Earlier this month I drove from Johnstone at 4pm on the Monday to arrive in Valencia at 7pm on Wednesday and only saw a traffic jam on the outskirts of Valencia. Stayed in Angouleme on the Tuesday night, avoided the toll roads as far as Angouleme, used the toll roads to cross into Spain and yes the drive through Aragon is very desolate but beautiful, and roasting hot. Driving on French and Spanish roads is so different to the UK, amazing experience. Just the 2400km for me 😂
I have made the same journey over 10 times, usually with a trailer on my master van or Ranger. Manchester to Bordeaux on day 1 then up at 5 am for a 14 hour drive to Gandia. We will do a similar video to yours in our final trip when we move over full time. Nice to see you guys doing the trip.
Did this trip twice in 6 months Yorkshire to Malaga with 4 dogs and a cat 36 hours of driving each way , it’s an adventure I’m glad I undertook

Thumbs up ere' Barry & Karen, reminds me of our journey nearly 5 years ago - best thing we ever done! It's a long drive. Many thanks for sharing your journey - stay safe :)
We're moving to Spain ourselves in October and will drive down from Bilbao to Malaga province as we're ferrying from Rosslare as we currently live in Ireland x
Hello there! Best of luck with your move! How are you getting on with prep work ahead of your move? We are a Wicklow-based EU immigrants couple with 2 kids and we are making our move to Balearics in November. So far, we are finding it little bit hard navigating through all the paperwork requirements when we arrive. Hope it all goes smooth for you. Enjoy!
Lovely video same journey we took in December from Newcastle but down to Almeria and yes it rained all th way till Pamplona. Oh Nowt Wrang with th angel of the North 😉
3xBravos.Thanks for the video. An amazing journey to a promise land. Good luck.in.every way and God bless you. I live in Urb. La Florida, your neighbour.
Hi guys. Great journey 👍🏻 We’ve a home Sucina not far from you on the Mar Minor. We drive that route but it’s the ferry to Dunkirk as I like the break after driving from Manchester. We’ve found good ways of not paying for many tolls lol 😆 Best one being the N10 from Poitiers to Bordeaux. Then Pau over the Pyrenees Somport tunnel. Then Spain 🇪🇸 all the way. 1560 miles from our home in Oldham. Not been fir two years so hope we’ll get there this year!! Take care until the next time cheers Stevie 😎🏴
Made the same trip and route to Playa Flamenca three weeks ago from Fife in a Vauxhell Vivaro van, the wife me and our wee dog. This is our second journey to and from Spain. Expensive way to get here but the dog loves her holidays.
Love that drive down the A23 I believe to Valencia from Zaragoza all free and onwards down to Torrevieja, unlike the expensive tolls and fuel prices going down through France. It'll be a shame when Spain brings in tolls on all major motorways from 2024. Great vlogs you do watch loads of them keeps us up to date whilst stuck here in blighty.
I did this journey with my Mum but we had to drive both ways because I hired the van. Our starting point was just outside Elgin, that was one hell of a marathon!
@@ScottishCoupleInSpain thanks to you for sharing the journey. Out of interest what made you choose the channel tunnel rather than the ferry from the south coast of England? My mate who already lived near Alicante and still does thought I was crazy for not taking the ferry instead of the tunnel.
To be honest we couldn’t get a ferry booked. At the time, end of 2020 they were all fully booked up to 6 months in advance (with a dog) and we just couldn’t get anything. So we took the tunnel and did the drive in 3 days.
Just did Aberdeen to the Lot in France over two days in our Tesla. Very tiring so that additional 1000km down to Spain must be very hard. We did the whole Covid test thing and printed all the declaration forms and nobody wanted to see anything. We even had to prompt the French border agent to check our long term visitor visa.
Epic journey! I felt exhausted just watching. Well done! That Queensferry crossing brought back memories to last year when I broke down outside a Burger King not far from the bridge lol. Great post. Look forward to the next one.
Thank you - it was a long drive, and the majority of the roads were very quiet. We made sure to stop off regularly to stretch our legs (and the dogs!) and top up with coffee... Glad it is all done and dusted! Thanks for watching 😊
@@ScottishCoupleInSpain Thank you !!!! you seem so confident and I hate driving on the right.. I love your vlogs. They make me cry as our place is about a 10 min walk from Habeneras so seeing you in that area chokes me up. Sadly we have a seriously ill family member in hospital so things are awful here.. I have to take my dog when we move there permanently. Im ok on long main roads but towns etc I always get it wrong. I cannot wait to leave this awful place.. its like living in the devil's armpit. Also you're not one of those annoying Brits who think they know it all already. My partner is now watching this as he isnt a YT person. BUt is keen to see the routes etc you took. You seem to know exactly where you are going.. id still be stuck on theM5 ! Thanks for sharing . Sometimes it just takes that someone to post things that make life that little bit better.. you're a lovely couple and who knows, maybe we will bump into each other in Carrefour one day !!! thank you again for cheering me up.. oh and the market you went to is greta, i love it. So many things. We dont have a car over there so limited to what we can buy. Did you buy a car there and sell your van on?so sorry for the questions. Im also following you on Instagram spanish-cornish- life xx
14:17 Saint George, apart from being the patron saint of England, is also the patron saint of two Spanish regions, Catalonia and Aragon, where you circulate, on April 23, St. George's Day(dia de San Jorge),in spanish, is celebrated, it is also the day of the book, since The writer who considers himself the father of Spanish literature, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, died that day, curiously Shakespeare also died, both on April 23, 1616, the parents of Spanish and English literature died at the same time, curious.
Hey , thanks for the video, I'm planning on driving down in next few weeks from Wales to la marina area. I would fly but my TIE card is waiting for me to pick up in Spain and I need it to fly in because of the travel restrictions 🤦🏻♂️, I'm probably doing Portsmouth to Cherbourg as I'm limited in my ferry options and don't want to drive all the way to Folkstone just to have to drive west again when I get to France as I'm thinking of going west of the Pyrenees . Fingers crossed for me lol
Brave couple all that driving good on you two.Wish you all the very best in your new home in Torrevieja.Look in on lamata sometime.Take care and stay safe.👍🤗
We’ve done it loads of times Now we’ve bought a static in brittany and go between Murcia and Brittany taking 2 days It’s still tiring so I know how you feel
Hi Guys,Just a quick question about the van.Have you managed to get it on spanish plates yet as i was thinking of bringing my van over but have been told no right hand drive vans would be allowed on spanish plates as it wouldnt pass the ITV..
Hi. Thanks for watching. Remember this was October last year and many new rules have been introduced since. We didn’t have to show anything at all anywhere throughout the journey. We saw no one and we weren’t stopped anywhere or asked for anything. We were still part of the EU at the time too mind. We literally drove all the way to our house here. Things have changed and I believe covid tests are mandatory for all travel now and there will obviously be passport checks for non EU travellers now too.
Well many move now out of spain including my family due too the politics and lack of money caused by the Corona Virus, as Well as many others are doing the same. But i really hope you guys have a great time in this beautiful country
So many people are struggling, it's such a shame, the UK is in a terrible state also. We wanted out the UK, we love Spain. Thanks for watching and for your well wishes. All the best to you and your family, in these difficult times. We know so many people from the UK are also making the move to Spain before the end of the year, the numbers are huge.
I can imagine road trips being fun somewhere where it is HOT and the roads are WIDER..like Aus or USA But once you’ve driven 20 miles of a UK motorway, I find I just wanna go home😆 There are only so many cows and sheep you can tolerate
I'm going to be going to Murcia by car as I've got two wee dogs if l was to put Murcia Into my euro satnav do you reckon I'd get the best route I'm in Ayr.
Hello guys, love the videos! My family are hoping to make the same move before the new year 🤞 we still feel a bit under prepared and I was wondering if you have an e-mail or any form of contact where maybe we could ask a couple of questions? All the best 👍
Go for it! We’re kind of flying by the seat of our pants with some of it 😂 but no regrets. In the video description there are links to our Facebook pages, feel free to send KJ a message via her page and we’ll try and help. Even if we don’t know the answer we might be able to point you in the right direction 👍🏼😊 thanks for watching.
Hopefully Scotland will return to the EU 🇪🇺,, now that torys messed up my retirement in Spain,, ill have to wait for Scotland to become independent,,, been driving over to Spain for almost 20 yrs,, ohhh bring back memories love the drive. Wish yous well.
How did the uk mess it up? Its the eu that makes the rules not spain or the uk.. if you dont have the money you cnnot move here. The 90/180 rule applies
Hi did you have any grief with the Spanish police when driving to Spain with a uk registered vehicle I'm from ayr and looking like I'll have to drive as we have a wee dog.
None at all, at the time. Never saw any the whole journey. Far tighter restrictions are in place now though so you would need to check the current rules when you do travel.
No, as part of the Brexit withdrawal agreement we just needed to swap them over. We did the Spanish medical test (basic eyesight, and a reaction test which is like playing an 80’s computer game!).
