The all-electric Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept gets driven in the wild for the first time! It's production name will be Taycan Cross Turismo. Tom Voelk gets behind the wheel and drives the twisty roads above Malibu, California. This is a very deep dive into what Porsche has coming in 2019 as it readies it’s first all-electric vehicle. Tom is joined by Porsche’s Dr. Stefan Weckbach and Gana Meissner who share their thoughts on the coming electric vehicle.

Hi all, Porsche has just released the production name for the sport sedan version of what we've known as the Mission E project. It will be "Taycan" pronounced "tie-con". Porsche says this- "the name can be roughly translated as “lively young horse,” referencing the imagery at the heart of the Porsche crest" From what was being said when I drove this car, the crossover version will be called Taycan Cross Turismo. No matter what Porsche named it, there would be controversy. Go ahead. Let the comments rip...

Very interesting and clear approach from Porsche. Never have been a fan of fancy, complicated cars, but I'm a fan of companies that are not competitor based, rather they look at their values and brand and find their own way.

That car is gorgeous. Can't wait for the Taycan and the Taycan Cross Turismo to hit the market. I'm a Tesla fan, but it's hard not to drool over something as stunning as this. Kudos to Tesla for inspiring change in the autmotive world with incredbile products, and kudos to Porsche for being that change.

I can't wait to drive my first electric car. I remember how quickly my kid-era, Cox slot cars spooled up and decelerated, with the precise speed management of the hand-held controller. I can only imagine the thrill of acceleration/deceleration in an e-vehicle.

Honestly, I only asked for morning light so I could shoot the car better but it's an interesting distinction. I will so own that rabbit in the headlights look. I just kept thinking "will my insurance policy cover this?". Talking to one of the other writers that drove it, he shared my fear factor. Honored to have the opportunity to have a few hours of major stress (and fun) like this in my life.

The Mission E is definitely more "accessible" than Teslas. Tesla goes out of its way to minimize any user interfaces, except for a giant iPad in the middle of the dash. If Tom is buying, I'll take the Porsche, please.

Amazing video Tom Voelk, I saw it referenced in a current video so I had to hunt this down. I have the Taycan 4S and am amazed at how close this is to the Taycan Cross Tourismo. Very interesting to hear about the fleet of Boxster EVs used internally for testing since 2008/9.

Panamera Sport Turismo. Yes they look similar but the Cross Turismo is a little shorter and curvy.

To me, the blue "I'm electric" trim (as also seen on other makes) always looks to me like protective tape that should've been peeled off before delivery. Just sayin. Jealous I guess.

Can you guys ask about the actual battery cells next time please. As far as i'm aware right now only Tesla and Rimac are you using cylindrical cells, I think the Germans will start out completely with prismatic cells only (they're really just retangular) but it's hard to find information. It seems cylindrical cells lets you get quite a bit more performance due to better thermal properties and you really see that with the advertised specs and in case of the Jaguar I pace actual specs.

Not a fan of fully touchscreen dashboards. Tactile knobs and buttons are important so one does not look elsewhere other than the road.

Nicely done. Which roads in Malibu did you use for this? The Porsche footage looks a lot like the loop around Deer Creek/Pacific View/Cotherin/Yerba Buena/Little Sycamore/Mulholland, and some of yours looks like Latigo Canyon...but it’s hard to tell. Maybe it’s the other way around?

The car is good looking inside and outside. Seems to be good in off-road. The big glass roof is nice, seats look well, interior seems high quality. Range of 500 km sounds good. Need to know consumption in kWh/100 km. Hope it is as efficient as Tesla Model S or Model 3. What about price? It looks much more expensive than Tesla's cars. It does not have autopilot and maximum speed of 200 should increase to 250 km/h to become interesting enough.
