What gets me is that wouldn't that affect the rotation and the velocity of the ball at some point, probably not 20 yards but over a greater distance, so their whole experiment was fundamentally flawed from the start
I love all the people saying 'bows and arrows are actually more accurate'. Well no shit Sherlock, hence why hunters used a bow instead of throwing the arrow.
this is downright astounding. I wonder if he did this on his first take, or if it was multiple takes. if he hit 10/10 on his first take, I truly believe he is the only person in the world who could do it on their first try.
@@shashankprasad2956 Brady is the goat qb for sure, but Brees is the no doubt all time champion when it comes to purely throwing the football. He’s a freak of nature.
@@jeffhampton7405 his arm has been a noodle the last 2n a half seasons. He didn’t let that terrible injury where his arm got snapped and bent keep him from being a first ballot HOFer, but it definitely affected his arm strength later on in his career
@@nostalgiajunkie For sure. I’m talking about pinpoint accuracy with Brees. For pure strength, there are a ton of names that jump out ahead of his, like Favre, Elway, Marino, Josh Allen, Mahomes, etc etc etc. But I don’t think anyone is touching Brees when it comes to placement.
I agree it is not fair to compare, but stop hating hitting dead center 10 out of 10 is impressive. Drew Brees is an amazing quarterback and a great leader! I sure love his motivational speeches!!!
Drew Brees was the reason that the Saints were once upon a time real playoff and superbowl contenders for over a decade. Saints have never been the same since Drew Brees left
This man deserve so much more respect, he can no longer throw a football with his right arm. From the degenerative damage of his injury that sent him from San Diego to the Saints.. which began after his injury and trade. He played with it the entire time. He continually destroyed his arm and would use his arm as best he could, even in the end when he literally could not throw it past 15 yards. One of the best qbs to do it, with sub par teams.
@@Natearl13 every single team in the NFL had a bounty program back then, the Saints injured the least amount of players out of all the teams in the NFL that year. They had a pay for performance pool, not a traditional bounty program like most the other teams.
Imagine if Brees had a team like the Patriots or Colts, 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos, Chiefs, BUCS, etc, giving him that extra second or two of pass protection, and some wicked great wide outs. Imagine how many yards he would have on paper today.
Okay, archers shooting at 20 yards, especially compound bow archers (like the one they keep showing) are capable of hitting the center 100% of the time. They also shoot at smaller targets at 20 yards. This target is a 70 meter target. There have been many compound bow shooters that have shot a perfect 300 round. (A 300 round is shooting 12 rounds of 5 arrows, (60 total shots) at 20 yards, where a perfect score would equal 300 points.)
Lol... Pretty sure the people that said throwing a football 20yards to hit a target that is 1/3 size of the ball is easy, won't even make 10% of their throws if they tried. (You should try if you think you can)
@@kennydomino2134 mahomes has kelce, juju, Pacheco, he had hill. Bree’s I’n his prime only really had Brandon cooks. It’s the fact mahomes has a way better team and Bree’s still does better
This argument is completely invalid. Olympic archers shoot at a distance of 70 meters drew was throwing at 20 yards. At 20 yards I can keep 60 arrows within the 10 on a 40 centimeter target, with the 10 being 4 centimeters across. I am 14 years old let alone someone like Reo Wilde who can keep it within the x. It is 2 centimeters in diameter
20 yards not even that far so they should try 100 or 200 yard see ho will win that. I can hit a ballon at 100 yards I even got it at 200 yards I don't think he could do that lol and I am 15 years old 20 yards to close he should try 50 your 70 yards
Tom Adams 50 yards would be extremely challenging with a football...he might hit the target but I doubt anyone could hit dead center consistently. At 20 yards to be that accurate is still impressive
Very impressive, but there is a slight difference between 20 yards and 70 meters, the distance an olympic archer shoots. You don't need to boost up your skills, they are amazing anyway.
There are so many flaws with the ESPN test it is surprising it went on air without anyone noticing. 1a) As Joerg pointed out, the distances between the mats were different, both in the final test and in the test with the other footballer. 1b) The difference between 20 and 70 meters would be greatly exaggerated because of the affect of wind and any problems in the throw/shot 2) There were many Olympic archers tested, and only one athlete. 3) The athlete was allegedly at the very top of his profession, whereas there is a wide variety in skill level within Olympic athletes. 4) Even if the footballer had performed a fair test, since the skill levels are relative to each profession, it does not prove the accuracy of the weapon. 5) Similarly to the previous reason, it does not prove the accuracy because of many other factors with the athletes (such as wind speed, physical and mental preparation, distance etc). 6) In the video where they tested another athletes hit/miss ratio, they did not state his skill level, and the target he was shooting at was moving. If I were to suggest a better test for accuracy, the projectiles would be shot at the same distance with a machine indoors with equal tests on both sides, estimating > 100 tests for each to be able to conclude which one was more accurate.
An archer bow creates more velocity .. it is made to be accurate from that distance. An archer should be able to hit 50 out of 50 bullseye from 20 yards.
@ApexPredator95 I've yet to see a archery target at the combine. I see receivers that get paid millions to catch passes and drop easy catches with regularity.
Most underrated an ever Can’t understand why everyone mentions Brady, Rodgers , Manning and even rothlisberger over this guy Sure they have titles but the saints only had a good defense for a few years. Drew’s accuracy is like Steph curry 3 point shot or Michael Jordan’s acrobatic moves
+tahtiyanna Rougeau - Defenders? NFL QB's have 6'6" monsters coming at them from all sides as soon as the ball is snapped. And all of those guys are out to break him. Also, an archer does not have to hit a moving target. QB's have to throw to receivers who are in most cases on a dead run moving between the other team's defensive secondary. This test measures only the smallest and easiest aspect of a QB's requirements...
The only thing that they didn't tell you is that Olympic archers shoot at around 70 yards while he shot at 20 yards. Impressive, but try shooting the same distance before going saying you are better. The drag remains relatively the same because of the small surface area by the way. This is why I don't like watching sports.
***** This was a BS test, but I think the NFL QB is more impressive than an Olympic Archer. The QB's throwing motion is more difficult than an archer's release (not as repeatable). He also has to read coverage, worry about being sacked, and hit a moving target. In contrast, the archer can rely on advanced equipment to aid in aiming and repeating a firing motion. They've even gone as far as adding rods to increase the moment of inertia of their bows to stabilize them, which is kind of cheap. The NFL style pure pocket passer is a rare combination of situational awareness, split second decision making, strength, and precision. Getting a very good pocket passer is difficult enough that many teams in the NCAA (and some in the NFL (e.g. 49ers and Eagles)) have switched to spread option football and dual threat QBs (less than perfect passers who can run fast and have good agility)... Sure, spread option football (also known as zone read football) offers very exciting running play, but the passing game often relies on relatively easy screen passes and isn't as reliant on the franchise QB.
+tahtiyanna Rougeau it isnt lol compared to how far the archer is and have to hit the arrow inside the yellow. 12 inch NFL size football hitting a receiver from 60 yards, who has the ability to go and catch the ball vs. a 9.3 millimeter olympic size arrow hitting a target with 122 cm in diameter from 70 meters out.
notice how they didnt say anything about the distance between the target and the archer? this oaf can hit the target so accurately because he is throwing it from 20 yards (18 m). in olympic archery they shoot from 77 yards (70m).
He is deadly accurate at 70 yard... He has nfl records for pass completion when there is 2 or more defenders less than 1 yard away from the reciever wouldnt be different
Hate and love this show because it makes a mockery of science and is made for dumb people who like Kim Kardashian but want to feel smart... It's just such a good concept that I still watch a clip here and there even though I know almost NO ACTUAL science is happening EVEN THOUGH THEY WANT YOU TO THINK SO (which is the worst part, the deceptive nature of the creators and producers to make money and sell you vacuum cleaners).
Wel, yeah hes a good shot with ball, but hes throwing from about 20 yards. Olympic archers shoot at 77 yards. And they get almost perfect scores in comp. matchplay, so in practice, they will probably be getting them all in the ten if not the X. Also, from 20 yards, olympic archers could get a perfect score every time on a target 1/3 that size. Also, the ball is much bigger than an arrow, so if it looks like the ball hits the ten, the centre of it probably hits the nine. It would touch about three separate rings at the same time. An arrow cant do that. If this guy could hit a target like that in the ten every single time at 77 yards, id give it to him. But he cant.
Does this mean that I'm more accurate than an Olympic archer in spiting at an archery target if I stand like 2 inches away? Archers shoot 77 yards away, drew was throwing 20 yards away, so I can spit at whatever range I want right? This is test is not scientific at all. This show needs to focus less on editing and loud Hollywood announcer guys and more on the actual science. And it's angular velocity, not spin rate, and it would be 62.8 rad/s, not 600RPM. Come on guys, if you're going to do a science show, assume your audience like science!
You try throwing a big ass obloong shaped football 77 yard and hitting the bullseye or even the target itself 1 time cmon go ahead. i know drew brees could do it so that must mean archers and yourself can to.
Drew Brees has the highest completion percentage in a season than any NFL QB in history including Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Most accurate and most underated.
I'm not sure if I'd say most accurate. This challenge would be a breeze for many of the best (Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Bret Favre, Joe Montana, Dan Marino etc.). He's only like 15 yards away. You'll see guys like Deshaun Watson hit that bullseye from like 20-40 yards down field easily. Standing still, it is very easy for an all-pro (best of the professionals) to hit a bullseye like that. It only becomes hard when the QB is on the move. That's why the only quarterbacks that truly impress me are Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers. Don't get me wrong, it's still impressive as hell for most QB's, but when you get to the truly greatest of all time, it becomes a world of freakish humans who not only have that finesse, but the knowledge of the throwing mechanics to perform the throws perfectly and the arm strength to go deep and still do it.
illman300 look at the way the chalk flies, and where the ball hits every time. Drew Brees is good no doubt, but this is the same throw over and over again
