Hi! That is so cool!! Wish I'd had the zoom on for you. This was early May 1987 on a visit about 20 years before I moved here. Glad you saw it. Peace to you too.

This sad wanna cry I miss those DayZ Birmingham was the place to be not only alot of stores and restaurants but it was always sum to do people was everywhere people stay at the parks and projects u could be coming from out of town and soon as you get close to Birmingham you could smell the Barbeque a mile away... But now it's like you can tell alot has happened to there over there years alot of important people died off businesses fails families either went down from drugs and seperations and sum moved away .......
@dumont57

I know what you mean. Sad that communities disappear. Everything changes or moves out & away from town to new places. Sometimes things come back, but better. There are some great new places & people here.

The old ladies weren’t wrong. It was even nicer then downtown than now
@sntemp
@sntemp Год назад
That's absolutely not the case. Downtown Birmingham is more vibrant and thriving now than it has been in 50+ years. It's had an amazing transition over the past decade.
@blueaeagle11
@blueaeagle11 Год назад
@@sntemp i literally live here and was out last night. Avondale is not this downtown. I get what you’re saying. But no it’s not vibrant like this. It’s pocketed in different areas and still not as clean as this. Theres literally no shopping whatsoever on this strip like there was back then. You know it’s true
@sntemp
@sntemp Год назад
@@blueaeagle11 no I don’t know it’s true. Downtown in the 80’s wasn’t nice at all. Now we have fine dining and nice restaurants up and down 20th street, 1st and 2nd Ave north. We have a revitalized Lyric theater, a new city walk, 2 brand new stadiums, a big park, lots of brand new mixed use buildings, a lot of buildings that have been converted to nice lofts. Downtown Birmingham in the 80’s was not nearly as nice as it is today.
@blueaeagle11
@blueaeagle11 Год назад
@@sntemp you do though. Sure there’s splashes of some nice new stuff but if you need to go buy something or you want to shop that day you’re going over the mountain and you know that as well. Sorry but your walking park and a couple breweries don’t have what you need. Just entertainment. Also charging ATL prices for Bham apartments is a joke. Back then it had a collection of everything. No need to go over the mountain. There’s still so many vacant stores down the theatre strip it’s sad. Some new things but downtown is still so far away from being “nice”
@sntemp
@sntemp Год назад
@@blueaeagle11 we’ll just have to disagree then b/c I lived just adjacent to Downtown and worked Downtown during this time period and it was a ghost town after 5pm and didn’t have anything close to what it offers now.
