Dried Liver -Nutritional Powerhouse! (And maybe key to me being fertile into my late 40's?)

Why do we call things that we aren't excited about "chopped liver," when chopped liver is literally one of the most nutritious (and prepared well, also delicious) foods on the planet?
Eating a little liver several times a week is probably much better for you than taking vitamins in pill form, and was a key part in both my preparation for and recovery from Alone Frozen. And holy cow, did it ever work! I recovered much faster from Alone Frozen than Alone Season 6 and less than a year and a half after it happened, found myself miraculously pregnant at age 47 without even trying!
In this video I walk you through my technique for preparing a dried liver health supplement that stores and travels well and I think is absolutely delicious!
My book, NEVER ALONE, A Solo Arctic Survival Journey is now out! It's getting rave reviews and became an Amazon best seller in its first week out! Get your copy at

Great idea. I do like liver in small quantities, and have even eaten it raw, so no problem for me. I live off-grid with a small system and can't run an electric dehydrator or my wood stove for 24 hours (tiny house in mild climate). Is cooked and dried a reasonable compromise? At slightly higher temperature and even more thinly sliced I could probably get it dry in an afternoon to evening in the wood fired oven.

You definitely want to dry it raw, not cooked. Same for regular jerky. Cooking before drying can allow dangerous bacteria to proliferate. Sounds like a better option for you would be a solar dehydrator, which can be as simple as a screen outside in the sun, or more elaborate. Flies and yellow jackets love the smell of liver though, so you'll need a screened in area or something similar to protect it from them

@@BuckskinRevolution thanks for the reply. I do have a solar dehydrator (Larissa Walk type), but won't be able to use it at my latitude and damp climate (maritime UK) until the late spring at earliest. I would have thought it would be safe cooking it and whilst still hot move on to drying it still in the safe temperature zone (140ºF plus) but lower than cooking to stop it scorching. I know of people who dehydrate cooked meat with no ill effect. I was more wondering about the nutritional value and possible denaturing of proteins that would make a less desirable product. In other words, what is the advantage of raw liver over cooked?

Amazing suggestion 👌 : A SUPER HEALTH ELIXIR to add a bit of dried liver to bone broth 👏 ... The CARNIVORES Dr. Kendberry, Dr.LISA WIEDMAN, and Dr Chaffee, communities, will certainly appreciate 😀 👍 🧙‍♂️🇨🇦(Montréal).

Thank you for this video!!! If we are new to liver and don’t love the taste just yet, can you grind it and put it in capsules? I know it’s a lot of work. Is there a concern about the grinder heating it up too much?

Thanks heaps Woniya. That's REALLY enhanced my food preserving knowledge. Q's; so can it be smoked ? Is it o.k to salt / marinade / season before drying ? And can the same be done for heart and kidneys ?

Yes, I have dried every major Morgan, including spleen and lungs, and even congealed blood set up into loaf, like tofu and sliced in a manner similar to this. You can absolutely marinate it, if you plan to eat it like jerky, but I generally just dry it, as it is as the most common way, I eat it is added to my bone broth, which has salt and flavor of its own. I am not sure that you would want to smoke it, as you want it to be raw and many smokers heat, the meat to the point where they are no longer raw. Cold smoking should be OK though and would certainly help it last longer. I eat it so regularly that I am not concerned about making it last even longer. I always eat it before it has any chance to go bad

Thanks for more healthy idea's! I just made my second batch of Pork Liverwurst! After butchering our own pigs for years... I always cooked the organ meat for my chickens. However, after hearing everyone on Alone talk about how Nutritional the organ meats are I found a good recipe for making mine own Pork Liverwurst! Sorry chickens 😂

Is it lamb or sheep? Looks huge to fit in a lamb.
@BuckskinRevolution
@BuckskinRevolution 8 месяцев назад
Technically, anything less than a year old is considered lamb. Which means that most "lambs" look just as big as most adult sheep by the time they are ready for butchering.

@@BuckskinRevolution Thanks for the info. That's good to know. You always see lamb to eat but rarely grown mutton. That makes sense
