A new pedestrian and cycle bridge in Warsaw is now officially open. It connected the two banks of the Vistula River - in Powiśle and Praga.
The structure connects Karowa Street in Powiśle and Okrzei Street in Praga. The new bridge is 452 metres long and in this respect has become one of the longest of its kind in the world.
The width of the lightning-bent structure varies and is 6.9 metres at its narrowest point, and widens to 16.3 metres above the river's current. At the bends, the crossing is much wider so that pedestrians and cyclists can step aside and safely enjoy the views from two rest areas with wooden seating. Lighting is provided by discreet light sources located in the railings. The investment was entirely financed by municipal funds - the cost of the bridge was approximately PLN 120 million.
