The weird noise at 7:05 is just the air conditioning compressor engaging. The freon makes hissing noises while it’s flowing through the air conditioning system.

7:15 my hypothesis on the hissing noise is that it’s the air blower part of the sensor cleaning system. Forgot where, but I think they have both compressed air and windshield fluid.

I've watched a couple of shot Tesla drives, and that car can be set for different levels of aggression, with interesting results. Waymo is aggressive enough for me.

Nice video! I hope you can be one of the first passengers on a Waymo using the highway. It seems like such a difficult challenge for Waymo though, since the higher speeds increase risk so much. I wonder how it will merge onto a very busy highway with slow traffic where people are not courteous to let cars merge in front of them. But I trust that when Waymo starts public highway driving, it will be safe.
@charliedoyle7824
@charliedoyle7824 2 месяца назад
Yeah, busy metro-area highway merging is probably the ultimate difficulty level for robocars, and also what I find the most stressful as a driver. It looks like Waymo and regulators think they've solved it though, as they now have a license by the CA DMV and CPUC robotaxi license to drive freeways in Bay Area and L.A., and are doing driverless testing rides in Phoenix. We'll see how safe they are over tens of millions of miles.

I'm only half way through the video, but; remember, you are the original Waymo RU-vidr. Kevin is good, and you are name dropping him occasionally, but you are amazing at making these videos. 2nd thought, I was going to ask you if you saw AI driver's most recent video posted on March 16. Tesla seems to be improving significantly, coming close to the performance of Waymo. As you know, I drive a Tesla and I'm currently on version 11. I can't wait to experience version 12, hopefully soon, but who knows. I feel like I'm in a dream sometimes with self driving and EV technology evolving rapidly before my eyes!

Thank you!! Kevin and I are buddies now, also his videos get like way more views than mine. I'm the old fart :P Keeping an eye on FSD in the background 👀
@charliedoyle7824
@charliedoyle7824 2 месяца назад
FSD V12 is not "coming close to the performance of Waymo". V12 is looking good for sure, but Waymo now has ten million continuous driverless urban robotaxi miles with no serious accidents. V12 has no driverless miles, and no public data at all, only anecdotal fanboy videos of fifteen minute drives, usually in light traffic. When V12 can go on average 100 miles continuously on random drives in San Fran or L.A. or any other big city center with no safety interventions and no accelerator presses (in true driverless mode), it will then be starting to approach a real autonomous vehicle. It will need to be doing millions of safe miles in driverless mode to pull the driver and get a license, allowing you to sit in the back seat.

I'm thinking they'll serve the entire Phoenix metro area within two years. Highways are the key, which they'll probably open to the public this year.

@@JJRicks Do you think they'll hit a snag somehow in Phoenix? It seems with their big new approved areas in CA, which includes highways, that they have convinced themselves and regulators that they're good to go on highways and new streets. With highways, Phoenix is pretty much figured out, wouldn't you say?
@JJRicks
@JJRicks 2 месяца назад
@@charliedoyle7824 Logically, yes. But I've been waiting 5 years for an eastward expansion and they keep going northwest. I can't hope for anything anymore. It seems like the railroad tracks are impassable (watch Dear Waymo for more details if you haven't already haha)

Do we know if there is any Vehicle to Vehicle communications between Waymo vehicles yet? I was expecting some sort of indication that a car in front is another Waymo on the map, bud didn't see that. Not saying that means there is no V2V comms being used for other things, just curious.

Why did they stop using the pacifica's? This one is fine but the pacifica had a lot nore space for a waymo ride. They might have had a partnership and it ended.

A homeless guy in L.A. jumped in recently as a passenger got out, and sat in the driver seat to try and drive away. It didn't go so well for him. The car wouldn't go anywhere of course, and customer service got on the intercom and got the cops there quickly. Waymos are probably impossible to hijack, unless maybe the hijacker is a Waymo engineer with login access. They are vulnerable to possible gang violence though, because they don't speed away when threatened, they just sit there.

@@charliedoyle7824 hopefully they add an option to fucking speed off just in case gang members try to do anything with the customer..
