The G80 is a beautiful car I remember watching the first generation Hyundai genesis that came out 14 years ago We test drove one in 2014 there was a leftover 2013 it had a lot of room inside and the seats were like sitting on a couch but the vehicle started to remind to had had the AC not working and the check engine light on so we left and drove the 2007 Acera for three more years when we purchased a 2016 Azera that we had for five years and recently traded that for 2020 to Santa Fe plug-in hybrid I’ve become more and more loyal to the Hyundai group over the last 15 years
Own a G80 2021. Owned a G90. Cons of the G80 1. No wireless Apple car play. Even wired there are issues 2. Gas mileage is not the best and horrific in sports mode. 3. Custom driving mode is gimmicky. 4. Genesis dealerships are in flux and making an appointment is a huge problem.Pros 1. It’s a beautiful car in black. 2. The twin turbo has plenty of power. 3. Window shades. 4. Smooth. 5. Intuitive. No salesman took me through the operations.5. Valet service along with that warranty. I’ll be getting the 2024 plus the GV70. You are getting quality at a discount price. I hope Genesis stays a bit chaotic,because if they get the marketing strategy correct, demand will skyrocket and so will the price. Reminds me of Lexus in the early to mid years.
Great review! Thank you. I bought a 2023 G80 Sport Prestige. Traded in my Audi A6 Prestige for it. I am not disappointed, fabulous vehicle! That warranty and the added features are the icing on the cake! No more German cars for me.
Genesis STILL hasn’t done anything to expand their Genesis dealer network which impacts some of the “perks” like valet pickup for servicing which is supposed to be a free Genesis owner “perk”. I own a 2020 G70 and most Hyundai dealers don’t have enough Genesis cars on hand to provide the courtesy car during service visits that Genesis promises. I like the G70 but suggest you check the dealers near you to make sure they can follow through on all their promises.
You do really good job Lauren, keep it up. On my second Genesis a 2023 G80 2.5t Sport Prestige after I traded in my bullet proof 2022 GV70 3.5t Sport Advanced. The 2023 2.5t Sport Prestige is the result of Genesis listening to you. I saved $10k by going with 2.5t awd Sport Prestige vs the 3.5t and only miss the HUD, but I’m not forced into those hideous waffle five spokes. Love the 245 front staggered 275 rear meats as it really gives you that athletic stance and feel. Good review I think you’re spot on. Oh yeh…32 mpg vs 25.5 on my GV70.😁
It’s amazing to see how far Hyundai Motors has come in less than 40 years. The Mitsubishi based Excel was compared to the Yugo. The G80 compares to MB and BMW.
Great review Lauren! I’ve had 3 Genesis G80’s. I lease and wanted the GV 80 but wasn’t available for several months so leased the Kia Telluride SX Prestige. I’m still wanting the GV 80 and hopefully our local dealer in Buffalo will get the 2023 soon, assuming they have the chips. I see some 2022’s coming in missing the chip for the safety features….really? Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Brembos are just name chasing like buying MB instead of Genesis. These brakes stop this heavier car in a much shorter distance than either the e class or the BMW 5 series

I would prefer that the display would disappear when driving. On my 2019 RS3 I can't make it disappear due to the reversing camera feature. Oh well you can't have everything.
Is the red interior really that shade of red or is it just how it looks through the camera? I’m very interested in that color but on the website it looks more like a deeper, wine shade of red.

Well eventually this will be electric only in a few years. That’s why they’ve downsized their engine sizes & they offer a turbocharged inline-4 (just like many of its competitors come with standard), & the twin-turbo V6 is optional the way that a 6-cylinder engine is available on a 5 series, A6, or E-Class.
Maybe I'm too old school but if I'm buying a luxury vehicle, I want some wooden interior. Carbon fiber is for the Italian sports cars, not for a luxury ride.
@@CarCoachReports Agreed but it does look particularly worse on cars with those huge grills with no other place to mount a front plate but the grill. Unfortunately here in Texas a front plate is required although there is legislation in the the works to make an exception for luxury cars.
