Drill Holes in 1/2" PVC Pipe and This Happens

Create a watering system for plants by drill holes in 1/2" in PVC pipe and attaching to your sprinkler system. This is a very cheap way to water your garden. You can adjust the flow of water and using this system to flood your garden bed with water for deep watering as well.

Spend your entire day drilling holes in $18 worth of PVC or buy a 50' soaker hose for $18 and be done with it in a minute.

Great idea 👍🏿. Yet remember this is temporary and the PVC will have no other use besides a yard post. See Jag's other videos on funny pipe. If you decide to go with this route consider long runs with PVC along the boarder and funny/drip lines in the till zones. This way there are more options for horiz and vert flow control...ie succulents watered at root level and the running type that require more space than water coverage such as tomatoes, melons, vines... Better to keep the PVC raised and anchored versus buried for maintenance of soil. More reusable parts this way and expansion is possible. While keeping backflow issues in check.

I have some PVC left from renovations that I did to my house. I recently tilled all my garden beds and planted some stuff. I find it relaxing to take out the water house grab a chair and sit down while watering my garden. But this is tedious at times, and I have other things to do. That's when THIS idea came to mind. And just like you, I was sceptical. So I came to RU-vid to see if it could be done, and whether it would work. Thanks for the great video. Now I can definitely go ahead with this project, knowing that it will work 👍

This is a great idea. I have an issue with ground squirrels eating through the black plastic drip lines and also I have hard water which clogs the drips. So not great. I was thinking maybe having pvc like this may work better, but I see just drilling holes is also a super affordable way of doing it.

Nice trick but I thought white PVC pipe is for in ground use. Why not use regular drip irrigation pipe with emitters or even holes and then a pressure reducer at the inlet. Having valve (to turn on/off the water when needed) is always a good idea.

The higher your holes, the higher the water rises, and the more you'll waste to evaporation. Also, water on leaves is a major factor for fungal diseases.

I did four rows 25 feet long. It doesn't distribute evenly but of course that is to be expected. Do you think that if the whole system communicated, that is, instead of having the ends capped but rather joined with tees all the way around, would I get more even flow?
@DaisyCreekFarms
@DaisyCreekFarms 5 лет назад
Make sure the pipe is leveled. 25 feet might be too long for 1/2 in pipe. I would only suggest 10 ft long. You can run a long 1 in pipe depending on the length of your garden bed and use 1/2in pipe for the width of the bed. could be 50 ft of 1 in pipe and 5 ft or 10 ft outlets of 1/2in pipe for example.

I've done this. But I drilled the holes on the sides, further down the pvc pipe so it sprays more next to the ground, to avoid hitting the plants. Also start out with less holes, you can always add more. If you don't you can't plug up the holes and the water pressure may keep water from coming out the end part.
@atomizer2665
@atomizer2665 Год назад
You can plug holes using a short piece of pvc pipe with a section cut out, clip it onto the pipe and slide it over the hole you dont want. I would have used elbows and tees on the other side of the system to creates a loop. This way the water can flow from both sides and it makes for more even pressure distribution.
