I am an advocate of "signature" outfits. Its a smart reach approach to attire and buying where there is purpose with purchase

Hi there, great comment and you are very correct, only buy where there is a need rather than a spur of the moment purchase, which you later realise was unnecessary. Glad you enjoyed the video👍🙂

Thank you for your kind words 😊 It’s wonderful to hear about your journey through fashion and how you've drawn inspiration from different eras. The 40s and 50s had such a distinctive and stylish look - embracing that “Teddy boy” vibe, sounds like a lot of fun🙂 I'm glad you found the concept of "Lift" inspiring. Sometimes, it's those subtle changes that can make all the difference. Your dad was spot on with his advice about hats - they truly can make a statement! Welcome back in to the world of Sartorialism and thank you for your comments. Keep enjoying and expressing your unique style - fashion is timeless, and it’s never too late to rock the look you love! 🎩😊

Hi Chris, Thank you for the great video. I agree on all points. I really make sure that I have all my shirts ironed in my closet and the shoes are cleaned and polished. Saves so much time when you get dressed. Especially when you are in a hurry. I have a tip how to organize your pocket squares. I bought a sock organizer box on Amazon for $13. It is divided in small sections. I put mt pocket squares in, organized by color. I have a much better overview what I really have and can make a faster choice of the right pocket square. Before that I had it in a shoe box. I hated that mess. I like your Prince of Wales patterned suit. It looks really great.

I've been thinking of adding a navy safari jacket in linen to my closet since we're coming up on spring next month. I saw another RU-vidr wearing one with a tie & pocket square & I was surprised at how good it looked
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 6 месяцев назад
Hi Sean, the safari could be your signature piece, they are a great addition to a persons wardrobe, for the spring/summer period and whether you dress it up as you described or dressed down with jeans or lighter colours chino's, just avoid a similar colour to the jacket unless you buy the suited version as the colours won't match and it stands out like a sore thumb. are you going for the belted or tied closure?
@iansoutryer3189
@iansoutryer3189 6 месяцев назад
Try a Safari Jacket in Khaki, as I think it's more versatile. And a cravat is absolutely smart.
@seansimmons73
@seansimmons73 6 месяцев назад
@@TheBritishDapper I'm thinking a tied belt as it seems a little more free spirted. However Navy seems like a more formal color
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 6 месяцев назад
@@seansimmons73 a tied version is less formal in look to a belted (military style) and Ian is quite right, a Safari Jacket in Khaki, is more versatile thank a Navy one and a cravat is absolutely a great way of adding a pop of colour to the overall look. Also consider a stone colour one or even an olive green coloured one🙂

Is it ever recommended to put the whole outfit together in one’s closet? For example hanging the pants and shirt on the same hanger then tucking that combo in the jacket/blazer that one plans on matching with. Possibly even hanging the tie over the hanger as well. I’ve found this works best for me.
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 6 месяцев назад
Hi there, it sounds like you have a good method or being prepared and I would suggest that if it works for your, who cares about what other people do. The method I employ is only a suggested method and is not set in stone. Some hangers actually accommodate a tie as well, but I would urge you to use quality hangers it make a huge different to keeping your clothes in shape. Great to hear from you again and thank you for your continued support 👍🙂

Thank you for another nice video. An additional element I like to add to my attires is a self tie bowtie, as I find it can add that touch of unrivalled style and, when done well, of elegance. By the way, what about a bowtie video?
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 6 месяцев назад
Hi Alberto, glad you enjoyed the video and I'll look at a video in the future about bow ties. Whilst bow ties are not as commonly worn with the exception of Black tie, they do make a great addition to everyday wear and go well with a suit or sport's jacket ensemble 👍🙂

Excellent original content, Chris. So far, the only outfit I have actually prepared in the way you describe is my dinner suit and that is because what I wear with it is a given. However, since subscribing to your channel, what I have done with each of my suits, jackets and blazers, in turn, is a test trial, on a coat hanger, of different combinations of shirts, ties and pocket squares. For each ensemble that works together well, I photograph it for future reference. With my sports jackets, I additionally include a choice of different waistcoats into the mix. For the bridge between wearing a tie and an open neck shirt with a blazer or sports jacket, how about a traditional cravat? Although now viewed as out of fashion, I would like to think that there is still a place in a well dressed man’s wardrobe for a collection of different cravats for the added pop of colour and interest they bring to an informal outfit. Along with being organised, with shirts ironed, trousers pressed and shoes polished, all of them ready to wear, I believe that dressing smart should also mean not being a `cookie cutter' / clone of every other gent in my age range. The variety of men’s outfitters on the average UK high street is but a shadow of what it was 30+ years ago. If we are all buying our clothes from the same few chains, the resulting outfits, with everything bearing the same label, is boringly predictable. Purchasing our suits, shirts, jackets and knitwear etc. from the many specialists in their field, helps with individuality. eBay and Vinted also offer the opportunity of buying nearly new, expensive, Jermyn Street attire at very affordable prices. Lastly, a decent haircut for a thinning thatch offers much more visual interest than today's de rigueur Yul Brynner, and any wardrobe of good clothes will always look far better on a body frame that is the correct weight for our height. Be smartly turned out, yes, but don’t be afraid to be stylishly different from your peers in other positive ways.

Hi John, you've put a lot of thought and effort into curating your wardrobe and expressing your personal style. I very much appreciate your commitment to individuality and the attention to detail you've applied to your outfits. Experimenting with different combinations and documenting them for future reference is a great approach to take and in doing so refining your style. I find cravats are a great way of adding an informal pop of colour and interest. It's a unique and classic choice that can add a distinctive touch to your outfits and whilst dated in some people mind, I think it still has a place in a person’s wardrobe. Individuality in style is indeed important, and your emphasis on not being a "cookie cutter" in dressing is a very refreshing perspective. Your mention of exploring platforms like eBay and Vinted for unique finds, shows a resourcefulness in building a wardrobe that goes beyond the mainstream fashion. It's a great reminder that style doesn't have to be dictated by popular trends and that there are alternative avenues for discovering high-quality clothing. Your broader perspective on personal grooming, stressing the importance of a well-maintained appearance beyond just clothing, adds another layer to being smartly turned out. It’s great to see your renewed passion for style, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to expressing your individuality in a world where fashion trends can sometimes lead to uniformity. It's lovely to see you take pride in your appearance and enjoy the creative process of putting together unique and thoughtful ensembles and keep embracing your personal style. Looking forward to the 29th👍🙂
