Great review, I'm currently building a trailer loosely based on these, they seem like a great platform for touring. Good to see they perform well, obviously a quality build!
Yes, second water tank was added, very useful to have. We had two pillows and a doona which we would pack up every time. I am sure you could get away with some blankets and a sheet but the doona and pillows were too thick to fold. We tried it a couple of times and it was too much. You don't really have a lot of space before it would be tricky to get the cover on the tent so it wouldn't take much. The hardtop Roof Top Tent we had before would take a Doona and pillows so was so much easier... I would recommend looking at the ikamper drifta have which would give you a large hard-shell roof top tent with the advantage of being able to store more in it.
Hi Rich, Thanks so much for this review. I'm looking at the WUHT version of these. I know it's been awhile since this review but I was hoping you could answer me this. I've heard some people say that the Evacool fridge should be strapped down as they find it moves around in it's box. Did you have any problems with this?
Geoff Casson ... Hi Geoff. We never had any issues with the fridge moving around. The only issue we had was sometimes the Anderson connector would come away if the cable got caught.
Hi again, I have 2 other questions if you could please answer. Why the tarp saver over spreader pole for water pooling? I would think the extra pole would get in the way of kitchen area. And roughly how long does it take to set the side privacy walls up? Thanks
With the spreader pole in there is no need for a tarp saver... I used to use the tarp saver before having the spreader pole. Putting walls up is very quick as its just velcro and zips around the kitchen and then under the tent it's a slide on sail track bag, unzip the bag and clip in the hooks..... Obviously it takes a bit longer to put down the more you put up... We used to put walls away the night before if setting off early and the weather allowed.
Great to see a long term well used trailer review, it gets frustrating trying to find quality thoughts including issues that pop up for these kind of trailers as its usually some journalists using a fully kitted out setup off the show room floor for a couple of days. Well done.
I don't mean to be picky, but that DOT looks new, not a mark on anything, from the stone deflector to the rear wheel cover to the kitchen, water tap etc etc....seriously if you're going to do a long term review show it in its USED state, you say for all intents and purposed that the trailer presented is yours that you cleaned up, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
Mike Foster it is mine. If you look at all my videos and travels you will see it’s been on the road for one year solid and owned it a year before that for multiple trips. This was after I cleaned it up before I sold it. There is a new owner now of this dot. Cleans up well doesn’t it!! If you look at our Instagram or Facebook feed you will see where it has got to over it’s life when we owned it. Lots of work to clean it up to look this good.
