Drinking hand sanitizer and such, Living with liver disease 

I lost the love of my life 2 years ago from a fent od. I tried so hard to get him into a sober living and he wound up getting kicked out for 3 days for drinking hand sanitizer. I miss him so much but I’m glad he’s no longer suffering. He’ll always be my literal hero..got me clean and saved my life in 2015. Your voice is very calming and your whole story in general is so inspiring. Keep it up, we love to see it!

I am so disappointed in myself! Made 5 days (i am not a heavy heavy drinker but problematic) i felt so good the last days and now i am four smalls beer in and can’t understand why… WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF? I learned that drinking more than 5 drinks in less than 2 hours is considered binge drinking, bruh, when I was drinking 5 was an appetizer. The party was just getting started.

Drinking alcohol should be looked upon the same as drinking hand sanitizer. The human body shouldn't be drinking either!

Perfume, after shave, I lived in Columbia in the middle 70s and worked at a Dairy Queen and my manager relapsed and drank all that in the house,

I drank marsala wine (normally for cooking) once I'm sure I threw up and never did it again but nothing other than that as far as non booze forms of alcohol thank God. My neighbor who is a friend is in the hospital with ascites, jaundice and most likely dts. Please say a prayer for him thank you!

I was drinking ethyl alcohol rubbing alcohol 70%. Was drinking that when I was drunk already. Wanted to continue my own self party. It was the scented type and it was just pure stupid for me.

My uncle who was a severe alcoholic and eventually died of cirrhosis of the liver would drink potpourri when he couldn’t get alcohol

My story is very long! Long story short, I was warned many times by doctors to stop drinking. In and out of emergency rooms. Wouldn't listen. Became extremely dependent and would hallucinate and have seizures if I tried to stop so I kept on. If I was awake I was drinking. Diagnosed with ESLD cirrhosis of liver. Couldn't walk, couldn't even stand. Swollen. Stuck to a chair or bed. Luckily received a new liver and now a new man. I'm 41 years old and the transplant was just 7 months ago. DRINKING ISNT WORTH IT! If you can't stop because of dependency go to hospital and ask for medical help with withdrawals that will come. It's not easy but It also isn't worth it to keep on, trust me. I have rifled around the bottle bin. Full of bottles hoping I could find a bottle with half a mouthful I forgot about to keep me going until the shops open. That’s my lowest I can remember never could I do sanitizer or extracts man. No way.

ETOH, which is ethanol. Effects GABA receptors in your stomach which makes you feel bad the next day. The Receptors are gone(for anxiety). Most individuals who drink a lot have anxiety, do to the fact those receptors get erased after drinking

LD I'm proud of you for staying strong and spreading the word. Happy 4th. I promised you I would tell you about my sister-in-law. She had her transplant a1 month ago. She was walking the next day. Her daughter gave her 65% of her liver. She can eat regularly again. It was a 12 hr operation. A true miracle. You are truly an inspiration. Its cathy, peter's wife.

Happy Fourth, LD. I have never really been triggered by holidays. My problems stem from anxiety. I know where you are coming from, though. Beer and flags are everywhere. I have drunk cooking wine before. It is full of salt and awful. That happened a few times on a Sunday morning to chase away withdrawal until noon.

The problem with temptation is not alcohol but the food offered. A lot of bread and pies, cakes, baked beans . That stuff is not good if you have Cirrhosis.

Love you back! Really appreciate the steady drumbeat of reminders about how bad alcohol is. I could actually have one drink today or get totally hammered and it wouldn't destroy my life. In fact, getting drunk would only remind me why I don't drink rather than sucker me in to more. But I really appreciate your continued reminders of what a bad product alcohol is. Your videos have made me realize that just because I can drink moderately, for moral reasons, I need to take a stand. Am I on the side of the purveyors of death or am I on the other side? You have helped me choose to be on the other side, the sober side, as an act of solidarity and morality, and perhaps to "honor" the alcoholics in my life who didn't fare well. For me, putting even one nickel into the alcohol industry anymore is wrong. For me, creating the impression among impressionable people that alcohol is "no big deal" is wrong. I now strongly believe that I must firmly take sides. I really appreciate that your videos have encouraged me to take sides with total sobriety. I hope this tiny act of solidarity has some positive karmic ripple somewhere. Thanks for all you do to educate against alcohol and to encourage compassion and awareness. 👏🙏🌺🙂

I've never been to the point of drinking anything that would normally be classed as "dangerous". I know that when the pandemic started in 2020 that hospitals were having trouble with alcoholics coming in and because of the over abundance of hand sanitizer they were drinking that.

NyQuil is something people used to drink. I don’t know if it still has alcohol in it but it used to.

Back in the 1970s an older man would buy liquid shoe polish. I finally asked someone and he would stain it and drink it! Ugh!!

Hi in poland some people drank is call denaturat which can be use to clean oils grims cars parts barbecue so is very havy duty and they drink for many years the question is what kind of liver they have a guess super heavy duty till she gave up .take care.eric from Michigan

Never hand sanitizer but yeah I chugged Listerine. Surprised me you never mentioned that one through the whole video. Listerine did do the trick although I think the buzz was not as “clean” as usual.

I used to see kids breathing in pam cooking spray for a quick high , was creepy

My grandfather made his own „Schnaps“ it is a big deal here in europe. The first bit of it is called „vorlauf“ and it is basically like rubber alcohol They get extremely drunk on the „tasting“ and inhaling the fumes it was a madness. People paid more for the „vorlauf“ because they used it as a medicine… (toothpain, rub it on sore etc..)

There was another intervention episode the lady would only drink Listerine , also perfume I’ve seen

I have seen that several times with people that have had gastric bypass. That intervention, the guy had had a gastric bypass. Gallbladder removal and gastric bypass I think does some crazy things to critical hormones and functions in the body. They will have a lot of non-food cravings too like to eat dirt, etc..

Can go through skin also. Liver disease I don't put ANYTHONG on my skin .clean with water .we can't have any chemicals near us. Happy 4th yall❤

I recently watched a video about a poor reservation here in the states where alcohol is prohibited (yet very heavily bootlegged), and some mix the cheap vodka with *antifreeze* to "stretch it". But makes sense that it has alcohol in it since alcohol doesn't freeze.. plus I know it tastes "sweet" and therefore should stay out of reach of dogs.. But can't imagine!

Remember those powder alcohol products that were in the news a while ago? They were marketed as "just add water" products but there was a concern that kids would snort them so I don't think they ever became commercially available.

Hey LD - hope you have a safe 4th of July. I know what you mean with the alcohol displays with American 🇺🇸 flags. As if drinking alcohol makes you patriotic. It’s crazy! I’ve seen the intervention episode with the hand sanitizer it was so hard to watch. Similarly, people will use air dusters to get ⬆️. It’s extremely sad and disturbing but when you’ve gotten to that point it’s a cry for help. I hope anyone doing that seek help because it will kill you or leave you in a psychosis state. I’ve seen people pound cough syrup, I’ve never done any of that as I was always too afraid (thankfully). This is a very important topic for awareness. I hope everyone who celebrates today, will just enjoy the time off with a 🧊 cold non-alcoholic beverage.

Unreal! The extent some folks will go to. I've heard about the hand sanitizer before. Never knew about vanilla extract...shocker. Really got to be desperate.

In albuquerque people spray hairspray into a cup and mix it with a.flavored drunk. They refer to it as ocean water. Stay safe friend and continue to fight the good fight

Thanks for your videos - they help so much. Luckily never resorted to this myself but mirin (a Japanese cooking sauce/wine sold near soy sauce section) is another one. Actually it’s age-checked here in uk.

My first job in the 1970s was in a hardware store and we had a few customers who bought or stole Sterno - the jellylike stuff in small cans that you light on fire to warm food in a buffet line - and they would pour it through slices of bread to make it "safe" and then would then drink it. The internet describes the product as an alternate form of denatured alcohol, so I guess the abuse of it was inevitable. They discontinued the sale of the item in our store after the owner realized how it was being abused.

Top shelf or bottom shelf, it’s all the same. No one has ever gotten a better form of liver failure because they drunk the expensive stuff

I remember watching a documentary where a lady drank mouth wash and got banned from her local liquor store and regular store because she abused alcohol so badly. I can't even imagine. And yes, people would soak tampons in vodka and put them up the back end.

You gotta watch the intervention with the girl that drinks mouthwash by the boatload its right up there with the hand sanitizer one. Unbelievable the lengths we go through

I think the worst thing I did is stop drinking cause it made me sick and finish the drink when I woke up the next day. It is pretty sad to drink a third of a beer that spent the night on the counter before breakfast or coffee. The simple fact that it is there makes you feel obligated to drink it.

11:04 I might have mentioned this before but Stephen king was a drunk and he ran out of booze one night when he was up late writing . He started drinking his mouth wash that is meant for tooth brushing !

Mouth washes and Nyquil have alcohol in them.

I had a "gallon of vodka" friend back in the day. He's dead.

Don't know I never drank anything crazy just beer..... Alot of Beer. But Folks Holy H3!! If you are so addicted you are drinking stuff like this or just can't slow down or stop it's mandatory that you get help and stop or you are not gonna live long. There is no shame in getting help but I can tell you first hand there is definitely shame when you are laying in a hospital bed with family around you because you have drank yourself to the ER. Just tell your family that you need to go away for help (which they already know btw) and tell your boss the truth and most likely they will hold your job for if you are a good worker and I believe there are even laws stating they must do so. Go get it over with and once you are better you will have no problem catching up on everything.

Here in Australia its very common for people especially indigenous or aboriginals to drink hand sanitisers. Often they are banned from liquor stores for drunken or bad behaviour so they resort to sanitisers.

I heard the fellow who was addicted to hand sanitizer ended up dying from it at a very young age. I don't even think he made it to 30. This was awhile ago too. I've had friends do stupid shit like drink mouthwash to get drunk because they wanted to still get drunk because it was after hours where everything stopped selling and serving.

I feel almost lucky my addiction was OxyContin when that stuff was being given out like candy in the early 2000s. It was EVERYWHERE. I had dozens of connects. Horribly debilitating addiction. But, it was pure. It didn’t hurt me. That’s the one upside to prescription opiate addiction. If it doesn’t contain acetaminophen and it’s just pure opiate like OxyContin was, there isn’t really any long term damage. Aside from never being able to use painkillers like a normal person, I don’t have any residual damage from my years of abuse. I don’t think I would be so lucky if it has been alcohol, coke or meth.

Very interesting topic! Sadly, drinking other products to get intoxicated is a common thing among really bad alcoholics. I first became aware of this when I went to AA, but I never thought it would happen to me. However, when I was at my worst, I did try things like hand sanitizer, mouthwash, almond extract and cough syrup to get my fix. Most of these worked for me, but they tasted horrible! Especially hand sanitizer which I only tried once, and all it did was make me violently ill! Luckily, I never did it again! I never drank rubbing alcohol though because apparently, it's not the type of alcohol designed for drinking, and it probably would not have ended well for me. Maybe the bread filters out something like you said in this video about the gentleman who drank rubbing alcohol strained through bread, who knows? It's crazy what people will do to get intoxicated. There was a story a while back about some girls from my high school here who would wear vodka soaked tampons to school so they could get drunk without anyone smelling alcohol on their breath!! 😳Well, now that I'm sober, I don't have to worry about taking such extreme measures anymore, it's totally not worth it! Mouthwash is a popular one, and from what I understand definitely a lot safer than hand sanitizer though I could be wrong. Nyquil I know also is about 10% ABV so you could technically get a buzz from that. The worst thing I ever drank was the grocery store cooking wine. It was the only thing in the house and I couldn't sleep so I poured it into a glass and drank it. It's not unsafe I don't think, but that stuff is so unbelievably salty, it's like drinking salt water. Absolutely disgusting but that's really the only thing I ever drank that isn't made to be drank.

The nastiest things ever drank while drinking. #1 some mr. Boston #2 then I met Mrs. Boston... at a dive...sloped body fluids....

Just after leaving school my son worked in a mall. A homeless man 'passed out' on the floor and the security guard called him an ambulance. On arrival, the homeless man stole all the hand sanitisers in A&E and did a runner.

I drink alcohol, then have 2 redbulls or other energy drinks straight after. The alcohol would give me euphoria, but I am a tired drunk. So I need the energy drink to get the full effect I also drink relatively small amounts of listerine, which is primarily to cover alcohol smell at work, but also adds to effect

In Canada the government legalized weed years ago .they grow it sell it and make a ton of tax revenue. I don't think more peaple are smoking weed because of it.
