I just bought them. My first cigars ever. I bought 2. 1 for me and 1 for my dad, who is a massive metallica fan. It's his birthday in a few days, and i wanted to do something nice for him. I really hope he loves these.
“Blackened” was a song first. “…And Justice for All”, 1988. That’s where the name for the Metallica whiskey came from. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these sticks.
When I saw you were reviewing these M81's I was stoked. I bought a box of these and let me tell you I was not disappointed. I enjoy branching out with other flavors, but I keep going back to these. Definitely in my top five. Plus...Metallica!!
I love the Blackened Cigar! It is amazing. I am a huge Metallica fan. Tim is spot on with his review. Blackened is also a song on the….And Justice for All album.
One of my favorites. Glad you finally review it. I put a lot of stock into what you say about the cigars, so It's always neat to hear you review one that I enjoy.
There's definitely an abundance of these in Southeastern Pennsylvania. I've enjoyed this cigar several times so far and I always make sure to stock my humidor with a couple anytime I go to a store that carries them. And being a Metallica fan of almost three decades, it was my original reason for picking it up. James was my biggest inspiration to pick up a guitar and play when I was younger.
The M81 is the best of two worlds for me. Metallica and a good maduro. I love these cigars. I buy whatever I can afford whenever a shop near me has them. Read it took two years of back and forth with drew estate and James Hetfield to get what it is. Long live the M81🤘🤘🤘🤘
I actually am fortunate to have two very well stocked, cigar lounges by me, and neither of them could get them at the time. Then, my brother who is a fan of the whiskey found some at the liquor store. Lol.
Tim....you nailed it. I got one of each size of these as a gift for my birthday and I am more of a mild cigar smoker and this thing had POP right out the first drag. When paired with a solid bourbon, it helps smooth out that strong flavor. Great review, right on the money. 🤘🏼
Bought the Corona size based on your review Tim... Absolutely agree the your tasting notes, though in addition, for me, I got raisins and plum coming through... Sensational cigar and now in my rotation. Great review..... Love your enthusiasm, as always. 🙏💯
I had to take a trip to the US to grab a box of these because I can’t find them in Canada where I live, but it is exactly what I’m looking for in a cigar. It did not disappoint
I really expected this to be an over hyped dud. But as a maduro lover, I had to try it. My God, what a great smoke! I loved it. Definitely a box worthy cigar.
Love drew estate. There one of the only companys to step outside the "norm" and do eomthing new. Cigars are just like anything else.....the classics will always be there, but a new fresh perspective on a "classic" is nothing to cry about. Im talking to the drew estate "infused" haters. Grow up......cause the products are geowing much faster than there opinions ;)
I found it to be very bold. The spice and leather fit perfectly together.but the hint of dark chocolate at the halfway mark really did it for me. Im not a big drew estates fan. But this will be my go to when I'm in a maduro mood
I'm pretty new to cigars and thought this stick might be a bit much. Boy was I wrong. I will definitely be ordering a few more of these to keep in my humidor for later!
Same. After my first one, i went back and bought the rest of the box they had. Then someone told me to try it w a few peices of dark chocolate, and it definitely took it to another level.
Just saw them in concert and was wo dering if they had a cigar... So glad I found some. Can't wait to play master of puppets vynil with a cut and a light!
I'm new to cigars and I just smoked this cigar tonight. I saw "BLACKENED" on the box and it caught my eye. I looked at the box and saw Hetfield's name on the box and had to try it. Being new, I'm not great at tasting still but I could see what people mean about leather. To me, it also tasted very peppery. The final 1/3rd, I began to find whiskey in the flavor, which was a nice surprise. I think this cigar was the first time I tasted anything other than pepper. I quite liked it.
Just got mine and was very pleased with it. It is a medium to heavy cigar. Need to try another. Got alot of spice and pepper on the end. Did not get coffee. But I'll try another.
Been many years since I smoked a cigar. When I found out Metallica helped with making this I had to hunt one down and give it a try. Love this cigar. I’ve had a few and not disappointed in them. Strong smoke all the way thru. I’ve also turned a few others onto it also.
Being a Metallica fan and a cigar smoker I had to try it had turned into one of my favorite cigars, still need to try the whiskey I was hoping you would do a review it’s a great smoke, just wished I could get local, where I just moved from I could, guess it box ordering time
I'll be honest. It's one of the best cigars I've ever smoked in my life! I absolutely love the strength of it! It suits Metallica perfectly. God bless.
I picked up a 5 pack from Cigar's Daily a few months back and I have to say a very nice cigar for the money. Normally I smoke doing yard work or sitting out back with a beer meditating. I can't tell you what notes it has, I just know it was a solid smoke and worth a try or three.
Really great stick. I got... Earthy oak, black pepper, and hints of dark cocoa and espresso. Retrohale was woody with an undefined sweetness, almost dark fruit-like dates
First time I heard about it, I was drooling bc I love METALLICA. BOUGHT 1 along with the liquor. I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I am still a newbie at cigars,it is 1 of my favs thus far
I'm told this is about to reach a lot of people's top 5's as the Top 25 lists and reviews come out for the end of the year. Keep an eye on this one! Glad you're enjoying it.
The recent Cigar Aficionado article noted they tamed it down a bit from the original version Papa Het and friends tested. Crazy. Maybe we need a second version to really blow our tasters to bits?
Not sure how I felt about this cigar. Just smoked one and it was super peppery and woodsy. Final 3rd of the cigar was easily the best with black coffee and almost meaty notes. I probably wouldn’t reach for this often. The construction however, was amazing.
I'm smoking one now I like to listen to your review while smoking to see if I pick up same things and yes sir full bore full strength all the way rich bold and dark but still there is this smoothness to it I had no clue it was a calab when I picked it up. I think blackened whiskey and another one is in store. I bet the whiskey. Would go nice with it
Tim this thing is an awesome powerhouse. I had it with a Bombergers whiskey and oh man the two went together like a hand and glove. Next time have it like this and by the time you are done you will rate it a 100! Ha.
Love metallica. Me and my brothers love their whiskey. Im the only one who smokes cigars, and my brother saw them in our localbig name liquor store, and bought me a few. Im looking forward to trying them.
I had high hopes for this stick, and it exceeded all my expectations! Its definitely on my top 10. Dark, heavy, but is smooth as silk. Ill def have to buy a box.
It was hard to find this cigar every cigar shop I went to it was sold out finally I got one and I got two of them I wish I could find the The blackened whiskey that's the one I am looking for and I will find it.
I got these before they came out from a barn smoker event. I love strong cigars and even this one was a little much for me. I had to be in the mood for this cigar. That being said it was good for what it is.
I’m 25. Little but younger than the average Metallica listening cigar smoker b it I love em both. This cigar is definitely one of my favs not an everyday but too 5 for sure. Also if it makes you giggle my gramma has a VHS tape recording of me she took when I was five moshing alone to a Metallica song 😂
Just had this cigar. Loved it. Any recommendations for similar cigars? There something about this roll. The wrapper and filler create firmness that is present in the liga line, also mi quierda donburton has similar stick feel.
If you can afford a box, it actually makes him quite a bit cheaper per stick. So yes, it's more upfront, but cheaper in the long run. And if you'd like a robust cigar, you won't be disappointed.
@@chrismoody9855 I do like a robust cigar but I rather buy a 5 pack first to see if I'm going to like it. Not all cigars are good just because they're strong , I'll probably buy a 5 pack when I see them available....
