This was so helpful. We've had ours 2 weeks and the Automatic is so different but figuring it out. And having the cruise set with the Jake sure was nice taking a load of explosives down the mountain under total control. Never had to hit my service brake once!

I’ve driven this Detroit set up and it’s the best GD setup you could ask for no lag what so ever power is amazing. I would throw my Manuel In the garbage for this
I have this transmission in my 2018 Cascadia and can tell you that if I were to do it all over again I would definitely go with the Eaton. It takes too long to shift, and the air actuated shifting sound is really annoying.
How does this work in ice and snow in negative temps? I wonder why they don’t use these in Alaska’s roads or Northern canda. Seems great for LA traffic or New York City. But I see these guys with automatics have all kinds of issues in the snow and ice in Wyoming. Throw super single tires and they usually just park in bad weather.
It's NOT necessary. If the companies cannot find REAL drivers... they simply need to PAY drivers more and there wouldn't BE a driver shortage. Auto trans are putting MORONS on the roads!!
The creep mode needs more torque. Its okay in flat surface but when you hit a tiny bump it stops because it doesnt have enough torque to move the truck. Eaton endurant creep mode gots tons fo torque.
For all the Auto haters in here. Automatics are getting hard to compete with these days. First it happened in passenger vehicles and Its happening with big trucks too. Autos are more efficient than a human will ever be with less effort to the operator. Also human error gets taken out of the equation. Heck even race cars are faster as automatics. Way of the future. I'm also going to add my truck is an 18 speed manual and that's all I've ever driven. All the billy big rigs need to get with the times.
You expect these truck driving school graduates that can't even shift a manual transmission to be able to master this oh my God I can see a whole lot of wrecks involved in the near future with this
I understand your position but also, I could have focused more on driving, turns, backing, checking mirrors more etc. Instead I was contsntly concerned about missing a down shift. I agree it makes it easier for some to pass that'll never get it.
No it’s not the automatics it’s the 2 week cdl “schools”. The automatic trans trucks stop faster, get better fuel economy etc. I banged gears for 13 yrs, spent 3 in an auto and love it. Sure it don’t feel as cool but hill descent is fucking awesome. The real problem is companies disable manual mode which in winter or rain is a problem.
Whats about an active brake assist? Whats about adaptive cruise control? Whats about eco-roll? Does Western Star knows the ppc? And at least whats about a re- or intarder instaed of having an engine brake?
@Jason It says on the truck 5700xe it sure doesn't look like the others and a bit smaller if you ask me. Can you please tell me why this happens to be the case?
Screw this. I hate these. Boss bought some of us high performing drivers new trucks with these transmissions. I had mine for about 2 weeks. Hated it severely. I pretty much demanded my old 18 speed manual kenny back and threatened to quit otherwise. I got my manual back that's for sure. I work alot of times in the oilfield and offroad. Also if you cant control a truck on a grade without a automatic. You suck as a driver lol

I like these features, but I do them all in a different way in a regular manual truck. Why did we fix something that's not broken? Did we just make it easier for dumb people to drive trucks?
90% of trucks in Europe are automatics, it's the future, get used to it old man, and driving a auto doesn't mean your bad driver, if anything it makes you better cause you pay more attention to your surroundings
Well, it dang sure takes less skill to drive an automatic. And no, this old man doesn't have to get used to it. I drive what I want to. I pay more than enough attention to my surroundings. You see, I can shift gears, split gears, and change the range without taking my eyes and my attention off of the road. This automatic is fine for steering wheel holders. Who gives a crap what Europeans drive?
