Redesigned last year, the G80 midsize luxury sedan was the first Genesis built from the ground up to reflect the company's distinctive new design language, inside and out. The result is a car that oozes class and sophistication and contains the engineering and technological foundation to make it more than just a styling exercise. From its turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines and rear- and all-wheel-drive layouts to its sumptuous interior materials and generous ownership perks, the 2022 Genesis G80 demands consideration.
With that said, the leaders in the midsize luxury sedan remain compelling alternatives. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been perfecting this recipe for decades, while the Genesis brand didn't exist seven years ago.
The redesigned G80 is a solid performer all around. The turbocharged V6, which is what we tested, has plenty of power whether you're hoofing it from a stop or need a squeeze of power on the highway. At our test track, our V6-equipped G80 test vehicle accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. That's a bit slower than six-cylinder German rivals but right on point with the Cadillac CT5 V-Series. Other highlights include smooth and quick transmission shifts and an unobtrusive engine stop-start system.
The G80 3.5T comes standard with an adaptive suspension. (It's otherwise optional on the 2.5T.) Put the car in its Sport mode and the suspension firms up and does a good job of reducing body roll when you drive around turns.

Thank you for the review. I got a 2019 G80 3.3 Turbo AWD six months ago. Crash ratings are all 5.0's. Works well in winter weather, but do not expect it to navigate more than 1.5 feet of snow. Mine is loaded and I love and bought it sight unseen for all the boxes it ticked for me.

I recently rented a 2021 G80 3.5at for my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. This car is a rocket! I believe that the given hp numbers are conservative. I believe the true numbers are close to 400. The car garners attention. It is bank vault quiet with great luxurious fit and finish. Onlookers ask me if it is a Bentley? Mercedes, BMW and others pull alongside of me wanting to race. I will not disclose any further information on the aforementioned statement. There is no perfect car. The only faults the G80 has are: the trunk is rather small, the rear seats don't fold and premium gas mileage isn't great if you frequently use the turbos. And doesn't yet have a legacy. All of the modern safety equipment are standard. I may purchase a used 2021 or 2022 this year.

The most expensive models goes for a little over $70,000. I'm driving the original Genesis sedan. I've had it for nine years now, without a single repair. (I've never had that before). I've been thinking of the new G80, or G90, but then I think Why? I'm perfectly happy with my current one. (garage kept, and looks new) I've never been able to nail down if the new Turbo V6 needs premium gas, or not. Some say yes, and some say no.......Has anyone looked by the fuel filler to see what the required octane requirement is listed there?

Over $70,000 for the top sport. A lot more than I paid for my 4 year old G90.

Why can't Genesis spend a whole dollar ninety five and slap a decent Genesis logo or even a hood ornament on the engine cover. They want to be premium (which I think they are), but as soon as you lift the hood, it looks like a cheap Elantra under there. Geeeeshhh.
