this is the kind of song that i will over listen for half a month and then become sad about the fact that i burnt it and i dont like it as much as before, then a week later listen to it again and feel nostalgic about that past month
I swear after "it wont be long before an omnivore is soaring over and decides it wants a worm lunch" an ant came crawling over my screen toward the body, I thought I was part of the video 😭 Ants are also omnivores.
I find listening to your songs so rewarding. As you listen more, you recognize more recurring ideas like the missed train, the stolen keys, the swamp rat, or the chores.
wow, their music videos have improved so much, especially when you look back to old ones like artificial sweetner (i love the bananas but the editing now is spot on)
Okay so here’s the order of events from what I’ve got The Worm has an Aunclue (uncle plus aunt) who it looks up to, and is apparently very successful in life. They consider themself better than the worm’s actual parents and take the worm under their wing to help them be as great as them, but the worm isn’t quite as good, despite them putting the work in. Then after having some form of existential crisis, they either metaphorically or literally rip their Aunclue off and then they themselves become so successful they ascend to some form of godhood. Years later, the worm meets their Aunclue who is probably on their death bed. The worm has completely forgotten how it used to look up to them, and… leaves them to die in the middle of a field. I don’t know if there’s a deeper meanings but I feel pretty confident in my explanation
Is it not the worm themselves that die at the end? I think it's the Aunclue who dies first, then followed by the worm (who mentions it won't be long until an omnivore enjoys a "worm lunch). Perhaps it's a cautionary tale about attempting to build your identity around someone else, praising them at first, copying them, scorning them, then death? It kind of reminds me of Syndrome from Incredibles. I think there's a good word for that trope that I forget... Obsessive idolization or something along those lines. I really like Drive45 lyrics because they kinda feel like a riddle sometimes, where the correct answer varies from person to person also makes rewatching more interesting as you have more pieces of the puzzle
"I always knew you were such a worthless worm"; I interpreted the worm as who the narrator sees as worthless, being themselves at the beginning of but the aunclue at the end
Your work is truly underrated. The filters, Distorted saturation and mixed media with 3d models leaves a dream like feeling beautifully capture that obscure low budget cartoon look which i bet takes quite a wile to create. Not to mention the music and lyrics, Quick paced with no repeating rhythm leaving you feeling disoriented. i absolutely love your work and hope you keep doing what you are doing!
God, this fucking rules; it's hard to put into words, but the lyrics here just convey such a specific type of spite and frustration that I can't help but be sucked into it. Also, goes without saying, but that final scene is just excellently off-putting.
I love this song! But i just realized at around 0:37 you can see the box from perfect case and point with the thumbnail from perfect case and point at the thumbnail of this song so maybe there is going to be two other songs that will form a narrative !
I bet the other two songs are gonna be themed around some type of archetype. Perfect case in point has a scientist looking for friends, this song has a cool person becoming upstaged and then murdered(?) by their apprentice, and I can’t possibly predict the next two items in this pattern
assuming that something something lake is the third part then i bet the theme of this series is "trying and failing" pcip: trying to make friends and failing mmmm: trying not to become your parents and failing ssl: trying to leave your hometown and failing
Shoutout to the kids whose parents were clueless and unfit to raise them so Aunt Clue stepped in but then ended up becoming a failed experiment and paled in comparison. Hope they're doing well and not being no good thieves and ripping people off.
I'm just discovering this work, I fucking love it, one of the biggest musical puzzles since the Cardiacs, I'd love to cover this on guitar but I have no idea how to start hahaha, love
I only just Found to ur channel a few days ago, but I haven’t been able to stop listening to this song and rewatching videos like cable clobber cable and muddy martin’s Monday morning marsh mix. Your content gives me brain worms and there is no cure! Truly a wonderful experience :]]
I hate this. I love it so much but I hate that I feel like I'm relating to it so much. Like literally a main problem in my life right now is, as said in the song, I used to bowl right beside someone really close to me and now I've made a mrs. mark max maddy out of myself and I've fallen behind, considering doing what they used to do to hide that I'm not progressing as well as them.
i didnt catch this until now and i'm so glad i finally did, your work just keeps getting better and better, i look forward to every short/music vid, keep up the awesome work!
OOOH YAY!!! this couldnt have come at a better time, i was just realizing i was SUPER into all your other music before this one dropped! this song and its visuals are both phenomenal
OMG you done it again, Great as always ! But I'm wondering : how do you produce your music video ? Do you begin by finding lyrics or an visual idea pop in your head and you build up around it ? Or maybe you start w/ the music ? I'm really curious and I would love to know. Anyway thank you for all your work it's a real inspiration for me !
