good idea. i like how you eased into the final inside diameter with the drum sander. two minor criticisms: 1) i'd cut the hole with a hole saw, before trimming the stock… hole saws cut smoothly and without burning if you use a little silicone lube. maybe you didn't have one, that's ok, you use what you have, 2) i'd use plywood instead of oak to avoid the piece splitting along the grain at thin sections

Both are good suggestions. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your suggestions on material and hole saws. It's appreciated.

Its a great idea and I'm going to try it. Its satisfying to know that people like yourself care enough to answer. Not all u tubers are like that. I'd like to tell you a story about the hybredpantorouter, the purchase and delivery. Its a great idea too, except upon getting the tool it was obvious that Woodcraft Solutions LLC didn't care about the quality!

I do my best to reply to all comments on the show. I do miss the odd one from time to time but that doesn't happen very often. I don't monetize the channel because I have no desire to make money from helping people enjoy woodworking. I do it because I enjoy it and as long as I enjoy producing the program, I will continue to post episodes and answer as many comments as I can. Thanks again for tuning in.

Great Idea.I just finished making mine, The only thing I did different was I cheated and used a 2X4 and used a hole then the sanded as you did...I am still learning the scroll saw ,and my circles are just a little less than square .(ha ha ) Not as pretty as yours but it got the job done ,,again ,great Idea,,thank you for posting

Glad that you like the project. As far as you "cheating" goes, there's no such thing. That's the great thing about this hobby.....there are a million different ways to accomplish the same task and as long as you are doing it safely, then there is no such thing as cheating. The methods that I demonstrate on the show are just one way of doing things and definitely not the ONLY way. Good for you for thinking outside of the box and choosing a method that works for you and provides the same results. Awesome stuff. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to leave me a comment.

Thank you for the idea Kenny, I made one and it works well except when I want to turn the drill press table. Any Ideas?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 8 лет назад
+Lalo Martin Attach the dust collection to your fence, instead of the upright pole of your drill press. That way, it moves with the table, instead of staying stationary. A couple of screw, countersunk unto the top of the fence and a couple of rare earth magnets glued into the base of the dust collection will make it so that you can mount it on either the post or the fence at a moments notice.

Another nice one Ken. Made one of these back during my coach build and it makes a huge difference! When you make one for the lathe you'll need to make something like a hopper to attach the hose to because just the hose hanging there doesn't work very well. Does anything really work on a lathe? I think its like trying to get all the saw dust at a miter saw. Anyhow I used the floor sweep attachment on mine and that worked a little :) I still get tons of shavings though.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 10 лет назад
The collection at the lathe, for me, is just to gather the dust while sanding. I'm not concerned about the shavings. In fact, I want the shavings, because I use them to burnish my turned pieces once I get them sanded. Thanks for the kinds words and thanks for tuning in Johnnie.

With the hose mount clamped in the column, were you still able to adjust the height/level of the table?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
The hose clamp can interfere slightly with the adjustment but if you put it higher up on the post of the drill press, it is pretty rare that you adjust the drill press table to be that high on the post so it won't get in your way. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Amazing idea just one question how did you countersink the hole from the inside
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 4 года назад
The interior countersink was done using a hand powered countersink tool, much like this one. www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/hand-tools/drills/54874-hand-countersink Because you don't require a large drill chuck to get in the way, you are able to countersink into some tighter areas. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
