People were going to the film expecting a Fast and Furious action-fest, but this scene immediately sets the tone and pace of the film that they're going to experience.
The first 5 minutes of this movie is much more serious than the whole Fast and furious franchise lol 😂. I wonder what Vin Diesel has to say about this movie
This scene is cinematic bliss. Everything is perfect. The cinematography, the lighting, the shots and the music especially. Drive is such an underrated movie.
- gets standing ovation at Cannes - best film of 2011 according to Rolling Stone - best film of 2011 according to the Chicago Sun-Times - best film of 2011 according to Empire - nominated for an Academy Award - nominated for four BAFTAS - inspires a popular video game - has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes - anyone who criticises the film is dismissed for not understanding it "Drive is such an underrated movie"
I head nightcall in some video I knew instantly I heard it in a movie once. Didn't take me a while to find it cause I completely forgot it existed but this movie is a masterpeice. I hate myself for forgetting
this movie really connected with something in most guys. i don't think it's just engines and automobiles here. i think it has something to do with the way the actor feels pain. like this silence on his face even though he's collapsing inside. I think it's that part where most guys can identify with and feel empathy for.
This scene so perfectly conveys such loneliness and tedious routine; you can feel without words his weariness, doing the same thing day in, day out, being alone and empty...such a beautiful scene for such a black-hole feeling.
MUST SEE!!!!! People I just made THE BEST FAN VIDEO about this song really trust me it is cool AF REALLY, it took me a lot of time but it was worth here is the link so can you go an check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lYTbMqPRe4w.html
If you're looking for something with this sort of atmosphere/music, check out Cold In July, The Guest, Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon when it comes out on blu ray
***** The music, the jacket he wears, the noir elements of the story/cinematography, and it was a film dedicated entirely to action, which was something that the movies in the 80s emphasized highly on because blockbusters were number one priority for studios at that time.
I could totally relate to the part where he got in his apt, looked around, dropped his duffle bag and got right back out. I knew how he felt. Been there, done that.
Turco949 I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone felt the same way I did. I just got back from a late night drive to nowhere. I might go out again.
Is it sad that when I drive through deserted city centre of London at 3am, I play this song loudly and for 4 minutes and 17 seconds i imagine I'm Ryan Gosling?
+EleOnora It's not underrated. It's not as mainstream as blockbusters, but it's still pretty known. Also underrated means a lot of people don't like it, but in actuallity almost everyone who saw it loves it.
+Taste The Doom he's actually spot on. Just because it didn't make hundreds of millions at the box office doesn't make it unknown. Was well received critically and has a good following.

I agree with you but have you seen Heat with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer. Gta V took lots of inspiration from this movie. If you haven't seen it, it is definitely worth a watch. (If you have finished Gta V you'll watch Heat and have dejavu)
Drive is one of the best movies ever made, and it's one of my all-time favorites. The opening scene, in particular, is sensationally thrilling and hauntingly hypnotic. The movie boasts of great music, great acting, great direction, and great cinematography.
Well said! Nightcall as well as the rest of the songs in the movie's soundtrack are used perfectly to aid the film's storytelling. I did a video essay on this topic for one of my school projects. So, if you love "Drive" and its soundtrack, maybe you'd like to check out the essay. Please do and let me know what you think. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks guys :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-izs7i1yxZbI.html
I rented this movie a couple nights ago thinking it was gonna be good, which it is, but I was really expecting a lot of action which it completely lacks, but me personally it’s not worth buying or watching again.

And that kids is how you make a opening! It’s shows the world, the loneliness and darkness of the driver.. Definitely one of the best openings in movie history❤️
I used to do this after going out with friends, dates, etc. I would drive for a couple of hours. Everyone thought it was weird. Then one day a buddy called all excited because this movie portrayed that "driving thing" I did every night.
Sometimes it's just nice to take a drive at night. Not many cars around, nice breeze during summers. Music is the only thing you hear besides the wind. Relaxing. Sometimes instead of going home after work, I'll just continue driving to the highway and just go across the island of Montréal at like 2 am. Real nice
@@SirBigWater Well said. My father used to go to Montreal for work and always said it was a beautiful place. I don't get to do it as much with a family at home, but sometimes, I take the "long way" home.
@@LonelySoapbox It's not too bad. Driving in the downtown area though, that's just garbage in my opinion. Too narrow. I live near an airport, so I just drive up the highway and just see all the nice lights is just calming.
Will never forget seeing this movie for the first time at the cinema. Great opening sequence and then this intro, man i was so mesmerised. What a feeling.

>the driver from Drive (2011) >works multiple jobs >comes home to an empty apartment >Doesn't/can't sleep so drives at night >No friends, no girlfriend >Only woman he has a shot with is a desperate single mother LITERALLY ME
I like so much the phrase: I 'am gonna show you where it's dark, but have no fear. So many meanings i can put to that phrase, related to the movie and to life.

I know that feeling. Going to your Apartment, leaving your stuff there and then going out again. I know what he feels there. I guess you know what i mean. I bet you had the same feeling some days :) and you will maybe have it again, like i will do. Best Opening ever..
This scene is a masterclass in cinematography. I hope they use this scene as a teaching tool in cinematography classes all over the world, cause we need more scenes like this. The lights, the colors, the camera angles... I'm in love with this shit.
The Visuals are just eyewatering. The Focus plane in the first shots seams impossible....thin as a hair, impossible to reproduce. This is the real art of film making.
EVERYTHING is perfect in this scene, everything. I love this, the way the shots correspond with the beat. how the credits flash when the beat comes.. one moment thats done so well is when Ryan turns off the light in his room, its synched perfectly with the beat of the song and then moves on to the next shot.. its little things like that that add to the amazing directing 👌👌
+Sir Byrns watch the trailers they used to market the movie. It was being sold as something it wasn't. I absolutely love this movie but if I was more of a fan of the movie depicted in the trailers, then the actual movie itself would have been a disappointment.
As someone who didn't watch the trailer before seeing _Drive_, I thought the movie was a bit too slow. My only expectations were derived from the fact that the movie was an inspiration for the game _Hotline Miami_, so I was actually disappointed that there wasn't more violence. Plus I didn't enjoy the soundtrack too much, but I've been listening to it recently in order to warm up to it. I've been meaning to re-watch the film in the hopes that my mind'll be changed.
Well there's your bias. The film was a character study more than anything else or an adaptation of a fable. The bursts of extreme violence, to me, feel like a glimpse into the personality the Driver was running away from. Hotline Miami on the other is literally in your face about the violence and the depravity of your apparent enjoyment of that violence because you're forced to look at all of the death and gore you've caused in near silence after each level.
Refn is such a underrated director.Drive was his best movie indeed and recieved some nice critics too but it must be in at least top 50 movies of history.Only God Forgives was a great art film and it is VERY underrated. Many critics criticized the movie as a normal movie.Valhalla Rising was also a very powerful religion-themed art movie, and really underrated.Refn is a genius in my opinion. He can be the new Tarkovsky if he improves his movies a little more.
arda yeşildağ Completely agree. Drive is absolutely his masterpiece, but as a director, his confidence in storytelling and filmmaking techniques are far better than most Hollywood directors these days.
He’s so fucking good too old to die young was amazing as well a lot of people don’t like him for some reason I guess you really have to be a fan of his work to really appreciate it
this song has a bittersweet taste to me. I only loved two women in my life, the first is my beloved girlfriend of 14 years, the other one... nearly drove me crazy, to burnout and depression. Although she was *not* a bad person, she had one hell of a big heart, actually. She enjoyed that song as much as me, so we used to listen it together in my car, when we were students... we met as students, and pretty much by accident. We tried to stay friends, and nothing happened, really, I'm not a bastard with my girlfriend, she is the love of my life. But that peculiar woman was quite beautiful and irresistible - she had as much as big, sweet heart as my girlfriend, and it says, there are not that many sweet womenn in this world - yet I met that one, and it hit me like a bolt of thunder, and nearly screwed my entire life. Merde. Geez. Impossible love, how painful can that be. Can turn people crazy, and carry them to the deep end. Fuck.
This is something like the "In The Air Tonight" scene from Miami Vice mixed with the opening credits of GTA Vice City. This intro is worth the whole movie.
I never had a film story line, scene and the music touch a moment in my life as much as this, makes me think that I'm not the only one experiencing this kind of pain of solitude...
ryan gosling is the definition of cool...if you liked him in drive, would really recommend you seeing him in "The Place Beyond the Pines". the movie is perfection...
Drive is one of my best looking Blu-rays! I don't know why but it's PERFECT picture quality! I have movies that were made after it that don't look as good.
My most memorable moment with this song was listening to it while driving on the 101 Freeway in LA at around 1 o'clock at night with a lady friend of mine at a party. We made out both before and after we hit the freeway, but during the drive I put this song on and gunned it to about 90 while we held hands. Pure bliss.
This is such a summer movie. The various songs in the movie fit so goddamn perfectly to the various scenes. Most underrated movie of all time. It’s top 10 for me easily.
I watch this every night before sleeping. Every time i struggle i think about Ryan Gosling because he is the true way in life, and also literally me. He helps me overcome all of my problems in my life.
I love this scene so much. The song choice is perfect, and it's so retro, and relaxing, and the perfect driving song to drive to at night. I love the cinematography, lighting, editing, and the style and color of the font in the opening titles. I just love Drive.
