It’s almost a waste of time running it as the City Circle duplicates all but the easternmost most stop. Recently they have been running E class on it which is a total waste of them as the line has so few passengers.
Hi tressteleg. A great Video👍 I am planig to visit Australia in Jan/Feb 2021. We want to be 6 Weeks in Australia and about 3 Weeks in Melbourne. It will be then nearly 40 years (1982) that i left Melbourne. A lot of tram rides are planed to do.
Hi. Melbourne is said to be the largest tramway in the world, probably by mileage rather than tram numbers but nevertheless there are about 500. I know Pittsburgh was big but down to not much when I was first there. Have you seen my video Pittsburg PCC Streetcars 1976...? You may also like US PCCs in the snow and more. No snow here 😊
tressteleg1 Hi again from Pennsylvania. I’m not sure but the number which sticks in my head is that at the peak, Pittsburgh Railways, a private company, run a fleet of about 650 PCCs, all manufactured by St. Louis Car Co. CAS
Just last night I was looking at some old magazines and in 1991, Melbourne‘s fleet was just a little below 650. But if we include closed systems, both are babies compared with Sydney which had 1000 operating at one time in its heyday. The total number of cars ever built was just over double that.
in my opinion, the 12 should run via la trobe st, effectively replacing the 30, and it would provide a service that runs all the way along spencer st, rather than a service that runs part of the length and then turns down another street. I believe this was considered a few years ago along with re-routing some of the swanston st routes along william st
This is still talked about, but what about the St Kilda/South Melbourne residents who don’t want to be dumped in the wasteland which is Latrobe St? William St is another wasteland for most people. Both lots would have to change trams to get to the heart of the city.
@@tressteleg1 the proposal is mainly focused on people who take the tram to work in the city. there are a lot of jobs on william st but only one tram route with comparatively fewer services than the much busier swanston street
@@TheLostProbe Well the workers only use it for an hour or 2 each morning and afternoon. Apart from the Central shopping mall, there really is not much to attract anyone up that end of town. Any such change would be for operational expediency, not customer requirements to any great degree. But once when driving the 12 I forgot to turn into Collin’s St so went to St Vincent’s via Latrobe St, but came back the right way down Collin’s St 😆. No bosses noticed, ha ha.
It should have been at easy video to edit but I had much work to do with the sound. In the end, I was totally fed up with the thing. That’s when mistakes happen.
