I made this drill press table so I can use it for woodworking projects and take it off quickly and use the cast iron table for metal working parts. The T track on the drill press table and fence makes it easy to use a stop block for repeated holes and add hold down clamps to keep my work piece in place. This was a fun easy shop project and it should keep my woodworking parts from getting contaminated with cutting oil and metal pieces!
At 6:52 I say that i am drilling 1/4 20 holes and meant to say I am drilling holes for 1/4 20 bolts! oops!
Here is the T track I used (Affiliate)

Yea. Its pretty expensive here too. I had plans to make all my new shop furniture out of it but I'm abandoning that plan. I'm just using up what I have now

MDF is a nice substitute. Makes a good work table.
@stevenrayhoward
@stevenrayhoward 5 лет назад
@@Jeff-fs3rn Hey Jeff... I agree MDF is quite useful. A heads up, though, to those that may live in areas where humidity is not so friendly to those of us unfortunate enough to not have climate controlled shops: MDF is not as stable as some claim. It "moves" a lot with the humidity and can warp pretty easily... not to mention the dust cloud when routed, sanded or cut - ALWAYS wear a good nose/mouth mask and great eye protection (the style that also keeps the dust from getting into your eyes). I have found MDF to be most useful as a "sandwich" or bottom layer when building up a surface. Between two pieces of good ply or the bottom piece for a two piece surface (a good piece of ply for the top surface).

First time watching your Channel. Great video! Not only was it well thought-out and well-presented, but it was great to see a fellow left-handed woodworker at work. As a relatively new woodworker, I sometimes struggle figuring out how to use right-handed tools. Now I have someone I can look to for demonstrations!

I use a coupler nut with a bolt on other end to drive hanger bolts. It sort of acts like a nut driver. The head of the depth stop bolt is smaller than the coupler nut itself. Used a coupler with different threads on each half.

Well done. The last 3 I watched were pathetic. I dig the 3 pieces of 3/4 ply for the fence. Sweet! Anything you would change? I'm strongly considering a round insert with the finger holes in the table and not in the insert. Thoughts?

You sir did a fantastic job. I will be building this but on a smaller scale for my smaller drill press. What I really want to compliment you on is how much thought you put into this. Everything you said was completely clear and easily followed. The sacrificial insert is brilliant. More than anything I want to thank you for having the class and decency to make a video that didn’t need vulgar language or clowning around. Far too many people think that the are comedians but just make fools of themselves. I give you 10 out of 10 and look forward to seeing more of your excellent work. Great job my friend. PS. For convenient weights leave your machine where it was and get yourself a supply of weight training plates. They come in different weights and sizes and are not that expensive. Especially the ones you get for free from your friends who gave up trying to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. 😁

Thanks! I've seen a couple designs that had dust collection built in. I might include that if I were going to build it again. Also, if the sacrificial insert was round instead if square I could rotate it to a few extra positions before having to replace it but that's very minor and there's always some scrap wood to make new inserts. I've only replaced it once since building the table

Thanks so much for thinking about me Sumo. I took a little break. I work a day job about 60hrs a week then I was coming home and going straight in to the shop to try and crank out a project/video. I could not keep up and still devote enough time to my family so I gave it a rest over the holidays. I did just finish a quick project and am working on the editing. Social media, the algorithm and building a brand can be quite demanding. If I thought I could make a full time career at it, it wouldn't be so bad but it would take more time than I have so I have to pace myself. Props go out to the big makers that somehow manage to crank out content every week, make plans, keep up a website and answer thousands of comments a month.

Nice job and I very much like that you incorporated the grooves on your metal drill platform to your wood table very few folks do that. I agree with the comment about using match fit clamps in incorporating these in my shop. But I have to ask you why such a thick fence? 3 laminated 3/4 boards?

Thank you. The star knobs I used to lock the fence down are 2 in wide. I didn't want them to hang out past the fence so I used the 3 pieces of plywood. This is the second time watching this video. The first time was when you posted it and then I saved it in my favorites. This is one of the nicest drill press tables I have seen. I am going to make it with one difference. The top layer of plywood and the second layer or middle piece will not be glued together. Instead, I will connect the two with a piano hinge installed along the front edge of them. Along the two side edges, I will take two 1/8" thick strips of 1" wide by 12" long pieces of steel or aluminum (whichever I have on hand) and make a 5/16" wide by11" oblong hole through the middle of the metal strip. This will be attached to the top layer of plywood at the rear side with a star knob and the other end will be attached to the front side of the second piece of plywood with a 1/4 20 screw and fender washer. The other strip of metal will be attached the same way to the other side of the table. By doing this I will be able the drill angled holes. I am hoping to attach a ruler to the strips of metal for accurate angles. Thanks for the awesome design!

CA glue, brads and bolts to hold it down. You must get really physical with your drill press :-) I dig it.

@@TwistedWorkshop77 Just to add further to my above comment. One thing that I found superb was just how relaxed, clear and easy to follow your video was. Looking forward to watching some more of your videos and learning a thing or two.
