Fleabag is officially taking on Lara Croft as Amazon have announced that the TV series has been greenlit, and strangely enough, people didn't stand up and clap.
Well I mean Tbf, the original Lara Croft from the 90’s had very minimal instances of failing at her task whereas the 2010’s reboot had her failing over and over without learning. I feel a good balance for a solid tomb raider is one that is confident, intelligent and badass at what she does while making understandable mistakes that she learns from and builds her character more. Perhaps she makes a tough decision to leave a friend behind or go back for them if they split up by some falling debris as she walks into a cave. Maybe she opts to leave him behind at him behind, leading to his death or capturing by the enemy and she has to learn to deal with that guilt later on in the movie. Idk just spit-balling here
FWB is from a very privileged background. Her daddy is extremely wealthy. That's the best qualification for a high paid job at the BEEB. Diversity my ass.
If the old Tomb Raider games were so important to these people growing up, why are they so desperate to change everything about the property and character?
@@Trailerparkbubbles Oh man, I forgot about that line...Jesus, I now remember the first time I heard it I just didn't know who was she even referring to
Drinker, the problem with Phoebe Waller-Bridge is that she's become the go-to person that you call when you want to make your show or movie "Message Friendly". Just hiring her tells you what the producers intend.
But when you look at the things she's written herself, they're not propaganda, they're all quite nuanced. They have tough, flawed female characters, but they don't denigrate the male characters.
For the Drinker, the version with Alicia Vinkander was boring yet it was still ok! They should have cast her for a sequel... making a serie version for FWB is ridiculous! Her Indiana Jones's movie was 💩, just like her acting! They're just confirming that they are ok losing money with this fail and unpopular actress...
Drinker brought up the valid point that PWB hasn’t really done that much to warrant such a reputation. Outside of Fleabag, a show NOBODY heard of, and being involved in Solo and Indy 5, she hasn’t done ANYTHING. She’s been announced to be involved with stuff but has just taken the money and produced nothing. The only things I can say for sure is she’s an awful actress and a stupid narcissist who said yes to projects that are poisoned chalices. If anything, her involvement speaks more of the production team behind it rather than the quality of her work. She’s a red flag but not in the same way as a Marvel movie made by Sony.
To give you boys a different perspective: I'm a chick, a bit older so games like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil were on another level. And nearly every other woman I knew that played games, played TR. So, you can imagine how awful recent years have felt, seeing Lara just destroyed. From baby hand holding through the weird games to the travesty of every movie past the first Angelina one. So there ARE women who could write her and want to... but we're not woke so we won't be heard nor hired. Also, who else would want a true blue reboot of OG TR1 with only updated graphics and as few changes as possible for PS5? Because I do! That and Metal Gear 1 & 2 (PS) Remember boys, women who agree with you get silenced, so don't lose faith. We're out here.
I'm older too, and the funniest thing about the OG Tomb Raider that I remember was all of us gamers talking about how awesome the water looked in the game, NOT the character, which was kinda cartoony in the original. No one had ever seen water look so realistic in a game before. On PC it looked amazing.
Metal Gear 1 + 2 (ps) is solid. Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear 1 + 2 are Famicom games. Also also didn't MGS get remade already, on the GameCube, which people despised?
@@aldunlop4622 LOL yup! I only played it on PS, but was impressed but it was Resident Evil that nearly broke my brain. I *still* geek out about water on games though. Drives my kids nuts lol
@@mortimerreed I was typing a comment not a novella to MGS lol (I also wasn't aware this many people in the comments would know or care, so I'm pleasantly surprised) but yes, Game Cube did a remake, some 20 years ago. I liked it, except it shortened some of the story. Including my favorite (the Sniper Wolf ending) I never played the old Nintendo version, my introduction was Sons of Liberty on PS1 and I was hooked. These more recent ones though... meh. I did hear they're remaking Snake Eater, which is great but I'm not sure why he's not doing the first two MGS as well. 🤷🏻♀️
@@meganjkYou want to geek out on water? You should look into either World of Warships or Sea of Thieves (both PC), the sea in those games, SoT especially, is really good.
You'd think after Indy 5 that Pheobe Waller Bridge would be considered entertainment poison by now. But this is Hollywood after all, and when do they ever learn lol?
I’d have thought the money burning disaster that was Indy 5 would have buried her for good, but apparently female writers get an entirely different level of leeway for failure. Lucky us.
This is like continually trying to park your truck in your neighbor's lawn mower shed. It obviously isn't working, the neighbor is pissed and it's destroying the shed but you keep trying.
The irony is that 9 times out of 10 returning artifacts to their alleged "proper owners" almost certainly would have guaranteed the artifacts ended up on the black market or destroyed.
With the vast majority of artifacts, if it wasn't in somewhere like the British museum, no one would even know it existed. After all, it sat in the ground for thousands of years until we went looking for it. The locals would have broken up the Rosetta Stone to make small rocks for wall building if the "evil colonizers" hadn't saved it.
I met Goggins once, years ago, he was a super cool guy. We were at a coffee shop, we had a slightly awkward moment waiting in line (I made an awkward joke but didn't want to be all fan boy), anyway, he timed a cigarette break to catch me coming out when I was packing up to leave, and he chit-chatted with me for a few minutes, asked me lots of questions. He was just being cool because of the awkward moment we had, even though it was my fault. Cool guy, good guy.
Erm.....wtf are you talking about? 1: She wrote NOTHING for Solo and Dial of Destiny. It's not on her IMDB, it's not on the film's credits. 2: She was brought in (via Daniel Craig recommendation) for James Bond as a late-in-the-game co-writer after there were some script issues from Fukunaga's and Burn's draft (which itself was an expansion of Purvis and Wade's original script). She had a very minor influence on that script as she and Michael Wilson confirmed. 3: Do judge her for Fleabag and Killing Eve...both shows were her creations. Fleabag she wrote every episode. Killing Eve she wrote 4 episodes and had editorial say over all the others. Can we please stop spreading lies and misinformation over the internet....
@@owenarnold7611 I’m pretty sure you are incorrect about PWB’s contribution to James Bond. Craig and the producer brought her in to add her sensibilities to the dialog and the script in general. The producer, Michael Wilson has stated that PWB “shaped the entire plot” and that PWB had a “major contribution” which is in direct conflict to your assertions. @@roberttapley6425 having such a poor original script and premise that requires multiple writers is what ruins movies. The movie was ruined the moment they decided on a depressing and deconstruction mood.
Lara Croft went from being a beautiful voluptuous woman to looking like a 12 year-old boy in a tank top. Which, given what we know about our cultural elites, is probably what they're more into.
lol this is just not true. Her tits aren't as huge, but she does not at ALL look like a boy. The first reboot game from 2013 was ok, next one was not as good, then Shadow of the Tomb Raider just fell off, but people complaining about the body are just doing it at this point for something to stack on the pile.
Completely false. I heard this same shit hundreds of times on the Steam forums so I made an image that calculated her hip/waist ratio and the size of her breasts. Lara in Shadow of the Tomb Raider had pretty much the man's ideal desired shape for a woman's body. She was .81 hip/waist and at least a C cup despite being lean. Her arms had some definition but look at any video of female climbers and you will see the same thing.
I'm a fan of the original games and the reboots. Let's be honest, her character design was overblown for the originals. It absolutely worked and I loved it, but the reboots were going for a more realistic look and they nailed it. Trust me, she still looks like a sexy chic in the reboots (her "girls" are still rather large, especially for her frame) tho I will concede that she is slimmer hipped. Other than that, you're right that we seem to have a plethora of pdfs in entertainment and politics, don't we.
@Jac70 "uhhh ackshually!!" Your answer is dense. Compare the original Laras and their models (eg Nell Mcandrew) to the newest ones. Then tell me she's not now more similar to a teenage boy.
for as mediocre as the movies actually were, Angelina Jolie really nailed the character. Competent, confident, intelligent. Yeah, sexy as hell, but without flagrantly drawing attention to it. i'm sure Waller-Bridge will have at least one scene where Lara turns to the camera and tells us she's all those things in between the awkwardness and jokes that would have been clever 10 years ago.... but that's as close as we'll get.
This video is example of how the anti-Critical Drinker argument of "He just hates women" is bogus. CD pauses to figure out why PWB is so hated by the general audience instead of blindly joining the bandwagon. He even argues in her favour at points. Goes on to show how much ecochambers influence opinions.
Any criticism of wahmen, or any protected victim group, will be categorized as hate by the wokies. Either bow down amd worship or hate. According to them, those are your only two options.
@@jeffhartley7548 But the point is that there was an effort here to clarify why we react this way. Often we get so used to these things that we reflexively react to them, and its good to remind outselves WHY we dislike these things. This way it remains a rational reaction, rather than a purely emotional one.
I think most of the reaction against Waller-Bridge is that woke hollywood keeps pushing her forward as being so great so others have a knee-jerk reaction against her. It was made worse when she was going to be better than Indy Jones and replace him; that really angered people.
Everybody says : "I grew up watching and/or playing [insert Property name here], so it means a LOT to me, to be a part of this Project." Don't believe the lies, folks. It's all just a phony Marketing ploy to get you to buy into whatever they're selling you.
The problem with the 2010s Tomb Raider games is the first one was a bold and original idea, reboot/prequel showing an inexperienced Lara evolving into her iconic form, but then with the success of that one they just kept repeating it, putting her in survivalist situations where she evolves into what she should have already evolved in the end of the first game, her arc kept resetting instead of advancing. Then the last game, perhaps out of some Sweet Baby like interference, became afraid of being about a rich lady from London taking artifacts from other civilizations and we all know how that goes. 🙄
It's weird cuz I never played the old games but I actually thought the new games were great. Especially some of the stealth levels. And the different bows you would get and upgrade I don't understand the hate. But I guess I see your point on it being a kinda survival game.
In the 2013 reboot it made sense that you had to collect XP points and resources to build your gear, because it was the origin of Lara Croft. But in the 2 sequels it didn't fit that Lara was once again reset to novice and you had to do the gain XP & resources over again.
Yeah i really enjoyyed them too but i could feel the sweet baby creeping into the last one. And yeah, having to relearn what we learned in the previous game didnt make much sense as others have said. Still really well executed and great exploration. @@davidtreece3922
I played the uncharted games As well the story lines where good and the gaming was fun I noticed thay had made a movie on it but don't intend to sit watch it knowing how most of the memories of past films and shows have been destroyed thay even killed Bond off 😢
I blame DEI in the writers room just as much; take the Uncharted movie, yeah I wouldn’t have cast Tom Holland as Drake and I DEFINITELY wouldn’t have cast Marky Mark as Sully but even if they were perfectly cast the movie was so boring and generic and the girls were so bland and wooden that they seemingly couldn’t translate the VERY EASY (for modern Hollywood) tough diverse girlboss bad guy henchwoman who was basically the character from Uncharted 4 brought in way too early, work because they were all so poorly written that the movie is the premiere example of how boring modern Hollywood’s slop has become. Chloe’s character instead of a suave mix of Lara Croft and a 007 Femme Fatale, was just a brash annoying abrasive unfriendly “watch out for this MAN THING dude he’s like bad and stuff, I would know I’m a woman” who of course gets proven right ten seconds later in the modern Hollywood way, where she simultaneously gets to say “I told you not to trust him” so that they could say she was right, and also say “you shouldn’t have trusted me” because she’s a modern girlboss who don’t need no man. Go watch the intro for Uncharted 2 if you haven’t played the games and compare that to the character we got in the movie 😂😂😂
“Lara Croft meant a lot to me growing up.” That’s why I’m going to change absolutely everything about her to the point of where she’s only a shadow of her former self.
Screwing up Tomb Raider is like messing up a bacon cheeseburger. Its such a perfect and simple combination you'd have to TRY to wreck it. A beautiful, buxom aristocrat who travels the world, exploring elaborate ruins and stealing treasure. That is literally it. If that combination bothers you then just make / play something else. It'd be like saying you're going to make a bacon cheeseburger, but without bacon, cheese, or hamburger meat.
It isn't about making a bacon cheeseburger. It's about making a soy bug burger that you will hate. Why? Because they want to destroy everything you like.
PWB years ago would’ve gone from Fleabag and Killing Eve, to some SNL cast romcom movies, maybe even working with say Ricky Gervais or Will Farrell or Kevin Hart, as some odd pairing mash-up. Or Sandra Bullock as the plucky sidekick character. She literally got cast in Star Wars (Solo), Indy 5, Bond 5, and now Tomb Raider after TR flopped. It makes no sense, it’s like giving a kid who won a biology regional science fair a lead position at the WHO.
Her charisma and wit is perfect for comedies, I can imagine if she could stop smiling it would even work for thrillers, but action? Just what the hell were they thingking casting her for that, and why did she accept is still beyond me. I love Fleabag and it's just heartbreaking knowing her work just how much her reputation is hurting from this brainrot decisions.
Never ceases to amaze me how these franchises are such a huge part of these celebrities loves, but we never find that out until well *after* they’ve signed multi million dollar contracts.
This Despot fella is right, as an englishman seeing phoebe waller bridge anywhere action, sci fi, or anywhere in between just doesnt work. She would work in a rom com or even a serious gritty british drama but dont put her in anything else.
That is her element. I remember watching her own show, fleabag. It was surprisingly solid in terms of writing and character work, even if it was a very... femcellish oriented lmao. It's got nuance.
Phoebe Waller-Bridges does have some other Hollywood presence. She had a hand in the original treatment of Captain Marvel. She wrote, and acted, the part of the feminist Droid in Solo. She was brought in to make Bond more feminist. And she ruined Indiana Jones. Yea.. I wonder why she isn't liked. Star Wars, MCU, Bond, Indy, and now Tomb Raider. They keep hiring her because all the wine aunts love her, and that's 80% of Hollywood executives these days.
I'm getting Sarkeesian "I've always been a gamer" vibes. Honestly, I have more respect for the lady from Madame Web who admitted she only saw like two of the movies. Sure, it's admirable for an actor to study the source material, but I think the writers and directors are the ones most responsible for knowing the character and writing them in a way that comports with their history. I dunno why the actors have to pretend they have this deep connection with the source material.
@@Valen-mh9fh ahh I see. I assumed she was playing the title character or otherwise an actress in the show. I don't really stay on top of new media releases because I know better than to get excited for anything anymore.
The Hollywood push for PWB to be a mainstream star and a new Sigourney has always bewildered me. It's reached the point of desperation that she be an action star.
I'm assuming those are things she did as an actor. I have to say I've never heard of her until The Dial of Destiny. She may be on your radar, but I will probably safely say a majority of people have no clue as to these works.
Despot, you are the first other guy i've heard say that. 100% famke janssen as xenia onatopp was my adolescent awakening. Everything from the entrance in the F355, to the steam room scene to her end scene, utterly incredible for a 12 year old boy.
"Vikander was in better shape than Jolie ever was" ?? uhh, if by that you mean Vikander is skinny af. I did not believe a single "stunt" she did in that movie, because she would not be able to lift her own weight, no matter how small it is. Jolie had THE body, and she worked out like hell for the TR movies! She was the perfect real life Lara Croft!
I have a lot of time for Alicia Vikander, she's a gorgeous woman but she just didn't have the build for Lara Croft. Wiry and emaciated is not what Lara is. It would be like having Timothy Chalamet play Superman.
To be fair to her, she DID get in great shape for that movie. She packed on muscle for it, but she is still a petite woman so she looked wiry and harder than her video game counterpart. I remember the scene where she's pulling herself up on the plane and you can see all the muscles in her back moving. She looked like she could parkour (forgive my spelling) but not take out a man in a fight. After that role, she said it took only 2 months for her to lose that cut look and she had lots of respect for actors who could keep in such great shape, but she couldn't maintain it. Angelina Jolie is just one of God's most beautiful creations and just about anything she does, she looks amazing doing it. EVERY actress is gonna come up short next to her lol Even today!
Laura raided tombs for the same reason Indy went on adventures. To seek and preserve history. Also Laura ends up with having to destroy artifacts that are dangerous. Plus how will Hollywood fair when she will get compared to the Angelina Jolie movies? The best reboot we had were the games that had her based on Jolie design where it was a great update to the character.
Unfortunately, this is why the success of the Mario Movie was a bad thing … it was too early … Now we get to watch our most wanted video game franchises be adapted to fit “THE MESSAGE” …
@@Knight_Kin Wall-E is a kid’s movie! Lion King is a kid’s movie! The Great Mouse Escape is a kid’s movie! Saying it’s a kids’ movie is irrelevant to this conversation. Good Kids’ movie are loved by adults. And as an adult, I enjoyed the Mario movie. So everything you said is irrelevant.
As an estimation ... 90% of best directors are men. 80% of directors are wht (US) 90% of best directors are wht. 95% of directors are str8. 90% of best writers for certain genres are men. That's why trying to avoid men, wht and str8 people makes movies 90% worse.
What would you base this estimation of? Because most directors are men due to how the movie industry has been set up, which would also technically apply to America given its an 85% white country. 90% of the best directors just aren't white, at all. 95% of the best directors are straight because 95% of people are straight. And what's your source on the final statistic? It's not even that I'm not willing to bet this is true, but you're lack of sources leaves your argument null.
I love the logic here. People hated waller-bridge in Indiana Jones which lost a lot of money. So let's cast her in a similar role like tomb raider so people can hate her more and we can lose more money.
I hate when they say they're "fans" and yet are totally fine being involved in something that destroys the story/characters, no real fan would be part of something like that, I'm Mexican and grew up in the 90's with all the great superhero cartoons and yeah I didn't see any character like me, except this syndicated Zorro cartoon, but even back then I never wanted any of my favorites to be changed in anyway.
Ever seen a politician hype a local sports team, when it's clear they've never watched a game in their lives? That's what this is. It's pathetic and cringworthy.
Lara Croft's story is about a incredibly attractive (well endowed), psychotic, snooty British chick who runs around robbing tombs and waving twin pistols in everyone face. Man she was even more crazy in the HD era games. "Where is my motherrrrr!!!?!?!". And we loved it, we ate it up! Girls and Boys alike! This Amazon thing is going to fail harder than the Tomb Raider movie based on the Reboot* that did so poorly no one even realized it came out.
What a sad age we live in to see the things we grew up with subverted, one after another. I was sixteen when the first Tomb Raider game came out back in 1996. I was far too impulsive to realize what a great time that was before the Age of Subversion and Social Media. We'll always have the classics but it's a damn shame we can't continue those classics in a way that honors the core of what they were, of adding to them in some way without the current day rhetoric that only serves to send bile spewing up my throat and out my mouth and onto the poor unfortunate soul unlucky enough to be standing anywhere close to me.
It was the Tomb Raider franchise's Casino Royale.. but you can only do that once. They didn't really move on. Three games later she still doesn't have her twin pistols, that's like if Daniel Craig was still waiting for the Bond theme to play at the end of film three.
"If i could tell my teenage self this was happening, i think shed explode." Ok peeps, we urgently need to invent time machine and send Phoebe back in time.
I actually enjoyed the rebooted Tomb Raider games. They all kind of fell apart towards the end, but in general I thought that they were quite fun action-adventure games. But the particular way that they tried to make a more 'serious' Lara resulted in a much less interesting character. All the alternative costumes mostly involved different kinds of tank tops and combat trousers. It was almost painful how careful they were to try and keep her as sexless as possible. As far as the new Amazon Tomb Raider show goes, I'd have little faith in it even without Phoebe Waller-Bridge's input. There's no reason I can think of that anyone should expect anything other than the usual Hollywood sausage-factory fare.
They're not promoting on her 'new beauty standard': they're pushing her as 'women don't need to be sex symbols, they are clever, funny and strong like men, now'. And of course she isnt. She's shit.
Tomb Raider is easy Hollywood. Here is what a good producer would do... You offer Sydney Sweeney a huge payday to play Lara. Get her a voice coach and give her the Taran Tactical treatment a la John Wick. Get her coaches and give her 6 months so she can develop some strength and muscle tone so she looks at least a bit more convincing as a mountain climber (core, squats and legs so she looks like she can develop power into strikes). Have pros teach her martial arts (mostly just boxing and some okinawan hard-style karate like Uechi Ryu for example so she has that signature sanchin breathing technique and looks powerful when she strikes, a little ju jutsu ground work so she knows the fundamentals of controlling opponents, how to crab up, fight from the ground, get free and back to her feet etc. and a few signature taekwondo kicks that look good on film like a simple Chuck Norris style roundhouse, step turn back kick, axe kick, 360 crescent kick, jump spin hook, spinning wheel kick etc.) and gymnastics (make sure she is AT LEAST capable of doing a kip-up, which we wanna see her do on film cuz it's never not cool af). Get someone to write a script with great dialog so she comes off smart, badass and sexy af (i also want at least 2 epic 80's action era-esque one-liners that the cameraman can hold on her for a a bit after something happens like she is thinking about saying it and then goes "aww f*ck it" and delivers the line with a wry grin anyway). Assemble a gigachad martial arts, stunt and gunfight choreography team (especially find her a body double that you can get away with on longer distance shots that is capable of tricking so you can add a little coolness in during foot chases, no obvious parkour stuff just some cool acrobatics and whatnot sprinkled in so she comes off as able as hell). Hire an armourer with the sense to outfit her with a pair of National Match Springfield V16 45 Super Long Slide 1911's (bonus points if you throw in a scene of her loading them with G9 Defense 45 ACP +P 117 gr External Hollow Points). Hot load all her blanks so they really kick and bark too, no CGI except to get rid of the crimping on the blanks as they eject in slow mo shots or something. Oh i forgot we should also have some room clearing scenes with an MP5 so she needs some time spent training in a kill house with some high speed cool guys as well. Put her in the iconic costume Alison Laura Carroll wore only make it look better (change the shirt to olive drab green so it looks more practical/tactical), use more spandex and give her a proper battle belt and tactical drop leg holsters (with resin pistol duplicates so they don't swing all crazy when she's running like they would with those big heavy 45s in them). Put her in a pair of Rocky S2V Tactical Military Boots and Mechanix M-Pact Fingerless Covert gloves. Braid her hair. Then just have the whole movie be about her being a hot and sexy wrench in the works of all these other parties trying to acquire various artifacts, you wanna set everything up Art of War style so she is always smarter, better, faster, always a step ahead so they are making all these plans but the audience knows when Lara shows up all hell will break loose and they'll end up with a huge body count cuz she just doesn't give a f*ck. Make her the living embodiment of the IASIP phrase: "WILDCARD BITCHES, YEE-HAW!" By the end of the film they should be infuriated with and half scared of her saying sh*t like "how f*ckin hard is it to kill one dumb b*tch?" lol Then all you need is a cameraman and DP that understand this is all about watching her operate. Like a racehorse at a dead run or a big cat pouncing on prey. Oil her up like a bodybuilder so she catches the light, add a couple prosthetic nipple pasties so her nips always look hard, and bring rolls and rolls of double sided tape to keep her tits from popping out of her shirt every two minutes and embrace the gainaxing as she kicks ass and takes names. It also needs to be R-rated so there can be lots of ppl getting shot, blood everywhere, cursing, innappropriate comments and conversations, nudity and just violence in general. Make it for adults ffs. Make her a violent sociopath that just dominates every bad guy with no ham-fisted feminist sh*t shoved in ruining it for everyone. She doesn't need to be a good guy, just better than all the rest of them so we don't feel bad about watching her smoke em all. Make them all vicious PMC types that prey on the locals and do whatever they want with impunity. Make em all racist/xenophobic, mysogynist, homophobes if you want so long as it isn't some allegory painting the fans as the enemy and it's not all straight white men while everyone else are portrayed as better and nobody will consider it woke and boycott it. Give ppl what they want. We wanna see her running, jumping and roll around fighting and grunting, beating and choking ppl to death, plugging motherf*ckers and stealing sh*t lol. Every red blooded man in the audience should be at half mast throughout the entire film and all the women should be thinking "damn...that's f*ckin hot". Show everyone that sex still sells.
You can easily plug the plot hole of "Why don't they just quit?" by having each group of PMC scum be a different group and thus they irrationally stick to it because they're racist and refuse to let 'lesser beings' have whatever the artifact(s) is(are). This also keeps them at each other's throats narratively, lets you pile on a diverse cast that's not token for the extras roles and keeps the audience instantly aware of what group a given PMC thug is with even if your costume department fails at giving them good 'uniforms'.
I'm to the point where, even if they get the best writers and directors and actors and graphics team and stunt team and everything the best they can possibly find, I still don't trust it to be a good product. They'll find a way to screw it up. It happens every time.
Although it's a female lead character, I'd be pretty certain which sex would be the primary demographic for a proper Tomb Raider film. Bridge is a bit like Zeggler in the sense that studios inexplicably want her to be a thing, despite no apparent interest from the paying customer. Maybe Tomb Raider will finally be the end of her when she makes a mess of it? She likely avoided blame for Indy, being viewed as more an actress than anybody in control of it. She can then move to doing Christmas adverts for M&S.
It's kinda sad cuz Bridge *could* be a charismatic character actor. If she wasn't so abrasive, she could be offbeat and charming but you throw in Current Year garbage and it makes her unwatchable. I mean, she isn't a troll. She's not a great beauty but she's pretty and interesting looking. Attitude and personality is important and I really think too many actors have forgotten that.
Well, there was one part of he remasters that definitely wasn't praised. They had a screen that warned of "offensive depictions of people and cultures rooted in racial and ethnic prejudices".
@@ghost198810Ha! Noticed that too, did you? He was from New Zealand in the first game (I think), the second game he was black and the 3rd he looked like he was a big Samoan/Mexican. At least he wasn't a complete purse holder in the 3rd game, tho it was my least favorite one of the 3.
Yeah they seemed pretty nervous by the time they made Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Considering how basic the civilization was in the hidden city, I guess they were trying to get ahead of the critics.
Rhona Mitra was a Lara Croft model when she was young; she’s an actress who can handle weapons convincingly, and she should have played the role on screen, IMO.
I liked the second game. But then, the Byzantine Empire history has always interested me. The 3rd game was a bit of a slog. Don't know if it was the over the top "save the world" bs or the culture it was representing. I mean, in the 2nd game you had a society that built wondrous temples and buildings and cities to a hidden city in south America that never got much past the stone age.
Yes, Angelina Jolie nailed the character. She performed her as an adrenaline junkie introvert, which works so well for Lara and her backstory. That's closer to Lara than reboot game Lara ever was to her.
We don't really know what happened with Solo (A Star Wars Tale), given that most of the original film that Lord and Miller had shot got re-shot. So are the Robot Rebellion plot with its enormous implications for the SW universe, the haunting presence of Fembot in the Millennium Falcon, and pansexual Lando- Lord/Miller's fault, Ron Howard's fault, or PWB's fault?
No shade intended for the Drinker, but once again Nerdrotic proves that he is the most insightful thinker in this group. His brief analysis that Phoebe Waller Bridge is a character actress currently being over hyped because she has the correct politics is spot on. As always Gary is concise, insightful and dead on target.
Let's not forget that actors choose which roles they play in. Hollywood may cast Phoebe, but it's up to her to accept the role. Most actors won't play a role they don't like or don't think they can pull off. Hollywood casts Phoebe Waller-Bridge because she likes the characters they give her.
Once they reach a certain point in their popularity, they can dictate to the studios and producers what types of roles they want to play and the studios will accomidate them because they're such cash cows.
Tomb Raider used to have a male audience. Since the 2013 reboot, it was highly aimed at female players. With that change, the lore changed as well. No longer was she trying to seek out mysteries like her dad found in far away tombs. Now she is trying to save her friends and the world. The wokification of Tomb Raider started when they developed the reboot.
If I remember correctly PWB was showrunner on the early seasons of Killing Eve, back when the show was still very good. Take that into account and it makes much more sense why she's that well regarded.
