Love these demos but would love to see these top riders on our average ordinary horses to help us improve their way of going. The horses they are on are already 90% there.

1. The horse is already over tempo, it does not need to be "quicker". Quick does not equal engagement, as speed is the enemy of impulsion. Going quicker when the horse is already over-tempo will only put him on the forehand, especially since she seems to want his head so low and BTV. She should be asking for longer "lengthened" strides perhaps, instead of quicker.... 2. At 1:46 The horse raises it's head to balance itself (as she has asked with her half halt) but she saws the reins to make his head go back down and he can no longer balance himself. Why can't people just leave the head of the horse alone???? The horse balances with it's head and neck, a raised head does NOT mean the horse is hollow. A horse in front of the vertical is the only way the horse can show true self carriage, other wise it is behind the contact and not seeking it. The head BTV only serves to leverage the back up, which gives the rider the ILLUSION of the horse carrying them. This whole BTV trend stems from the days of rolkur, and in many ways is actually the same as using rolkur on a horse. Round is NOT about the head being down and the back supposedly "coming up". This is wrong on so many levels!!! 3. When she gives the reins at 3:03 THAT is how a horse should look!!! Head up, throatlatch open, and head in front of the vertical, ESPECIALLY with such a young horse. 4. Why such busy hands?? When she collects him at the canter there is an awful lot of pulling involved, and even in the trot work her hands are quite busy....Also alot of spurring when asking for more canter.
Sammi totally agree with you. She missed all the correct moments. The rest of the time all I see is a closed throat, overbent and rider kicking and kicking. Sorry Bobby old gal but your riding wasn't beautiful too watch
@Sammi you just got done saying how ‘the horses head being up doesnt mean it is hollow’ which i tend to generally agree with- except for you tagged a part of the video, the only part of the video in fact, that the horse went completely hollow through the back. what a moron..... yes. when a horses head is relaxed it doesnt always mean theyre hollow. but a braced, high head is a hollow horse. whether or not you like it, this horse is built in such a way that when he is asked to come to the bit, he looks tense.
I agree. The horses head may come behind the vertical if the neck is lower and still be carrying themself correctly. Every horse is different and some must be ridden slightly behind in order to achieve suppleness and acceptance of the bit. This horse is working beautifully, I wish everyone wouldn’t focus so much on the head and neck position.
