Basic product overview and instruction guide for the Drill Doctor XP. Includes: How to operate the XP with various drill bits, Product anatomy, Product cleaning and maintenance
Ok, so I was with you folks; literally about 6 to 7 years ago I bought this thing and never once used it...just skimmed over the instructions and said piss on it, and put it in a cabinet and never looked at it again, until to day. I'm making custom doors for a Kubota RTV X1100c, and skinning the metal doors with a heavy canvas, to deaden some of the noise when pushing through dense brush...always sounded like a bunch drum sticks tapping on the doors...drive you crazy! SO, the canvas changed that 100%. The issue: About 100 holes per door for rivets. I only have 1 bit that is right for the rivets...was dull before I even started. 30 miles to get another bit. had a thought: "Oh yeah...that damned drill sharpener". Get it out, and set it up, and once again skimmed over the instructions, and kept getting a flat grind...was pissing me off. Then I go back to the instructions...SHIT! The white index marks on the bit-holder ARE NOT what you line-up with the 180 degree mark on the angle finder to set your bit...it's actually the two black plastic fins INSIDE that collar that is holding the bit, that you line up with the 180 degree mark on the machine. it sets the correct depth AND angle for a particular drill size. THEN you move it to the other end of the machine and align those white index marks with that metal post on the machine and slowly twist, clockwise with even pressure so it "wobbles"/tracks the cams on the bit holder. Son of a gun...even a tiny bit was cut exactly at the right angle and works at least as good as new. Forget about the side chamber for "split bits" until you work-out how to use the regular sharpener, which will have you kicking your own ass when you realize how well it really works. Once you successfully sharpen a few bits, then open the side chamber to split bits, of course only on larger drills. It actually sharpens fantastic. It's the damned instructions that leave a bunch to be desired. All these years later and I can finally stop free-handing my drills on my bench grinder, which works ok for large drills (bits), but sucks ass for tiny ones like I used today. Don't give up y'all...worth every penny once you get it.
