Drivers in Seattle, home to 27th-worst traffic in world, waste 58 hours a year on roads

New data confirms what Seattle area drivers already knew: commuting in the Puget Sound region can be a huge time-suck-and it’s worse now than a year ago.
The Seattle metro area ranks 27th in the world - yes, in the world - for having terrible traffic congestion, according to a new report from INRIX. Seattle ranks No. 10 amongst U.S. cities in the new analysis of global traffic patterns in 2023.
The average Seattle driver lost 58 hours sitting in traffic in 2023, according to INRIX. That’s much more than the national average of 42 hours.
It's also quite an increase from 2022 in the Seattle area, when drivers lost 46 hours, meaning an extra 1.5 work days sitting in the car.

I will say though that traffic isn’t as bad as la and Orange County traffic? Wasting 58 hours per year would be a dream. I waste 58 hours a day getting to and from work down here

Only state I know of that intentionally makes all its roads and highways a disaster. Capacity is downsized when the usage is up. Millions spent lining pockets instead of on the roads.

I lived 24 (very depressing, LONG) years in Seattle before coming to my senses, and moving to the sunshine. The WORST part of driving around Washington (anywhere) were drivers CAMPING in the left, fast lane on the freeways, forcing you to pass dangerously on the right, and people just SITTING at red lights and not turning a free right on red (obviously where it’s allowed)…..they just SIT with their turn signal on. ……if people understood how to drive (some, but MANY people!) up there, it would help the traffic. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔👎🏻

Lol, HOW TO SLOW DOWN TRAFFIC and irritate automobile drivers. 1. Reduce Lane Width. 2. Construction. Build an UNWANTED "Light" Rail Train connecting all cities - 15 minute city. No one wants the community transit. 3. Interrupt highways with ROUND-A-BOUTS 😂

And I guess millions of other people LIKE ME, that DID NOT WANT THE LIGHT RAIL and voted to make tgat very declaration - as indicated in multiple ballots doesnt exist either. This must be similar to the $30 regisyration tags that We The People Voted for BUT didnt get. Hmmm.

The traffic does not have to be this bad. It is bad because urbanist activists have ruined the roads with their “road diets” and war on cars. The intentional reduction of driving lanes, speed limits, useless bike lanes, elimination for parking, etc has made traffic worse. The unnecessary increase in density has also attracted additional population that this area did not need. In the end it has just reduced the quality of life to what every other garbage city has.

Study after study has shown increasing lanes only increases traffic from the effect of people choosing to drive in from further away. I’m afraid to say your problem is systemic and comes from poorly designed city streets and zero thought given to building a reliable public transit system.

@@eriks8382 you mean study after study by anti- car activists? Come on why are we even talking about this. More lanes means more throughput There is a limited number of drivers. If people take more trips, then keep building more lanes. It just means you have not built enough.

@@Prxyshj We're spending 8 billion dollars in san diego to move an amtrak train half a mile away from it's original location. In what universe is adding MORE lanes somewhere there is actually no space economically feasible? Orange County, CA, already has problems with caltrans leaders using public funds to build TOLL ROADS. Nimby's will block you ever step of the way. This isn't china where individual rights arent honored.
