Indie screenwriter here, I welcome The Acolyte and I hope Disney keeps putting out more stuff. I was at the Berlinale in February, and I never had this many people look at my screenplays including UK and US based companies. This is the best that can happen to indie writers. People are looking for new talent and new stories, especially if the big companies are pre-occupied with checkboxes.
@@theupperechelon7634 No, it's just not as bad on my budget level (1-5 million) and the quest for the checkbox is not as pronounced in Europe. For example, one of my screenplays was noted to death by woke readers. So much needs to change, it becomes woke generic schlock. So, instead we're trying to make it happen in Europe with a much smaller budget. Script was good, won some awards but I can't penetrate the woke gatekeeping. Like Chris Gore pointed out, this crap is now baked into the screenwriting process.

I never pitched to big studios but to small indie companies and a few reps in the US via Stage32 and other platforms. It was either not for them or it got noted to death including some 'ism' lol (I have grid girls in the script and that's considered sexist). So, we switched to Europe and now we're trying to produce it ourselves in Germany and Italy with UK actors. In the meantime, I launched a RU-vid channel last year during the strikes. I do video essays on storytelling (gotta do something with this knowledge).
That line from the trailer that goes "is about power and who is allowed to use it" is one of the most villain lines I´ve heard, and the funny thing is, I don´t think the writers know that.

Andor is the only thing giving this IP a heartbeat right now, for me anyways. I wait with baited breath for season two, with forlorn hope that it will measure up to the very high expectations it has set for itself. If they're both good, I can at least leave the rest of Star Wars behind knowing I got one really good show and a halfway decent movie to add to re-watches of the first six; if season two is bad, well, it was all already dying anyways.
Sorry about the studio destroying a franchise that you loved... For many Star Wars fans the franchise was as iconic as Christmas itself... The excitement people get for the holidays was at par if not less than the excitement and joy that Star Wars fans got whenever they watched movies or bought merchandise... Yeah, while moral complexity can happen in star wars, the best you can do with the Jedi and Sith is having Jedi who are loosing their way and Sith with sympathetic motives or a redeeming feature/honor code. Jedi are good, at worst neutral. Sith are evil, at best a pragmatic evil, at worst just cruel and murderous for cruelty's and murder's sake.
We've now reached the point where flash parodies of legacy IPs made on NEWGROUNDS 20 years ago are objectively better made, and truer to the source material than actual pop culture.
I recently rewatched Highlander after a very very long time, I don’t have the words to describe how “huge” that movie is compared to what passes for movies today! Huge in creativity and content and just regular “things”, lived in things. highlander’s apartment alone…. There are more things in his apartment than all the things in all of the Disney Star Wars movies put together. You are subconsciously more afraid something bad will happen to them because they are physically weaker. Imagine Arnold instead of Clarice in Silence of the Lambs. My favorite part was when the lady went “it’s acolyting time” and acolyted all over the place, then went to Tattooine where she was researching midichlorians when she died. Truly a moment that was written and caused emotions.

That´s the last of their problems. Some animals don´t have eyelids, or their eyelids are transparent and permanently closed (fused together), so an alien who doesn´t blink is not absurd. What’s really funny is that film execs expect an audience of people who have read a novel/series to support a film/show adaption, but that is giving too much credit to average people. I guarantee that model will completely tank in the future because kids today are too obsessed with TikTok and Instagram to read anything in a book.
If modern writers want to "subvert expectations" - maybe they should write something that isn't trash, because that would be the most unexpected thing.
They're continually making shows based on the Star Wars extended universe that only die hard Star Wars fans would have any interest in, and at the same time, doing everything in their power to alienate those exact fans. Madness.

The fact remains they use the settings while actively dick punching the fans they should be aiming at hoping for it to explode to everyone else. Right now they are making nerd themed content aimed at purple haired hippos that do not know who Darth Vader is. It is why Disney is nosediving. It's akin to them making music aimed purely for deaf people.
One thing to keep in mind is that red lightsaber=darksider wasn't even established *out* of universe before Attack of the Clones. Dark Forces II had a group of darksiders with a mix of red, orange and blue sabers. Mysteries of the SIth had animated Sith statues as enemies in the final level and they use green lightsabers. In I, Jedi there's a group of force sensitive lightsaber wielders corrupted by Sith teachings and red is the one color they aren't shown using. The Tales of the Jedi comics also lacked a clear color coding. After Phantom Menace but before Attack of the Clones there was a minor EU Jedi who had a red lightsaber and when AotC established red lightsabers as a darkside thing the explanation was that he didn't think a group that had been gone for a thousand years should dictate who gets to use a color (but he did switch to another one when it was clear the Sith were back).
What was going on with Carrie Anne Moss?? She is OLD! Or older. She always was wooden. She could get away with it due to the fight scenes in the Matrix films. But she was very emotionless and cold. Even her face is cold and harsh looking and her eyes often have little warmth. When I saw her smiling and happy in the latest Matrix film I thought she just looked weird as there was no happy emotion in her eyes..
Throughout the Matrix trilogy, Neo progressively loses his emotions and becomes more like the machines. Trinity acts like a machine the entire time, I’m surprised she was never an agent.

I find it hilarious that this show has Sith in it when we know from Episode 1 that there wasn't any real contact with them in a thousand years. Who better than Harvey Weinstein's assistant to helm the story where the Sith's return has to be hidden away and ignored for the story to make any sense in continuity.
Rogue One / Andor didn't have lightsabers and people didn't mind about that. Same with original Mando. It's not the laser swords. It's the world you're building.
Rogue One had the Vader Hallway Scene. Mandalorian had the Dark Saber in the end credits. The lightsabers weren’t a vital part of the script, to be sure, but to say they weren’t there solely because it’s Star Wars is foolish imo.
@@antibull4869 the fact that you have to deep dive to find what is basically a cameo appearance by lightsabers makes my point. I'm not talking about them being entirely absent from every frame of the show. I'm telling about how there's more to the show than Jedi doing samurai stuff so the time, and you can have stuff far away from those battles that still feel very much like Star Wars. And you can just throw in lightsabers because you think Star Wars needs them, and entirely miss the mark.
True... Star Wars is an unbelievably vast intellectual property and the Jedi and Sith (based on samurai movies and culture) and Han Solo, Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Lando (based off Westerns) plus the element of rebellion and resistance fighters. . . And many more stories that could be told. The only other property that I can think of that was as popular and got wasted is *DC*

Few remember the names of the characters in it, but everyone who watched it remembers Darth Vader dismembering rebel fights in the hallway.

The problem with trying to sell your show with a bunch of cool lightsaber fights is that sabers are entirely meaningless anymore. Secondary characters getting barely grazed with a saber drop like a sack of potatoes, main characters stabbed through vital organs and impaled for several seconds walk it off. There are no stakes in a saber battle, they can do all the wire work and CGI they want to try to make them look cool but without a consistent and believable set of rules as to their lethality who really cares that the battle is happening in the first place?
I was wondering the same thing. Was that his family getting taken out in the trailer scene where the ship crashed? Will he just randomly be sitting on the floor in a black robe? Were those his relatives the Ewoks kept bonking Stormtroopers with in Return of The Jedi? So many unanswered questions about such a fascinating character.,

That would be quite a feat, because I don't think you can make a female clone from a male genetic donor, or vice versa. To even ATTEMPT to do something like that would require more advanced technology than either the Rebels or the Empire has.
@@sigmacademy Be easier to make a female clone from a male donor - remove the Y chromosome from the donor cell, duplicate the X chromosome and incubate with magic cloning tech. Vice versa would be impossible without engineering a Y chromosome into the donor cell. Of course, that's assuming these human-looking (but not actually human) aliens have the same chromosomal sex determination pattern as we do, among other things.

Putting aside that Disney has already broken movie continuity by ignoring that Darth Vader himself fought Obi-Wan with a blue lightsaber until Obi-Wan defeated him on Mustafar; I suspect that "Frozen meets Kill Bill" means something along the lines of "What if Elsa went on a murderous revenge rampage after the secret of her powers were revealed?"
