Lmao war thunder really just went with the f*cking reality that viewport glass is indestructible While in reality some drunk f*cknut is gonna open fire into one port with his machine gun a kill everyone inside
Volumetric armor just made the game more frustrating and less realistic and all of that just so gaijin could pretend like the game is more realistic. In real life shells can and will squeze threw tight spots such as view ports and turret rings. Meanwhile in their dev stream about volumetric armor, I s*** you not, they showed of volumetric shells by shooting a large caliber AP shell at a IS-4 turret ring. Ofcourse it bounced and they said "ah so the shell gets stuck." And that was the precise moment I lost all hope for gaijin and completely lost it. That is why I still remember this so well. I dont think it even has to be said, but no. The shell does not get stuck. It will squeze threw the gap between the turret and hull, break the turret ring and send shrapnell into the turret.
@@ralph451 my bad it was a T-10M and not a IS-4. Still it makes no f***ing sense. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k7cPolWMfFI.html at 37:20 They shoot at it with its own gun and it is safe to say that in real life the shell would have squished threw the gap between the hull and the turret ring. If a shell gets into a tight spot it does not just stop, it will force itself threw. At those velocitys the armor and shells behave more like a liquid then solid objects when hitting each other.
WTF? When was the last time that a german tank went up in BR? They get favoured so much by gaijin that gaijins german bias is undeniable at this point. M48A2 C is all I have to say but I can bring up many more examples if you want.
That or just barely clipping any port on any tank and the round loosing all of its velocity for some reason. Or the side skirts that seem to like to bounce anything at an angle.
@@K----- Side shot a panther today with APDS from the charioteer Target was around 300ish meters away Literally absorbed all my close to 300mm of pen :(
I SERIOUSLY FUCKING HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS WITH A 76MM SHERMAN... LIKE WHAT THE FUCK!? IT SHOULD STILL PEN THE ADDITIONAL LAYER OF ARMOR THE VIEW PORT ADDS TO THE 100 MM PLATE
I love that they even lied about fixing this in one of the "it's fixed" articles. Most of what they say in those articles has been equally untrue as well.
This happened to me a couple days ago, I was in the Arl-44 TD version going down a road in Sweden. Right around the corner in the middle of the street is a tiger. I panicked and since I didn't have a stabilizer my shot when right into the view port.
@@cc-bk3tx i play the ARL all the time. 212 mm of pen and you cant even get through the front plate of a panther and the tigers turret is like a 50/50 it seems
hey dont forget even if you did pen him with your gun that takes 5 seconds to get on target, you wouldnt kill him because 90mm with no filler= 37mm w/ filler
@@tyleresker3306 idk about you but the Tiger View port is about 200mm thick last time I checked. about 100mm for the view port, and another 100 mm behind it. Roughly.
Is the armor still modeled in a way that a shell has a diameter and specific penetration value. All armor parts that get caught inside the shell radius are summed together and if the value is bigger than penetration value, it does not penetrate at all. e.g. shell hitting a seam between two 100mm plates means that it has to penetrate 100 + 100 mm armor.
@@bassmentdwellah1369 This doesnt just happen on the Tigers. It happens on all vehicles. Gunner Optics, Mgs, Driver ports, View ports on cupolas. etc. etc. Basically any nub eats up shells. This was a problem already in game pre volumetric, it just that when volumetric got introduced the problem got 100x worse. Ever seen an HSTVL eat every round at top tier because of its view ports being everywhere on the tank? Its hilarious
having only damaged the viewports/external accessories due to wonky mechanics, is one of the very reasons why i stopped playing warthunder within 4 months, and only getting the all major nation's tanks to like 3.0 or so.
@@carlblack8574 because of the volumetric shell you can still do it. Shells are calculated with their actuall size instead of a point with energy. thats why you can pen the glass with small shells. The bullshittery is that the bigger shells just "explode" instead of deforming, thus being not able to pen it.
The only way angling can actually help a Tiger: with the driver hatch protruding of few centimetres, angling can give you some more square centimetres of protected surface, so your 0,02% of protected surface will increase to 0,025%. Ladies and gentlemen, angle your tiger, you can't miss that magical 0,005%
Guys the tiger 1 is not op I swear Today I only killed 13 tanks do you know why? A GODDAMN JUMBO RESISTED MY GLORIOUS 88mm And I raged quit Gaijin pls buff tiger 1 88mm to have 1000mm pen and lower its br to 1.0 And remove the jumbo from the game If you do that I will cerate a new account and buy the gr1 and ka50 and f5c *again* (sarcastic)
Welp, youve seen it here 1st folks. It takes a 183mm 🅱️ESH round to get through... 103mm of armour. Notice also how this is an OPEN drivers port, something that coule be shot through by 7.62.
Funfact: a long time ago before volumetric I actually shot through the front armor of a tiger and took out the gunner. It was listed in the crew killed list and xray. The tiger then shot me killing me immediately after I took out his gunner
The problem with the German tree... they sit in a BR where most of the Tanks were build after 1944... Tiger I was already pretty much outdated by that point... imagine being in a H1 (1942) and coming across a Super Pershing (1945)... 3 years is a huge time jump in Tank development during War
Tiger H1 is 5.3 and Super Pershing is 6.7 idk what you’re talking about.Tiger I faces Shermans and T-34s mostly which it can easily destroy frontally from 2,000m away.Only at full uptiers it may face Pershings. And imo Tiger II(H) sits at same BR as T26E1-1 and it’s objectively a better tank.
Do note that the US military used to specifically target the drivers port because it is the weakest part of a tiger frontally. But no. Invincible drivers port.
Now try russian ones. Good luck wont happen the tigers driverport has at least more armor shown in the armor analysis. The Russian driver ports/ hatches just add 200mm bias after spawning in
not long ago, i shot a Tiger H1 from the driver's hatch at a very angled position, and it penetrated and killed all the crews, i was using IS-1 that time
