itself. So you start to make sense of what your trying to see in your dreams. Cause the sensation is unpleasant. Those ingredients in ones diets says it causes inflammation. With inflammation creates all sorts of medical problems. I don't believe sugar gives inflammation, unless you ingest abundant amounts.
@GabriellaTavini
@GabriellaTavini Год назад
Yeah, 100% our diets impact us in more ways than we realise. It makes me incredibly sad that our healthiest foods (fruit and vegetables) are at risk with the climate crisis. Jung wrote so much on dreams it’s hard to condense it all down. Thanks for sharing again.

What an amazing video of Jung. My favourite Jung's quotes is “No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” We can understand our Soul without befriend the Devil. Btw, do you have any source of Jung studies on Taoism n Mandala? Thank u for making this so easy to understand
@GabriellaTavini

That quote gave me chills. ✨ He was definitely the quote master! I have some information, on Taoism, but from Alan Watts rather than Jung. I’m keen to explore more of Jung’s work on mandalas and Taoism though. Thanks for commenting! 🙏🏻

My waking dreams started off as prey to predator nightmares due to Nightmare on Elm Street movie. Then the creatures started to show themselves by chases. They were horror movie creatures to just demonic creatures. I read comic books later as a teen (15 or 16). Started to understand that a person who's dreaming can have alot of dream powers. Started to practice when I woke up in my dreams. First skill was taking a step on an invisible block. It later turned into an invisible stairway to the sky. Then 2nd Wolverine's claws from X-Men comics. Then started to learn comic books after that

Jung, having issues with race is (in my opinion) more the reason to vest interest in him, as a person and his work. To take a personal, sort of social cencus in having a better understanding of those unlike yourself, has intrinsic value to self. How often do you notice the potential experiences in your environment, despite the one you may be looking for? It is, I think in many cases hard to come to terms with this idea. But a valiant effort if one dares to pursue. Take notice of the world that is not at your command. Or don't. Be well!

Wonderful video, dear Gabriella. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did which is the best bit, actually. Fascinating insight into his work, and your video really made me think of the movie "A Dangerous Method". I don't know if you've watched it or not. About Hypnagogia by the way, when I'm in that state of mind there are things that I experience or come up with (stories and poetry in particular) that are so good I'm utterly surprised how I'm even capable of conceiving them, the thing is I forget them 99.9% of the time which is pity. For the words you mentioned, these are the ones that came to my mind: Fire - Dragon Joy - Music Death - Mystery Rebirth - Death

I would not refer to jung as 'racist but rather as 'white supremacist' which is why he thought black people wanted to be white-- why wouldn't they? White, in his view was superior. I'm sure some black people did want to be white, due to social conditions, laws, etc.

Although he gave (or seemed to give) a great deal of credit to women, I believe he GREATLY understated their contributions. I believe many of them actually did a lot of the work he claimed, and even came up with a lot of the ideas he claimed as his own. (Not at all rare in those days for men to use women and take the credit). Especially look at the women who "edited" his work, often they actually *wrote* great chunks if what he supposedly authored. He also had sexual relations with his clients and at least one of his clients also became his "protégé" by which, again, he claimed to teach her but im pretty sure he tool credit for many of his ideas. I love jungian psychology but have a massive dislike for the man himself and think that more of the credit goes to the many women who's work he appropriated. (And who did their own work as well, but could never get to the level of recognition that he had.) Some women to study Sabina Spielrein Emma Rauschenbach (Jung) Toni Wolff Jolande Jacobi Marie-Louise von Franz Barbara Hannah Esther Harding Aniela Jaffé Kristine Mann Hilde Kirsch. Many of them explain "Jung's ideas" better than he does...

"Women are good listeners and have excellent intuition" yeah that's how he got them in bed. But if you're going to critique using race and sex, please show show how/why they affected his work rather than throwing them out as judgements against his character. Racism and sexism were de jure for the time period and your grandparents could qualify just as easily. That said, it's nice to see a young lady getting into this stuff.
@GabriellaTavini
@GabriellaTavini 3 года назад
Hey Daimo Thanks for commenting. I back up both points on race (16:23) and gender (17:18) in my video, but you clearly weren’t listening. Firstly, you invalidate Jung’s female clients’ courage by implying they were just his sexual playthings. Then, you accuse me of making judgements of Jung’s character. It’s not a judgement, Jung’s racism is a fact. Read the Travel section of his visit to Africa in his autobiography. Or listen to episode 87 of the ‘This Jungian Life’ Podcast with Dr. F Brewster, a Black female Jungian Analyst. And to top it all off, you patronise me, assuming “young ladies” wouldn’t be interested in Jung because well... we’re women. I’m always happy to debate ideas with my followers, but check yourself before sharing such malicious, flawed logic on my channel.
@Daimo83
@Daimo83 3 года назад
You stated his claim that blacks want to become white but you did not present an argument why he was wrong, accepting the inverse as self evident. This is not logic. There is a case to be made that people of African origin in the west feel disconnected and yearn for an ethnic culture of their own. We can see such a need in the Black Panther comic book film which showed just that. Malcolm X argued in 1963 that "[Mr Muhammed] cleans us up-morally, mentally and spiritually-and he reforms us of the vices that have blinded us here in the Western society". I don't want to get caught up in that debate but we can see that the discussion shouldn't be handwaved away with the assumption that our morals are superior to the people who came before us. I don't assume that women aren't interested in Jung, I assume almost nobody is interested in Jung. I am sorry that you felt patronised because of your gender, but a charitable interpretation of what I said wouldn't have led you to that conclusion. "Young lady" is not an insult. The shadow resides in negative emotion.
@GabriellaTavini
@GabriellaTavini 3 года назад
I point out that Jung said “black people get under the skin of the white person,” which is covert and arguably overt racism. The aim of my video is not to cover everything, but spark conversation, so viewers are inspired to research themselves if they wish. The shadow is negative emotion, so thanks for stating the obvious. 👏🏼
