Oh, a Schubert Piano Sonata! Gidi just discovered a whole new dimension.

One of the most emotionally exhausting pieces in the entire repertoire, it's absolutely heart-wrenching. It may be difficult wrap your head around it at first because it's very long, but it's ultimately a very rewarding listening experience. Also, if you struggle with sonatas, I suggest you watch Bernstein's lecture on sonata form. Being able to understand sonata form is the key to MANY pieces in the repertoire, and it really takes the listening experience to the next level.

Classical music takes a lot of patience, but it makes finding a new gem all the more satisfying

One of my favorite sonatas, probably number two behind the Liszt in B Minor. I've always envisioned a quiet winter scene while listening to it. Such an intimate piece: No showing off or drama, just raw emotion. I really love this version. Although you can hear her make some mistakes in this, the piece just fits her so well. When it comes to all the soft passages no one does it better than Uchida. That includes Richter, whose version I honestly don't enjoy too much. The only version I've heard that comes close is actually the first time I ever heard this, when I saw Khatia Buniatishvili play it live in Berlin. Btw, little off-topic advice from me: she is fantastic live, if you ever get the chance, use it. Her concerts are cheap and always great.

This is one of the masterpieces of the piano literature, along with the last five Beethoven sonatas and the other two late Schubert sonatas #19-20 D.958,959. You can maybe add the Liszt b minor in there too. All these Beethoven and Schubert works reveal themselves more with further listening and you'll probably enjoy them more.

I’ve always thought the slow movement is the most beautiful piece ever written for the piano.

I HIGHLY recommend these three pieces from Gershwin: American in Paris, Concerto in F, and Rhapsody in Blue. Every single note in these pieces are nothing short of genius

Look up Schubert Licht und Liebe. Way ahead of its time.
